If Franzem retires he doesn't get paid. If he sits on IR he does. It's to his advantage to not retire.

I see this working a well as an unsinkable ship and the best dirigible ever.

Jim Devellano on Mantha's play: "Very disappointing"
DickieDunn replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I've said before that his biggest issue was and will be adjusting from playing 2+ minute shifts picking his spots to playing hard for 30-35 seconds at a time. Too many junior coaches think it's still the 1960's where top players didn't skate hard all the time. -
Nope, the penalty goes to the team that benefits from having the cap hit lower than his salary.

Remaing RFAs to be signed - Jurco, Pulkkinen, Aubry
DickieDunn replied to e_prime's topic in General
No, they wouldn't. Either the defense would have shut down the shot or the goalie would have made an easy save because he was in better position. those players are 3rd line wingers. some people expect/want him playing 18+ minutes a night on the top line where he'd be abused by Stamkos, Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin et. al. -
signed Pulkkinen re-signs.... 1 year deal

that's the most disturbing thing I've seen since the last time I had sex with my ex-wife -

Nobody is saying he won't, some of are saying it's not a guarantee. I've seen a lot of guys who blow up the minors and are horrible at the top level. -
signed Pulkkinen re-signs.... 1 year deal
DickieDunn replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
There is nothing wrong with that, but some people are acting like he's some kind of goal scoring God who will score 40+ a year and anyone who disagrees is a hater. -
Because the NHL is retroactively punishing teams for front loaded contracts with low salary years at the end which were perfectly legal when they were signed, if a player with that type of deal retires then any team that paid more in salary than the cap hit has a penalty added onto the remaining years of that contract. If Franzen retires, the Wings have around $3 million in penalties each year that run through the 19-20 season.

Let me know when he figures out how to do that in the NHL on a relatively consistent basis -
signed Pulkkinen re-signs.... 1 year deal

Pulkkinen is a slapshot. That's what makes him so one dimensional. Yes, he does work hard, but because of his size and skating, he's not effective. He didn't find open ice to get his shot off. He didn't effectively use his line mates. Despite his effort, he didn't look like he really knew what he was doing in his own end, hard work =/= good work. As far as the comparisons to other players, Tatar and Nyquist both skated far better and looked like they were trying to make plays happen their first 30-40 games, Pulkkinen looked like he was just waiting for the puck. Brett Hull spent a lot of time waiting to uncork a slapper too, but he moved around trying to find an open spot, Pulkkinen hasn't so far in his NHL time. IF he makes some adjustments, he can be an effective NHL player, but I don't see him as ever being more than a complimentary player and PP specialist who needs linemates who make things happen. I'd far rather have guys who look to make things happen than let things come to them. -

Obviously you're a hater because you don't think that he's going to score 30 goals this year like the real fans. -

Stats don't tell the whole story. Tatar and Nyquist can drive the play. Pulkkinen doesn't. -

Nyquist and Tatar both showed a lot more than Pulkkinen did in the NHL. Both are far superior skaters and worked to get open more than Pulkkinen did. In the AHL. In the NHL he was slow and didn't look like he had any clue about how to find open ice. The AHL players are slower and give guys more room, and the goalies leave more of the net open. Lots of guys score a ton in the minors but can't hack it in the NHL. -

It's not turning on him, it's looking at a player without rose colored glasses. He doesn't have good speed, couldn't get open, and looked completely one dimensional. -

If he s***s the bed at camp he may very well clear. His future is up to him, prove he's more than a slapper, or he won't be an NHL player -

What makes you say that? Both have plenty of time to sign a deal, and neither have any leverage to get much of a contract. -
Yeah, they lost out on a lot of guys they wanted, but back then the third or fourth option was still good. Now the fourth option is a #4 d-man or a forward you hope scores 20 goals

Per capgeek: Any performance bonuses actually earned at season’s end (ie. for games played, awards, all-star teams, etc.) are then added to the team’s final cap payroll. The catch with the cushion is that if the bonuses earned at year’s end push the team past the upper limit, the overage is carried over as a penalty the following season. http://capgeek.org/nhl-salary-cap-faq-how-do-performance-bonuses-count-against-the-cap/ Cleary's bonus last year didn't push them over the cap, therefore his bonus will not carry over.
-
The bonus only rolls over if it will put the team over the cap for that season. Cleary's bonus did not put them over the cap so it went on last year's cap.
-
As long as they structure it so only $925k is guaranteed and anything else is bonuses for something he likely won't do, I really don't care.

Anyone worrying about losing a guy like Andersson, Ferraro, or Callahan on waivers should find more important things to worry about. They're all dime a dozen players. -
BM and Superman had a fight once, the loser had to start wearing his underwear on the outside of their pants. He made Hello Kitty say goodbye They once made BM toilet paper, but it failed because it wouldn't take crap from anybody
-
If anyone is in trouble it's Andersson. Coaches tend to stick with guys they know
