The bottom line is Mrazek was horrible. One of the worst in the league. That's not just kind of bad, or slumping. It was garbage. He's young. So what. That doesn't mean he's due to a bounce back just because his first few months in the NHL were good. Teams figured out his flaws and how to beat him and he never adjusted. Happens often. Off-season moves

Defense is part of offense. A large part of the offensive struggles is a lack of guys on the blue line who can get the puck from the other team, make a good transition pass, join the rush and bury chances when they get them. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Do you mean who could they get for AA or Svechnikov, or who would they be better off with than them? The answer to the first is I don't know, that's Holland's job to find those deals. The answer to the second is any top pair D is more valuable than a second line winger, or even a first line winger unless it's an elite player like Ovechkin, Kane, Shanahan, etc. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

    Off-season moves

Wings have several young forwards. No of their D prospects other than maybe Cholowski are looking like top pair guys. Smart asset management says trade from a surplus to fill a deficit. If AA, a second, and another prospect other than Svechnikov gets you a young top pair D, it's a good trade. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

OK, but you're on record saying they shouldn't have given Howard as many starts and Coreau shouldn't have gotten as many as he did so they could play Mrazek even though he was playing like a dumpster fire all year. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

    Off-season moves

No he wasn't. Trashill went overboard reacting to his defensive issues but they're a legit concern, and more minutes doesn't mean he's going to have the same per 60 numbers, especially playing against better competition. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk I would too, and unless I'm getting a young guy who's already elite I wouldn't move more than one of them, but one of them plus other assets might bring back a young defenseman, and if you can do that you make the move. Forwards are a lot easier to identify in the draft and find in general than a good D. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

So should they allow him to be the #1 guy and play 60 games even if he's terrible, so he can work through his issues? Because that would send a great message to the team. "Look guys I know we've lost a ton because of goal tending issues, but we can't make a change because Petr was named the starter and we just don't think it's fair to take the job away just because he's not getting the job done." Isn't it his job to step up and play well when he gets an opportunity? So yes, they should complain if he fails. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Mrazek is a $4 million goalie who spent over a year playing like an AHL journeyman with rumors of a bad attitude. I wouldn't have touched him either. I would have snagged XO instead, though. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Larkin is almost as fast, is more complete as a player, is younger, and is more likely to be a center than AA, and center is a more valuable position than wing. All things being equal, you move AA first. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Depends on if Holland keeps Blas#!t around all year. But I expect he will, so I'll say 8

    2017 Draft

Elite level centers are harder to find outside the top handful of picks than elite level D, because D is harder to predict as 18 year olds. If they can trade up to get one of the top couple guys this year without giving up a king's ransom to do it, they should. They might be able to get a Suter type in the second round, or with a pick in the 8-12 range next year. Larkin may or may not ever be a first line player, it depends on if he can adjust his game to find ways to be effective other than just using his speed. I don't have a lot of expectations for anyone, especially the younger players, next year as long as Blas#!t is running the team. He's far too quick to yank a younger player's ice time and go back to the vets, even though the vets aren't any better and make the same mistakes the kids make. For God's sake, he pulled AA and Mantha off the PP last year to use Riley "I didn't score for 79 games" Sheahan because they gave up some SH goals, and he thought they needed a better defensive player to help an anemic PP.

Anyone think Holland is working on a deal to flip the #9 for the #15 and Nosek, because he can't stand losing players if he can avoid it? Actually, I'd offer the #9 and Nyquist to get Theodore I think.

Theodore has a chance of being a hell of a player, plus whoever they take in the draft.

McPhee needs guys to play in the AHL too. 30 players taken plus any free agents he signs that were't int he expansion draft, 23 roster spots. At least 7 were either going to be pending free agents he wasn't going to sign, were going to be traded, or are AHL caliber guys anyway. I'm sure Pulk and Nosek will be given a shot at making the team, but it's far from a sure thing.

I'd tell him he has training camp to prove he can still be an effective NHL player If he isn't better than he has been he'll be sent to GR, or he can retire and I won't object to him playing in Sweden. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk
