If Tatar gets $5 mil and AA get's $2.2 mil, that puts them about $4.3 mil over the cap with 22 guys on the roster. It's a problem

My issue is the way he handled Helm, Abdelkader, Glendening, and Dekeyser. All of them got around the max they could have been expected to get in free agency, and Dekeyser is the only one who has a real shot at being worth it. Now there's no room to give contracts to the guys you need to pay to keep because he gave the money to grinders that could have been replaced with cheaper players without losing much. Take a total of $1.8 mil from each of the 3 3rd or 4th liners he overpaid "just a little" and there isn't an issue paying Tatar. I don't like 7 year deals, but I'd rather give it to a younger scorer like Tatar than a guy who's going to be starting the back half of his career when the deal starts like Abdelkader.

He's far more talented than the grinders Holland rewarded, but he's not from Michigan or Western Canada so they play hardball with him. He saw what grinders like Abdelkader and Helm get from Holland and thinks he should get significantly more, or he wants out and is using this to force the Wings' hand. What was the injury? Something that might affect him the stuff off his career, or has a real risk of recurring? Or is it something where he'll be somewhat limited fir 6-12 months then he fine? 1) He may have meant if they don't feel I'm worth a longer deal they probably don't feel I'm worth keeping. 2) He has proven he's a good goal scorer and is in his last year of rfa status. Generally those guys get similar deals to what a ufa would get. 3) Abdelkader was in the same situation and the deal got done quick. 4) The idea that these guys owe the team something and they should keep their mouths shut publicly if they're unhappy is ridiculous. You don't think every other player in the NHL tells their GM they want X contract or they walk? Just because Tatar did it in a paper in Europe doesn't make him a bad guy or greedy or whatever problem you have with him over it. It makes him honest. If I was an employee on any field and had watched b my boss give raises to people who were less valuable than me without batting an eyelash, then tried to low-ball me, I'd be looking for a new employer. In fact, that's exactly what I did when that happened to me. Anyone who says they'd be ok with that happening to them is either lying or is a doormat. If Abdelkader, Helm, Nyquist, and Glendening are worth what they got, Tatar absolutely is worth $5 mil a year. Of course if the 3 grinders hadn't been overpaid by $500k+ a season there wouldn't be a cap issue giving Tatar what he deserves. Sent by my minions via telepathy

Abdelkader got paid based on what he did while being carried by Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Without them he's a 3rd line grinder. Tatar never got to play with two players that good. Unless they're in range of a playoff spot, then he'll probably make a trade to add at the deadline His poturing could be so that he won't get more than a one year deal then he can decide if they make appropriate moves towards the future before committing long term. That's what I'd do.

The "attitude" is so overblown. Abby, Helm, Glendening got handed 4-7 years at good money with little negotiation, they play hardball with Tatar who can actually produce offense without playing with two high end linemates. I'd be pissed too, and so would all of you if your boss pulled that Sent by my minions via telepathy

That's exactly what some people want. Trade them for whatever and sign Vanek and Jagr. Doesn't do much long term or short term. Not all the prospects will work out. There will be room for guys like Tatar and Nyquist. Fix the PP and both will look a lot better, and they can be traded later if need be as long as Holland doesn't go full retard and give Tatar 7 years and $6 mil. Sent by my minions via telepathy
