People compared Jarnkrok to Hank more for style than anything else I think. If the NHL or Sweden thing was true, they weren't going to guarantee him a spot so they would have risked losing him for nothing at that point. Trading him made sense. Further, the whole "best prospect" thing is over rated. Take a look at some of Redwinscentral.com past rankings. A lot of top 5 prospects are either bottom 6 forwards or 3rd pair D or aren't even in the NHL.

Didn't he sign his deal int he new CBA? If so, he's not eligible for a compliance buy out. If the Canucks use a regular buyout on him, there's a reason for it. Pass on anyone who isn't a definite upgrade over a kid.

A first, a 3rd line winger, and a youngish d-man who hasn't shown any kind of consistency in the NHL isn't going to bring the type of player a lot of people seem to think it would. There just isn't the value there with the roster players. Abdelkader, for all his limitations, plays a fairly unique style of play compared to the rest of the guys in the Wings' system. Helm is similar, Callahan might get there when he gets stronger, but Helm is smaller (and thus far more fragile) and Callahan doesn't skate as well. Putting a team together isn't all about getting the 18 most skilled players you can and throwing them out there, you need guys like Abdelkader. That doesn't mean I love the idea of him on Datsyuk's wing, unless maybe he was playing with Nyquist or Zetterberg on the other side, but he does add a lot of things that they won't get from another guy.

Pretty much this. I have a feeling the expectations are going to be way too high for him next year, and even if he scores 25 goals and 50 points, people will be disappointed.

People play through concussions all the time, they just don't tell anyone they're not right. There was a poll of NFL players and virtually every one of them said they have lied or would lie about a concussion to stay in a game.

Gustavsson wasn't that good, his W-L record doesn't reflect what he actually did when he played. He got a lot of wins giving up 4 goals.

He hasn't been suspended in 3 years, so he did clean up his game some, but he's still a repeat offender. If I was in charge, it would be an indefinite suspension and I'd see how far the Wild advance.

If I was in Smith's place I would have dropped my gloves and fed Chara my fist while he was busy laughing. Sure, I probably would have gotten my ass kicked after that, but I would have proven I'm not going to be pushed around and targeted. Beyond that, the Wings got rattled and didn't respond well, and that wasn't coaching. Babcock told them to ignore the crap, they didn't, that's on them.

Andersson plays like he's 5'9" 165. Adding him to try to add anything physical is like throwing a few hundred fleas into your bed to make it more comfortable. Glendening is one of the few guys they have who doesn't seem to care about how big and mean Boston is, taking him out makes zero sense. I think they should roll with what they had, but if anyone is pulled, it should really be one of the kids. They looked lost. Who the hell is McIntyre? And Cleary? Really? Are you just seeing if people are paying attention or something?

Team with the best team in the NHL vs. the 8th best team in the east, Detroit wasn't going to sweep. Not a great game, but I'm ok with the split.

Lucic won't be suspended, there was no injury and it's the playoffs. Didn't look like there was any feeling out period, they just went into full blown don't give an inch playoff hockey. Very intense game focused on limiting chances against. Both goalies were fantastic. Legwand-Glendening-Miller did a fantastic job. There were a lot of times they took a d-zone faceoff and the next draw was in the Bruins' end. Kids looked like they've all been here before, between the Calder Cup last year and the tight end of the season this year, there wasn't much adjustment for them.

This is true. I think Niskanen will get paid though, and if it's not by the Pens he's going to get BIG money on the market, far more than he's probably worth, and more than the Wings need to pay any D-man.

Look at the list of UFA d-men. It's bad. Like, waking up between Rosie O'Donnell and a 65 year old hooker bad. There are 14 pending UFAs who average more than 20 minutes a night, so play a top 4 role. 7 of them are 35 or older. Hainsey, Quincey, Orpik, Gilbert, Niskanen, Butler, and Benoit are the younger guys. I doubt Niskanen will hit the market. I don't think Orpik would either. Gilbert would be a fit if he's willing to sign short term, but I'd imagine he's going to be looking for 4 or 5 years and will get it. Of the older guys, I wouldn't be surprised if Markov went back to the KHL for a couple years before retirement. Boyle is slipping. Zidlicky doesn't impress me at all. Timmonen is 39 and doesn't really bring the dimensions the Wings lack. Mitchell is probably better suited as a 3rd pairing guy. The Wings could have signed Robidas last year and had no interest. I don't think an injury plagued season is going to change that. If they go outside to upgrade the D, it will likely be through a trade.

I don't mind Doc, but Pierre and Olczyk make me want to injure someone. Their thinly veiled hatred for Detroit really gets to me.

Brodeur wants to start. I can't see him leaving NJ to play 25 games as a backup here.
