  1. He can't go on ltir because he's injury prone. He has to have a real documented injury. I can't see him retiring at 32 or 33 with that much money on the table either.
  2. No if his body breaks down they'll be paying $5.8 mil for 30 points and 60 games.

Adam Almquist signed with KHL club

So you want to trade one problem for another. I'd rather fix the issue.
  4. So $5.8 per for 6 years for a second line winger who plays a style that will lead his body to break down well before the contract is up is market value maybe below?

It's not just size, you can be small if you're fast. He's not fast enough. It doesn't matter how well he moves the puck if 99% of the league can win most puck battles against you.

Adam Almquist signed with KHL club

He wasn't ignored, he's not good enough.
  8. 200k as year isn't much of a discount. TB will be regretting this deal in 3 years, if not sooner.

Or he realizes you can't restock your team in free agency anymore and he doesn't want to trade most of their good prospects to get 2 or 3 guys. You're not going to get a good young player for Franzen Pulkinen and Ferraro or the other proposals thrown out around here.

Helm is one of the best 3rd line centers in the NHL. Glendening is a border line NHL player. That's like saying Lucic is like Shanahan because they're both big wingers.

    Joe Thornton to the Wings?

I don't think he's what they need. They have set up guys they need a shooter.

Shawn Thornton will not be returning to the Bruins

13-Bertuzzi and McNulty 12-McKee 11-Hudon and Nedomlel 10- Sheahan (not a fighter but projected as a physical center) 09-Callahan 08- Cayer is a big guy 07-Smith 06-Matthias was supposed to be a power forward Before that they had guys like Kolosov, Bootland, and Ryan Barnes.

They've drafted guys like that. They just haven't made it to the NHL. Most guys "of that ilk" who get drafted don't.

Brad Richards bought out by Rangers

Yup, because he can only do one thing at a time. Talking to Cleary about a possible 2 way contract is the only thing he's working on.

Fixed that for ya. Forget about who you want to give up. Put yourself in the Sharks' GM chair and look at the roster. You're trading one of the better centers in the league to Detroit. You have several other teams wanting to trade with you. Who do you ask for? For me, it's Dekeyser, Nyquist/Jurco, and a first.

Drop the can part. He's old. There's a reason the Bruins are dropping him. I'd love to get a 25 year old, or even a 30 year old, Thornton type player. Go find one who's available.

Shawn Thornton will not be returning to the Bruins

Those guys won't fight an enforcer. They're smart enough to know they'd get pummeled.

    David Booth

No. I don't want any kids forced out because of a reclamation project or has been.

Dan Boyle's rights traded to the Islanders…..

Boyle 3-5 years ago, yes. Boyle now, probably not.

Goons and big hits are being phased out because of the concussion lawsuits, both the ones against the NHL and the big settlement with the NFL.

Compliance buyout expected to be used on Tootoo

Kindl wasn't getting bought out either. Tootoo was sitting in the minors, eating up almost $1 mil in cap space for nothing. Kindl at least has a chance to contribute.

Shawn Thornton will not be returning to the Bruins

When Babcock has had a pure fighter in Detroit the guy barely played. Why get an old guy that forces a young still improving player out just so he can play 5 minutes a night in maybe 50 games then not sniff the ice in the playoffs?
  23. DickieDunn

Shawn Thornton will not be returning to the Bruins

The young guys who fight and have skill are few and far between. Teams don't want useful players in the box 200+ minutes a year anymore, so the Shanahans, Proberts, even guys like McCarty are being told not to fight much, if at all. That leaves the guys who can only fight, and with the way the game has changed coupled with the concussion lawsuits, those guys will be completely out of the game soon.

I'd he'd sign for that he'd probably stay in Colorado.

That depends. Does $6 mil a year on a long term contract for a second line center sound good?
