There isn't a huge difference in quality of player you're probably getting from barely in the playoffs to just out of the playoffs historically. Unless you're going to be in the top 10 in the draft, you might as well make the playoffs, get the younger guys you have some experience there and make the extra revenue.

Would you trade Jimmy for a top pairing dman?

And then create a huge hole in net. That's just brilliant. -
Colaiacovo was signed to play a support role, not a main role, where Kindl was there when he was inevitably going to be hurt. He missed more time last year than he ever had before, and Holland knew he was probably going to have a buyout available if the cap dropped and Cola wasn't needed anymore. Weiss doesn't have a history of groin injuries, I'm not sure how you think Holland was supposed to have predicted that, unless you're saying that Holland is the one who hurt Weiss in the first place.

Hence the part about never seeing the ice. On the roster doesn't mean dressed. He'll be on the roster sitting outside in the guard shack for the player parking lot in street clothes.

No, I would not. -
I'll complete it as soon as I write it, I just enver get around to writing one. The person below me had a child come home from school with different hair than they left the house with. As in dyed blue and pink on the playground.

Samuelsson will be on the roster, and never see the ice in the playoffs.
-
I don't see him being much different that Tootoo. Unless there are off ice reasons Tootoo got banished by Babcock, I don't see how Ott will play any more.
-
I don't think Miller in goal is going to get anyone pumped up. Winning is going to get fans pumped up, and that's not going to happen consistently until some people get back into the lineup.

Nail Yakupov, as told to Igor Larionov...or not.
DickieDunn replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
He has lots of talent, but doesn't like to play a complete game. No back checking, no hitting, no going to the hard areas of the ice. He's basically Leino with more talent. Unless he changes that attitude, he'll never be a good player and certainly not who we need in Detroit. He has stated several times that he has no interest in playing in Russia, so I don't know how likely it is that he leaves for the KHL when his contract is up, or with the Oilers' blessing. -
Kronwall, Ericsson, Dekeyser are for sure here long term. Smith, Kindl, and Lashoff may or may not be here long term. Sproul, Ouellet, Bakman, Marchenko, Jensen, and possibly Almquist have pretty decent chances of being NHL defensemen sometime in the next 2-3 years. Then they have McKee, McNulty, De haas, Fournier, Nicastro, Nedomlel, and Wheaton. Where would this kid fit in the Wings' organization even if he does make the unlikely journey from where he's at now to the NHL?

100k in cap space doesn't open up enough to call anyone up. Waiving him does absolutely nothing except cause a roster problem now, and after the roster limit is lifted it's irrelevant.
-
There's no point. Waiving him saves only 100k in cap room, there's not enough savings to matter.

Would you trade for Samuelsson?

GDT 1/18 GDT: Kings 2 @ Red Wings 3 (Shootout)

Samuelsson and Cleary should sit. That leaves 2 spots, and if someone is hurt it will probably be a center meaning Jurco still has no spot -

Once people are IR there's no room for Jurco or Sheahan, regardless of their ability, until the roster limits lift after the trade deadline. Bertuzzi and Samuelsson would only clear $100k, and other guys are already set to go back to GR eventually. Datsyuk Zetterberg Franzen Weiss Tatar Nyquist Helm Alfredsson Bertuzzi Miller Andersson Samuelsson Abdelkader 13 spots set, 1 spot open and taken by Cleary. If you want to argue that Glendening and Eaves should be send down before Sheahan and Jurco, I can get on board with that, but there's no room with a reasonably healthy lineup. -

Not if they're not ready -
I don't think the Wings have any more groin injuries than other teams do. It happens in hockey.
-
There was no reason for them not to have bought him out if they could have. He wasn't faking though, or at least he hadn't been cleared by a doctor even if he was healthy at the time. Kahn is generally pretty spot on about things, and he said they wanted to but couldn't without a good possibility of a challenge by Samuelsson's camp.

At least they have Tatar and Jurco on the second line, that should take some pressure off Zetterberg. -
Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi Franzen-Weiss-Alfredsson Tatar-Helm-Nyquist Miller-Andersson-Abdelkader Nyquist-Zetterberg-Abdelkader Tatar-Andersson-Bertuzzi Miller-Sheahan-Eaves Cleary-Glendening-Samuelsson The first group is what they were expecting to have on at least a semi-regular basis. That roster easily makes the playoffs. The second group is about what they've been forced to play with recently. That roster could compete for the top overall pick. That's why they've been losing. It's not because Tatar was scratched for 8 games early in the season. it's not because Cleary, Samuelsson, and Bertuzzi aren't pulling their weight. It's because virtually every forward who's any good at all, other than Nyquist and Tatar, have missed over 20% of the season. Miller Andersson, and Cleary are the only forwards who have played at least 90% of the possible games. I don't care if your coaching staff is Scotty Bowman, Toe Blake and Al Arbour, this roster isn't going to score enough to win consistently until they get some players back.
-
It's to protect the players, and it's no different than your boss not being able to fire you if you get hurt at work unless you're unable to return within 6 months. He was hurt to end the season, and he'd never received medical clearance to resume hockey activities until after the buyout period was over. if Samuelsson retires it does nothing but open up a roster space without clearing any cap room to fill it. Like it or not they're stuck with him unless he gets hurt and goes on LTIR for the rest of the year.

Orpik is a dirty POS. If you respond to dirty play with dirty play, you have no room to talk though. If I was in Thornton's position and Orpik wouldn't go, I'd line up one of his guys and drive him through the boards would a good clean hit and tell him to thank Brooks for the hit.
-
Hall yes but no way 1st ballot. Let him wait until the contract is up.

Doesn't clear enough. Tootoo and Eaves will already be gone when people get back. Besides they won't waive someone they just re-signed.
