Trade everyone over the age of 30 and bring all the kids up. I want to be like the Oilers. -
Ilitch reveals plan for new $450m, 18,000-seat Red Wings arena
DickieDunn replied to Ally's topic in General
Building up the downtown area absolutely helps a city. I've seen it first hand in Grand Rapids. Before the Van Andel was built it was run down and empty, most of the buildings were offices or cheap roach infested flop houses and nobody lived there or stuck around downtown after 6:00 if they could help it. Now there are restaurants, bars, and the area is packed at night and a lot of the unused buildings are converted into nice apartments. The arena itself might not bring in much money, but the places that come with it will. Now that 3 of the 4 pro teams will have their buildings right next to each other and they play in different seasons, there won't be any downtime either. -
They've been working on them, but the challenge is getting players to accept new stuff, particularly if it looks different.

It would also help to teach kids to keep their heads up and how to take a hit. Most of the injuries I see from hits that aren't blatant attempts to injure are because the guy either has his head down and isn't aware or he tries to sidestep the hit and gets his knee wrecked.
-
If he wanted to go back to Europe he'd have signed there by now. I just think he truly believes he's worth more than he's been offered.
-
That's what happens when you base your punishment on the result of the hit instead of the hit itself. An illegal hit should be punished as much if the other guy bounces right back up as it is if he's going to be out 8 weeks.

Why do I get the feeling that 90% of the people who say they should have handed the spots to rookies rather than sign Samuelsson and Bertuzzi would be screaming about how badly Holland miscalculated by handing roster spots to kids who only produced that much if that had been the plan?

Um, OK, not really sure this'll have the desired effect

Because it looks like they're running pipes from the urinals to the hoses to flood the rink. If you need gimmicks like this to promote the team, you need a new marketing department. -
Try again. The franchise has 13 Cups to Detroit's 11. They have some under the names Arenas and St. Pats, same team different names.

signed Brendan Smith signs 2-year, $2.525m contract with Red Wings

Do they need a pylon for the player parking lot? That's about all he's good for. -
Fewer people play hockey and you're more likely to watch a sport you have played. Hockey is a "white person" sport so a good chunk of the population ignores it.

No but if you get a #8 Syd Howe Jersey you are.

The best gauge of what he likely would have done over a 48 game season is what he did in 48 games he was healthy for in Florida in 11-12 when he had 28 points. Even a 20% drop off would be more than the rookies had together. Arguing that a healthy Samuelsson wouldn't outscore the rookies is like when my 6 year old is arguing with her brother and just saying "nuh uh" so she won't have to admit she's wrong.
-
Over inflated expectations will do that. People are thinking he's going to play as well or better than Stuart from day one with nine rookie mistakes, then when he doesn't he'll be terrible and they should dump him. Just Luke Ericsson, Kindl, and Smith.

Homer gave it up for Mironov. After that it was worn by Gill, Golubovsky, Verbeek, Kohn, Woolley, and Langfeld.

I really don't understand how anyone can say a kid who scored 11 points in 36 games is better than a guy coming off the seasons Samuelsson had the last 3 years before coming back to Detroit. He had 50 points twice and was on pace for another 50 point season in Florida if he hadn't gotten hurt. If the Wings had signed a different guy with identical size and stats, I don't think you'd see all the complaints, but because he was a "retread" it was a bad signing. True, it didn't work out this year, but there's no way anyone can legitimately say he wouldn't have scored more than Nyquist, Tatar, and Anderson combined if he had need healthy.

What educated analysts said that Dekeyser is a top pair d ad a rookie? I remember a lot of people saying similar things about Ericsson after his first short stint in Detroit too, then he crashed back to reality and some of the same people who said he was a top 4 d as a rookie didn't want him extended for mote than $1.5 mil a season. Now he's developed into a pretty good defenseman. I think DD is going to follow a similar path.

Hey remember that time you tried to kill a funny post? Yeah... that sucked.
