Howard is what he is. Mrazek has been dog crap more than he's been good and the team may be getting tired of his poor attitude. I'd still protect him over Howard. Either he bounces back and is a legit #1 or he doesn't and they let him walk next summer. That said there are better options in net for Vegas. If they take Mrazek it will be to use as trade bait. If he left all his bad contracts exposed and kept XO over flash in the pan Jensen I'd be happier. If he takes a C and a D with his first two picks without reaching for some midget with questionable work ethic or a d-man who can't defend. I'd prefer better players over someone who's just big. Pettersson: He's too small! We don't need any soft Euro-style players!- you didn't say anything about his skill, only his weight and playing style. Suzuki- Drafting him is ok, even though he's actually small, compared to the guy you said you didn't want because he's too small. CHL vs. SHL: CHL teams are stocked primarily with kids who will never play a single pro game in any league. SHL IS a pro league. Saying a junior league is better is like saying the current college football champ could beat an NFL team. Outside of a player or three, none of the kids will ever be as good as the professional players. Yes, CHL players tend to put up more points, but that's because of the styles of the leagues. The average CHL goalie isn't as good as the average SHL goalie, the defensemen make more mistakes because they're still learning, and the game is more focused of shooting. Mrazek has been a pile of dog crap since February 2016. I don't care how young he is, that's a pretty serious downward trend. I don't know if he went out for his birthday, tried something new, and got hooked, or if water found its level and this is how good he really is, if he just pouted because Howard got the net back after Mrazek struggled early, or what. It's hard to say it's the team when Howard was playing behind the same D and had far superior numbers, other than the W-L thanks to almost no goal support. As far as who they lose, I think protecting Jensen is a mistake because I don't believe he'll be any better than an OK 3rd pairing guy, where XO has more potential and is a steadier player overall. I'd still protect Sheahan over Abdelkader or any of the other higher paid 3rd line caliber players because of his contract vs. theirs. Nosek is nothing but a 4th liner, I'd be surprised if Vegas took him. Sproul COULD take a big step forward, but I don't think it's likely. They should have tried to move him in a package for younger established d-man after he won the OHL defenseman of the year award, like I said at the time.
