    Who Sits Next? Speculation Thread

Tatar isn't going anywhere. I have no idea why anyone would think he would be. Columbus is where they are because that's how good they are. The Wings are where they are because every forward who's worth a damn other than Nyquist and Tatar has been hurt a decent chunk of the season.

    1/26 GDT: Panthers 5 @ Red Wings 4 (SO)

The coaches didn't tell Alfredsson and Nyquist that they should both drop down low on that PP, and if they try to sit on a lead, everyone screams about playing it safe and a lack of killer instinct. Nor did they make Eaves go cover the same guy Smith had on another goa. That said, I understand that it's an advantage to have a RH shot on the point, but at that point of the game they should have had 2 D on the points regardless of their shooting hand. RE: Helm. He's never had good hands. That's why he's a 3rd line center, not a #2 guy.

    Andersson v. Sheahan

Andersson has to go through waivers, Sheahan doesn't. Andersson will not be sent to GR and will play when he's healthy. Glendening probably goes before Sheahan though.

    Who Sits Next? Speculation Thread

Before Weiss comes off LTIR the Wings are going to have to clear a bunch of cap space somehow. The only way they can get cap compliant otherwise is to send Eaves, Cleary, Jurco, and Sheahan down and run with a 22 man active roster, with Bertuzzi and Glendening or Emmerton as the 12th and 13th forwards. Weiss isn't going anywhere. If the Wings told him they wanted to move him, he'd probably waive the NTC as long as he wasn't being sent to a train wreck like Columbus or Calgary, but they'd get next to nothing back for him. As good as Sheahan has played, he's not a #2 center, and I'm not convinced that Helm is either, or that he can stay healthy.

Howard has been better lately. Gustavasson's numbers aren't that much better, despite his win-loss record, and the last 5 games he's given up 4 goals 3 times and 3 in another game. If the Wings weren't scoring, they could have easily been 1-4 in those game. In the meantime, Howard has given up 3+ in 4 of his last 11 games and got a L or OTL in 3 games where he allowed 2 or fewer.

As soon as someone else comes off IR they'll be at the roster limit. Weiss is the only one on long term, but others are on short term. He's not ready for the NHL and they don't have a roster spot anyway.

Andersson won't clear waivers and they're not going to lose him for nothing. It would be paste eating level stupid. I'm guess Glendening goes first.

So good they played less than a guy who was going to be scratched. They were the best line and were behind Franzen's line and Helm's line. I've been one of Babcock's supporters but it's ridiculous.

Pissed how they lost. Kid line was great but didn't play nearly enough. Cleary goes from scratched to a ton of ice time. Gustavsson is not that good. Ton of goals against lately. Happy with the last few games overall.

It's his back. If he can't go, he can't go. Or would you rather have him play today and risk missing 2 months?

Just tell Thomas that a lot of black vans and SUVs have been see, and there are some people in dark suits who need to talk to him after the game. Thomas will be running for his bunker.

    Trade with Sabres?

Kindl is the only one worth a damn in that proposal. I don't want to dump Kindl for a rental, and novody would want the other players.
  13. DickieDunn

    Possible trade with Panthers

Yes, because teams want to trade for garbage. Emmerton is a fringe NHL player, Ferraro is an AHL 3rd liner. Given that one of the Oilers' biggest issues is a lack of veteran leadership, they should be looking to extend Schultz. Then there's the fact that he's not a good puck mover and he has a $3.5mil cap hit, and the Wings are already over the cap when Weiss comes back. They don't need a young d-man either, so they don't need to get Kulikov. Kronwall is the only d-man they have north of 30, and they're loaded with good D prospects already. The Wings have 2 needs. A top center prospect. Big wingers who can score.

What? Not a lot of interest in hockey in LA? Too many outdoor games? Nothing like taking a good idea and ruining it with overexposure Bettman, you filthy little money grubbing troll.

    Franzen set to return Sunday

He hurt his groin in camp, came back but wasn't really right, re-aggravated it, came back, then had the sports hernia that required surgery. They must be better at fixing them now than they used to be, IIRC GIlchrist was out a hell of a lot longer than that with one. Yeah, but he's been practicing. Hopefully he comes back excited to play and scores a bunch.

    Sammy Waived

Barely. Sheahan's hit is actually higher. But that wouldn't do much for the rest of this year except give them one fewer center to call up if needed, and wouldn't help at all for the playoffs since Sheahan could be called up then anyway.

2 things: Once Weiss is off IR, they will be over the cap unless they can clear cap on a more permanent basis. This move only allows them to keep a kid up a little longer. I ran it through capgeek's armchair GM feature. FORWARDS Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Gustav Nyquist ($0.950m) Tomas Tatar ($0.630m) / Stephen Weiss ($4.900m) / Daniel Alfredsson ($3.500m) Drew Miller ($1.350m) / Joakim Andersson ($0.733m) / Luke Glendening ($0.575m) Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Kyle Quincey ($3.775m) Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) / Jakub Kindl ($2.400m) Brendan Smith ($1.263m) / Danny DeKeyser ($0.925m) Brian Lashoff ($0.725m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($5.292m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) BUYOUTS Carlo Colaiacovo ($0.000m) BURIED Danny Cleary ($0.825m) Mikael Samuelsson ($2.900m) Patrick Eaves ($0.275m) Jordin Tootoo ($0.975m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (estimations for 2013-14 crunched using simulation date of 2014-01-25) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; BONUSES: $2,635,000 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $89,333 2: Samuelsson's NTC is irrelevant. If he was scoring 20 goals, they probably wouldn't want to move him. If they did want to move him, players generally are willing to waive the NTC. As bad as he's been, nobody is going to want to trade for him even if he didn't have the NTC.
  18. DickieDunn

So when would you make a move and what type?

I wouldn't trade all those forwards either, which is why I listed them with and "or." One of them, plus Kindl, and one D prospect, or Kindl and 2 d prospects, isn't going to gut the team's future.
  19. DickieDunn

So when would you make a move and what type?

Weber's hit isn't 14, it's 7.87. I'd take him in a second for that. Mantha, Jurco, Nyquist, or Tatar+Kindl+D prospect. A top 4 of Kronwall, Weber, Ericsson, and Dekeyser would be one of, I'd not the best, d units in the NHL.
  20. DickieDunn

So when would you make a move and what type?

Not even if they kept half his salary and took Samuelsson straight up for him. I don't want a d-man who can't defend.
