Montreal would match that in a second.
-
He's old and a 3rd pair D.
-
There were only 33 people with 100+ PIM last year league wide, the leader was Sestito with 213. Staying under 100 PIM isn't much of an accomplishment. He was second on the Jets in PIM, was far and away their worst +/- player, took 38 minor penalties (5 more than KFQ). BTW in 97-98, 121 players had 100+ PIM, Brashear had the most at 372.

Filppula was 3rd or 4th in TOI a game every year but his rookie year and the year Hossa was here when he was a few seconds behind Franzen. He also always had capable linemates.
-
I figured $6 mil per for 7 years for Niskanen. That was pretty close and unless he continues to play like he did last year it's a bad contract. Boyle, Ehrhoff , and Vanek took less to go to teams they wanted to play for.
-
Other GMs also make moves just to make them and don't get any better, they just look different.
-
He's fat and bad defensively. Like I said, if he moved to wing and was cheap, OK. On d or for a lot, no thanks.
-
Buff is not what the d needs. He is, however, what Detroit area restaurants need. Maybe if he came cheap and moved to wing full time.
-
But if the options are trade a huge package for Handle or Myers, get a guy who is beat suited as a second pair guy, or nothing, then what should he do? Anything he does at that point will lead to Holland is a moron screaming

signed Quincey re-signed by DET. 2 yr s $4.25 mill AAV

Other players who are at most slightly better got similar contracts. That's just what the market dictated. I would have signed him anyway, but that's me. Or they had been talking since the season was over and KFQ wanted to stay so he didn't push too hard. -

You can make stats say a lot of things. I'm sure lots of players had similar gaffes, but they're not KFQ so they aren't picked up on. -
Kronwall Smith Kindl and most of the prospects ate puck movers. Pulk has little trade value because of his size speed and how he'd be viewed league wide. Tatar put up more points Datsyuk was still better his rookie year. Offer sheets are a waste of time.

He did not cost the team double digit games single handedly. -
Quincey for Green straight up.
-
One of them. Something like Smith and Kindl for a good RH D.
-
Quincey isn't as bad as people say and he was one of the better guys available. He's still not worth close to that much. It's like going to the prom with your cousin so you don't have to go alone. The only way the D will improve now is if they trade Dekeyser, Ericsson, or Smith in a package for a legit top 4 guy and/or they move Kindl or Lashoff to make a spot for a rookie and use the guy who stays as the 7.

Calling Holland a f---ing moron and all the other crap happening: OK. Saying settle doan that it's not the end of the world: threaten with suspension. Gotcha. -

This is for Kenny -
Yes, but you're not being offered a contract to play for the Bloomfield Hills Red Wings. They also want to live in places with thriving downtowns, and for the more business minded players, areas that have a lot of potential endorsement deals. Warmer weather helps too.
-
And Montreal would call him and say thanks for doing the negotiating for us. Offer sheets don't work. Del Zotto would be a reasonable signing, if it was short term (preferable one year, no more than two) for around $2.5 mil per. He's struggled recently, but that was under Tortorella and then trying to catch on under Trotz. He might be worth a flier on a reclamation project. But only if they move Kindl.
-
The festering pit that Detroit is portrayed as in the national media. Yes, there are suburbs, but players, and especially their trophy wives, don't always see that, and they want to live and do things in the city, not the burbs.
-
Gilbert is still out there. Look for Holland to sign him, trade Kindl, and promote a kid.
-
Once. Every other year he was hurt or ineffective.
-
Boyle for one year, fine. I won't really like it but whatever. 2 years, bad. Ehrhoff for what he'll get offered, also bad. I'd rather see them get Gilbert for 3 years than any of the other 3.
