Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Ekman-Larson. For Yandle I'd move a roster D other than Kronwall and a prospect, which one depending on which d was moved. Preferable something like Smith Pulkinnen and a 2nd rounder.

Petry would be a 3rd pairing D here, and there's no room for him going forward. Kronwall, Dekeyser, Smith, Ericsson, and Quincey, plus a rookie next year. The following year Quincey goes and another rookie comes in.

Marchenko recalled from GR... Ouellet sent down

Kronwall scores well over 40 points a year and is on pace to do so again, but he's not good offensively and his offense has dried up because he hasn't scored a ton the last week or two, because nobody goes through stretches like that. Gotcha.

I'd do that plus another prospect or two with zero hesitation. Myers is going to cost too much fro the risk he brings unless the Sabres come down on their asking price quite a bit. Since there's no real reason to trade him unless he brings a ton back, they have no reason to do that. Some desperate GM will make a stupid deal to get him though.

Marchenko might end up as a decent second pairing guy, but it's more likely that he ends up as a 3rd pair guy.

Nyquist or Tatar, Smith or Dekeyser. Where did I say both wingers or both D? A top defense man is worth far more than a top winger and Detroit has a ton of prospects, more than they have room for.

Nobody is advocating trading prospects for a 30-something pending free agent. I fail to see how picking up a guy who hasn't hit his 25th birthday hurts the future of the team.
  8. People on here are full of s*** when it comes to trades. "Holland has no balls, he's a failure when it comes to trading!" "Ekman-Larson is available, but now way should they give up their good young players to get him, because POTENTIAL."

The Wings are 1 point out of first in their division with a game in hand on TB. Depending on the D brought in, I think one player absolutely puts them in the upper echelon of the league as long as they don't give up a bunch of roster players to do it. It's funny though, people bash Holland for not having balls to make a trade, but then whenever someone suggests trading anyone decent to bring in a good player like Ekman-Larson or whoever, they panic and say no way, because FUTURE!

Marchenko recalled from GR... Ouellet sent down

The odds of the prospects all hitting their top potential is slim, and Mantha doesn't play a power game anyway. He's a lot more Franzen than Shanahan. A legit #1 defenseman is one of the hardest positions in the NHL to find, and if you can get one in a trade when he's only 23 years old, you do what it takes to get it done. If Tatar or Nyquist are traded, they can flip Dekeyser or Smith for a winger to take his spot. For that matter, they can make a bigger deal with the Coyotes and bring in Vermette as well.

The only reason to trade OEL is of they got several pieces for their rebuild. If I was the Wings GM I'd tell them Kronwall, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Howard are off the table. Pick any roster player and a prospect or two plus a pick for him. Tatar Mantha and Ouellet for a 23 year old top pair D? Yes please. Doan really is their Yzerman as sad as that is.

    Franzen on IR

I didn't necessarily just mean lost on waivers, but I see your point. Quincey had a s*** camp the year he was cut, too.
  13. DickieDunn

    Franzen on IR

Nobody would take Franzen in a trade. If they try to waive him to GR, he'll retire and the Wings will be screwed. If they waive him and release him, the cap penalty screws them. The only real option is keep him and hope he either stays healthy, or sits on IR for the duration of his contract. Pulkinnen or Jurco won't be waived. If someone gets waived, it would be Andersson. The Wings don't let players go if they're going to be good, the guys they have lost on waivers have done virtually nothing. Knuble was the last good player the Wings let go because they didn't have room for a young guy, and that was more because Bowman wanted vets than anything to do with Holland.

Except with hockey prospects the money may or may not double on any given day. Take that option and you might end up with $50k instead.

    Larkin or Mantha?

I'm not sure who would be available, but Seguin wasn't available until he was moved, so you never know. Someone like Tavares gets fed up with playing for a loser, demands a trade and wants to go to Detroit. I'd trade Larkin or Mantha, Pulkinnen, and a D prospect to get that deal done without thinking twice.
  16. DickieDunn

    Larkin or Mantha?

Depends on what you mean by quick fix. 32 year old? Nope. top end guy just entering his prime years wanting out of a losing organization? Hell yes.
  17. DickieDunn

    Larkin or Mantha?

It's more that mid first round picks don't always turn out. Lapointe was the highest pick in the last 2 and a half decades and was a third line caliber player.
  18. DickieDunn

    Larkin or Mantha?

That bolded part is exactly why they should be traded for the right deal, and I'm not just talking about something that is out of the realm of reason to expect. Something else would give first. At worst, Jensen would probably be the odd man out.
  19. DickieDunn

    Larkin or Mantha?

Tatar is plenty tough. You mean they don't fight. Other people answered the rest about their playing styles.
  20. DickieDunn

    Larkin or Mantha?

I'd trade Mantha first. I have a feeling he's going to be Franzen like, and Larkin has impressed the hell our of me. Tatar and Nyquist aren't similar players, other than their size.

    Give Patrick Hersley a shot?

The problem is, they don't want to be "servicable" players in the NHL. They're used to being high end players in the European leagues, and when they get here and end up playing in the bottom half of the roster, they can't adjust. A very few people come in and are more than that, but the few examples are North American born guys whose main goal is to play in the NHL. Europeans want to play hockey, and the ones who don't come to the NHL at an early age are the ones who'd rather be top players in Europe than role players in the NHL. St. Louis never played in Europe. He spent 3 years in the minors here. Rafalski wasn't given a shot because of his size. Hasek's was stuck behind Belfour until he was traded to Buffalo. None of those guys are the same situation as Hersley.
  22. DickieDunn

    Give Patrick Hersley a shot?

He's still young and is probably focusing on learning to play defense instead of just scoring. His points are fine for an young D anyway.
  23. DickieDunn

    Give Patrick Hersley a shot?

Are you really suggesting that Sproul is a bust after a year and a half in the AHL? That's what it sounds like.
  24. DickieDunn

LA puts Mike Richards on waivers

He could certainly teach them how to hold their liquor
  25. When they also have Sproul, Marchenko, and Jensen, I'd be surprised if Ouellet is kept down for a guy who'd likely end up on the 3rd pairing.
