Blashill says struggling Wings must "Trust The Process."
DickieDunn replied to kjw25's topic in General
Trade Howard, Mrazek continues to crap the bed, he leaves, and next year the goalies are a mediocre free agent and a scrub like Coreau. Sounds like a great way to get another high pick for 2019. Git-r-done Kenny! -
The only players I want brought in are guys just entering their prime through trade, or legit high end players who are 27 or 28 through free agency. I have no interest in guys 30+, or middle of the road player. Detroit has enough 2nd pair d-men. Carlson is #4 in defense scoring, plays over 26 minutes a game, plays in all situations. He's a #1. IF he makes it to free agency, and IF he wants to come to Detroit, both of which I think are unlikely, they should take him, provided they don't have to give him a stupid amount of money. 7x7 would be good.

More process, and don't mess with the Swedish Mafia.

Howard's cap hit is 15th in the NHL. He's paid exactly like an average starting goalie. Yep, I've long been a fan of trading prospects for proven players either in or just entering their prime. You don't trade them all, but some of them. What could they have gotten for Nyquist and Sproul in a package a few years ago? People are too afraid that the kid that gets traded will turn into a monster when it's more likely they turn into a middle of the road player. -

What has he done in the last 2 years to show he's a #1 caliber goalie? Or do you mean in the AHL or KHL? The guy has been bad longer than he was good. -

He wasn't coddled. He was given chances. So was Mrazek. Mrazek blew his. Yes, Howard was given starts. Do you think that Mrazek was going to play 82 games? -
I agree that they should be going with a full blown youth movement. I've said that for a couple years now. Over-ripe doesn't work unless you have actual talent ahead of the kids and are winning. I disagree that Mrazek should be playing just because. He's a headcase, and another in a long line of NHL goalies who flamed out after a hot start.

All the playing time in the world isn't going to fix Mrazek. Either he's too stubborn/unable to fix the holes in his game and/or his psyche is too fragile to handle being an NHL player.

There's at least one poster who thinks that it's just bias against Mrazek, and Mrazek would start playing like he did the first part of his career if he was just allowed to start 17 of the next 20 games. -
Unless ownership is telling him to keep pushing.

Actually what I'm expecting is Holland not trading him because "what if Howard gets hurt (like he does most years), having to use a guy currently in GR will hurt the playoff chances."
-
They can only retain half the salary. I also doubt that any team will give up a second for a guy who hasn't been good for almost 2 full calendar years, unless maybe they have multiple picks and feel that they can burn one. I'll be impressed if they get a 3rd rounder for him. I'm expecting a 5th, if they find a taker at all.

I think it has more to do with the fact that they're trying to win games and Howard gives them a much better chance. -
Fixed that. He lost his starting job because he played bad, not because Blashill doesn't like him or there's some secret anti-Eastern European conspiracy or something. The fact that he was the #1 goalie for awhile and was given a contract matching that position is irrelevant. You don't play a player because of his contract, unless you're not committed to winning (or at least making it look like you're committed) if that player is crapping the bed on a regular basis. If his poor play is the result of his sulking, then he has no business being in the NHL anyway, and if he thinks that some other team is going to hand him a #1 job after his play going back almost 2 full years, he's insane. His only 2 options going forward are accept a backup job and try to beat out the #1 goalie for his new team or go running back to Europe.

Mrazek has consistently been a dumpster fire since February 2015. Why in the world they start giving him the bulk of the starts just because he's younger and MIGHT suddenly start playing better? Unless they want to go full tank, that is. Playing him most of the time the rest of the year sounds like a great way to get a top 3 pick. If his psyche is so fragile that he can't handle competition or losing his job when he's consistently outplayed, he has no business being an NHL player. I don't see any way he comes back to the team next year. They're not going to qualify him unless Holland goes full bat crap insane, and I don't see him taking a big pay cut to stay in Detroit. At this point if they can get even a 6th rounder for him, I think they need to move him. -
Somehow they're still 5th in the division. I guess that's one "advantage" of being in the worst division in your league. Every team in the Metro division is better than they are. Only Edmonton and Arizona are worse in the west. Only Buffalo and Arizona are significantly behind them. At this point the only chance at the playoffs is jumping Montreal and Boston while holding off Florida and Ottawa. Being 3rd worst in the NHL and guaranteeing a pick in the top 6 is easily within reach. A couple weeks ago I said they could easily go 3-8 over the 11 game stretch coming up. Looks like I was overly optimistic.

Quotes from a garbage article on a garbage site. When legit media reports this I'll believe it.

Mrazek has played like garbage since his hot start to his career. He's far from the first goalie to have that happen. Once shooters get an idea of where a guy is weak, unless the goalie can work on that weakness, he's toast. Mrazek hasn't adjusted. Retaining salary only affects this year. Unless you think they're going to actually make a trade that will bring in a high end young player where they're going to need cap room, and I doubt it will happen, it's going to be irrelevant. If they decided they're going to let him walk away next summer, getting something, even a 3rd or 4th round pick, for him is better than nothing.

His process is work harder not smarter. All the forwards collapse into the middle in the D zone, which means there are no outlet passes for the D when they get the puck, which leads to turnovers because they have to either wait too long or hurry a pass, and a bad transition game when the pass does connect. Bad line management, terrible special teams, and a roster that looks increasingly like they don't have much hope of winning on a game to game basis. If the goal is to try and make the playoffs, he needs to be fired today, because every game puts them further out. If the goal is to get the best possible shot at the #1 pick, he needs to double down on everything he's doing. BTW, am I still a hater for saying this? I was last year. -
Karlsson is a lot better than OEL. Hopping to get the #1 overall pick and draft Dahlin is a weak strategy even if Holland was willing to go full out tank job, which he isn't. Teams don't trade top prospects like Bean and Fabbro unless they get something of immediate value in return, something Detroit is severely lacking. Nyquist, Tatar, Dekeyser, or anyone else they might trade (assuming Holland would even make a trade like that) won't bring one of those guys. Don't count on getting a first for Green, assuming Holland sells at the deadline
-
I wouldn't trade both Larkin and Mantha for him unless that's all it took. Then I'd at least consider it. one of them plus Rasmussen and Cholowski? In a second.
