If I can trade someone who could be a 30 goal scorer for someone who is a 30 goal scorer and is in his prime years, I'd do it in a hot second.
-
Like I said, maybe Botterill wants to keep him, and his future depends on him getting the full time gig.
-
I'd look almost like some of their drafts from the 80's. 89 they got Sillinger, Boughner, Fedorov, Lidstrom, Drake, and Konstantinov. 83 they got Yzerman, Probert, Klima, Kocur, and Grimson. In 81 7 o their 8 draftees played 9-+ games in the NHL.
-
Not that anyone has done this yet, but I kind of laugh when people bring up how other teams are built through the draft, then you look at their top players and they're almost all drafted in the top 10. Then you look at Detroit. Their top few scorers other than Alfredsson were drafted 121, 210, 97, 60, and 171 overall, their top 3 D 29, 291, and undrafted, and their starting goalie was taken 64th. That's one player of their top 9 players taken in the first round. The Pens, on the other hand, have gotten almost nobody outside of the top 5 in the last dozen years.

I think he takes a year off coaching and relaxes.
-
I know. I was making a point about the New Jets.
-
Good coach does not generally mean good GM. They are completely different skill sets.
-
He knows he'd be bad at it
-
Maybe Botterill wants to keep him and they're waiting to see if they're going to get another guy as gm or keep him there.
-
Yes, Holland is incompetent. Total nincompoop. He's so bad, he took over as GM, won a Cup after losing one of the most important pieces of his team to a limo accident, oversaw the transition from one core of players to another, won another Cup, and is currently overseeing another core change all without missing the playoffs or having a bunch o top 10 picks. Total idiot.
-
If they're going to go balls out to win one more cup for Mr. I. and the vets, that means trading a lot of the youth many fans don't want them to trade. They're not going to get good players for Emmerton, Almquist, Callahan, Kindl, and maybe throw in Pulk or a second rounder if you need to. It's going to take several of Jurco, Sproul, Tatar, Nyquist, Ouellet, Marchenko, and Mantha, as well as a few of the second tier guys and some high draft picks if you're going to bring in the two or three high end players that the team needs to put themselves at legit contender status.

Pretty much this. When's the last time a restricted free agent was given an offer that wasn't matched? Even ridiculous ones like the contract the Canes offered Fedorov that made almost all of it paid in the first year if his team made it past the second round or whatever it was got matched. If the Wings offered him max money for 7 years, the Habs might let him go, but then they'd be sitting with a guy who acts like a spoiled child and takes bad penalties and has issues in the D zone making more than any other defenseman in the NHL, taking up a big chunk of cap space. I'd rather have a $6 mil guy and a $4 mil guy than one $10 mil guy.
-
Dan Boyle is not the one missing piece. They also have several young D coming along, it's time to see what they can do. Barring another transaction signing Boyle fills the 7 d spots and prevents that from happening. For the #2 goalie, when you have a set #1, you're limited to guys who have shown they can't be a #1, either because of youth or poor play. I don't think it matters who they sign, he won't be anything special. I don't think Gustavson will get a starting job though, he's hurt too much and wasn't that impressive
-
Offer Krug $7 mil. Unless you mean over 3 years and not per season, that is the single dumbest idea in the history of hockey. Boyle is old and slipping. Gaborik is injury prone and one dimensional. Marchenko and Jurco would both be better ideas. Hossa would cost a top prospect and is signed too long.
-
Rather have Jurco.
-
The Pens are a victim of having too much money invested in too few players, and being Captained by a nut punching d-bag. That's not on Bylsma. I doubt he'd take an assistant job though. I expect him to take a year off then have his pick of jobs.
-
As opposed to NJ, Rags, Isles, Philly, and Boston? We talking the Nords or Jets part 2?
-
I'd do what virtually every team does to a hold out RFA. Let him sit until he realizes the contract I offered is better than making no money at all.
-
If Winnipeg has a successful NHL team in 10 years, I'll give them credit. Right now the fans are in the honeymoon stage. If this latest attempt at getting good flops, how long are they going to jeep filling the barn to see a bad team?
-
I don't like sticking teams back where they failed once. It's like getting back with an ex-girlfriend.
-
First, I highly doubt he starts his NHL career with 3 seasons of 40+ goals. Second, he'd still be an RFA and have less leverage. Third, I don't believe any one player is worth that much, it makes it too hard to build a team with quality depth.
-
Maybe it will, but I doubt it. Even tjwnyounger guys are still professional hockey players. Some posts about it act like it's a certainty to hurt the team.
-
Didn't hurt Bowman. The players won't care unless Babcock us acting like he has a foot out the door, and panic from the chicken little fans won't affect the team either.
-
Winnipeg is capped at 15k. I'd your barn can hold 19k you have the potential to sell that many tickets even if you're not because your team sucks.
-
So the owners should spend millions more than the team is making?
