I keep seeing that he's not a real #1. Figure that not every team has a #1 and a couple might have 2 guys who qualify, there are maybe 25 #1 caliber D in the NHL. Assuming Kronwall isn't a #1, name 25 better. Or even 20. He is not elite, top 5 in the world. He is a #1.

If it was his call, yes.

Yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic. Yzerman helped build a regular season winner in TB, but no Cups. If he's a great GM, so is Doug Wilson.

2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?

Next season the Wings need 3 young D in the lineup. Use Ericsson as the #7, if Kronwall comes back dump Green or Daley. Pair a vet with a rookie on each pairing. The D will still be bad, but there should be improvement as the season goes along. Hronek, Cholowski, and whoever plays best out of the rest of the group. -
Kind of surprised that Holland stepped down. Hopefully we'll see some real changes in how the team is run, going forward, and Blashill is on a short leash next season.

Much like a 40+ year old divorced woman at a bar for last call, Wings need a D. But if a forward is clearly the best player available there, take the forward

If the new coach and GM ran the team like the current pair of mental midgets, yes. -

Someone needs a new GM and coach -
depends on what they do with it.

I'll believe Yzerman as GM in Detroit when it happens. Holland is going to have to be dragged out of that office kicking and screaming, and ownership doesn't give two turds enough to do it. -
https://www.mlive.com/redwings/2019/03/red-wings-to-extend-coach-jeff-blashill-for-two-seasons.html Awesome. Two more years of a guy who often looks clueless on the bench, refuses to hold vets accountable, fumble in game adjustments, often has players come out flat and unprepared, and whose teams make the same mistakes at the end of the year that they do at the beginning.

Steve Yzerman to step down as GM for TBL. Will serve in "Advisory Role".

So, he doesn't want to be a GM because he wants to live in Detroit with his family. -

The only 2 reasons for Yzerman to come to Detroit is if he either doesn't want to be a GM any more, or he's been told 100% Holland will not be the GM after next season. -
Bowman got away with a lot of stuff because he won. Just because it worked for him doesn't mean it would work for anyone else
-
But no, there is zero chance he's bought out any time soon, for the reasons stated by others
-
No, but you can cut ice time for vets who make the same mistakes regularly
-
If it was just a talent level issue I wouldn't be mad. This team isn't great, but there have been too many games this year where they were thoroughly outworked, and his habit of benching a young player for a small mistake while letting a vet make the same error multiple times without missing a shift in infuriating.

They promoted a complete dumbass to supervisor at my job because nobody else wanted the job, even though there were probably 12 people more qualified

You forgot Sponge Bob Sorry, I drink Haterade by the gallon

Good coaches don't struggle with in game adjustments.

I was at the 20th anniversary game the last year at the Joe. I had a sign for 20th annual Turtle Stomping Day that was featured on the jumbo tron. Good times.

Wings surging late now reminds me of the Wayne Fontes Lions. Lose the first half, make a run, and save Wayne's job. Too many nights with no effort, too many guys making the same mistakes now that they made at the start of the year. The team isn't growing nearly enough despite some point totals

Take the craziest guy on your team, give him a bunch of padding, and tell him to stop pucks
