Signed Dekeyser signed. 2 yrs $2.187 million AAV
DickieDunn replied to FireCaptain's topic in General
DD is an undrafted player with less than a full season's worth of games played who has limited offensive upside and still has work to do defensively and getting stronger. Those aren't the guys you sign to 6 year $30 mil contracts. -

Unless of course Mrazek is the next Blaine Lacher Jim Carey (not the actor) or Andrew Raycroft. -
Leino is the type of gut who only wants to score. That doesn't work in the NHL.

Who should get cut/traded by game 1 of the season?
DickieDunn replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Cleary should never have gotten more than a tryout, but now he's going to play at least 10 games to get his bonus. I'd like to see Kindl moved out for a rookie. Miller is pretty good for a 4th liner so he should stay. Jurco showed enough last year that a roster spot should be his to lose. -

Lashoff is pretty solid for a 7 and still has some room to grow. I'm done with Kindl though. -

Kindl's issue is he's so inconsistent. My brother went to a lot of GR games his last year there and he said Kindl never looked like he belonged in the AHL. He always looked like he should have been in the ECHL or the NHL and nothing in between. That doesn't work at the top level. -

RFA players get less. Dekeyser isn't the #1 young D Dekeyser isn't a Norris candidate who will make or break the season. Quincey is not overpaid by much if at all based on the UFA market. Signing Quincey was not panic or knee jerk. -
Signed Wings re-sign Cleary $1.5 mill + $1mill in game bonuses

They should both be kicked in the nuts for it. The team could have given Danny Boy a nice cushy job as VP of Cheerleading or something else and paid him without taking up a roster spot and cap space. The guy's knees are shot, he needs to get over it and retire. -

Dekeyser won't ever put up the points to be a #1. -
Cleary was a former high draft pick who almost washed out because he was immature. Diaz is getting tryout offers because he has questionable ability. Apples and oranges.

Sending a player to the minors can save a max of $925k.

If they can't find a taker for Kindl, make him the #7 and waive Lashoff.

Quincey isn't the issue for cap space anyway, Cleary is. After he gets his 10 games in, and you know he will, they'll be having a guy who shouldn't be in the NHL taking up $2.5 mil in cap space. Quincey might be overpaid for what he brings, although the market dictated that was the going rate, but at least he's going to be a regular. -
If it was the same injury both years I'd be more worried. Sports hernias can linger for a long time, once they figured out that's what he actually had, it wasn't really surprising that he missed the rest of the season. Everything I've seen says that he's completely healed now and should be good to go. As long as he doesn't try to hide another injury, he should be fine.

Usually the lineups ate half guys who have spots and half prospects

Mule Weiss and Alfredsson never had a chance to develop any chemistry. Weiss was hurting from the get go, and the line was barely together in the preseason because one of them missed just about every game.

I wouldn't give Dekeyser a long term deal. If he doesn't improve he won't be worth that. 2 or 3 years ant $4 mil -
The only year in Detroit Filppula scored more than 40 points was the year he spent most of his time on Zetterberg's wing. Sheahan is a natural center. Glendening was a winger until last year when he started working at center to try and increase his value. I don't see why anyone can argue that he'd be better than either Sheahan or Helm.
-
Not when Datsyuk was healthy. A 4th line with Helm or Sheahan at center is far better than one with Glendening at center.
-
Mantha and Sproul would get the conversation started.
-
Glendening just isn't that good. He's Matt Ellis with better wheels. He's fine as a reserve, but that's about it. I'd rather balance the ice time between the lines more and have a third scoring line and a checking line playing about the same minutes as the game dictates. Helm can handle a role on a scoring line but I think he's better as a check line center. Andersson has some skill, but he's too slow and has zero grit. Callahan has never scores at any level until last year. Take into his low assist numbers and that screams fluke season. I think he can be a decent 4th liner, but you don't build a the trying to keep those guys. Ferraro has Drew Miller upside, if he ever even gets that good. Losing him will not hurt at all.

The ufa players sign quicker because anyone can offer them a deal. There's a lot less urgency for an RFA. -
Glendening has shown that his hard work has made him a borderline NHL player. Jurco showed a good combination of speed size and ability and despite his defensive issues at times he deserves an NHL spot. Callahan has shown he's a good ahl role player.

Tourists go to Vegas to see Celine Dion, Carrot Top, Penn and Teller, etc. along with gambling. They don't go to see a hockey game. Even if they do come from Detroit, or Toronto, or wherever to see their team play Vegas, they're not going to be buying $150 Las Vegas Regrets jerseys, and $20 hats, or the other merchandise.

I think that there are enough good players for 2 more teams. I don't see 32 NHL markets though.
