Signed Frans Nielson signs 6 year $5.25m AAV contract with Detroit
DickieDunn replied to Jedi's topic in General
I'd rather have a kid who is out of waivers as the 2 spare forwards than some old vet like Ott. If you decide the kids are crap and they play their way off the team later, either promote someone else from GR or claim someone else off waivers. If they sign a guy under 30 years old who can play on a scoring line and hit and agitate and be hard to play against, fantastic. Otherwise just go with what they have. -

We need a better player who does that. Not Ott. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk -
I don't buy the Eichel story. I'm sure he was pissed about losing, but the whole "he said he won't sign" thing seems like BS from a guy who wants attention. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

That's what I was thinking. Plus, he got drafted 2nd overall, did he think it'd be an overnight rebuild? Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams
DickieDunn replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
He's 30 and not better than most of the guys who Wings have now. Why would they want him? Unless it's a one year deal hoping they can move him at the deadline, there's no point. -
An NHL vet who can't handle it any more and a bunch of career AHL players. Who cares?
-
Only if he takes a one year deal
-
Abdelkader was given the contract based on his stats, not his ability. Any decent NHL forward could have put up the numbers he did his two "big" years playing with his linemates and getting that much TOI. Most could have done better. What he did this year is likely a lot closer to what he's going to do for the rest of the contract, including missed games due to injury. That's not worth close to what he's making. Green will probably bring more at the deadline. Waiving Ericsson adds too much dead money to be worthwhile. Just play him on the 3rd pair, scratch him 20-30 games, and bite the bullet. Put Tatar and Nyquist on the block. Whichever one brings a good return first is moved, keep the other.
-
Take what they had at the end of the season, maybe add Svechdog and/or Russo. No pending UFAs in Detroit and I doubt any RFAs are left unqualified or anyone is waived.
-
That's on the coach to play the younger player. Personally, I didn't see a lot of positives from any of the young D that make me think they're ever going to be more than an ok #4 or a decent 3rd pair. Russo has time to develop, Jensen, Sproul, and XO not as much. And that's why I'm ok with trading prospects. When Sproul was tearing up the OHL and Nyquist was in GR I wanted Holland to package them for a high end player and was told I was nuts by people around here for wanting to trade so much potential. There is no easy fix for the D. If they were willing to move AA, Mantha, or Svechnikov plus more assets, they might be able to get a good defenseman, but I don't see it happening.
-
The Wings aren't in any kind of position to give up assets to dump a contract, unless it's not much of an asset. Maybe Vegas decides they need to reach the cap floor and they're willing to take Ericsson and a 3rd in exchange for a 4th or Sproul or something, but I don't think that wold be enough, and I wouldn't want them to give up anything more. As much as I hate some of these deals, they'd be better off sucking it up and eating them for now.
-
I'm going to assume Vegas takes XO in the expansion draft looking for youth and cheap Tatar-Larkin-Mantha Nyquist-Zetterberg-AA Svechnikov-Nielsen-Vanek type UFA Abdelkader-Helm-Glendening Callahan/Nosek-Sheahan Dekeyser-Russo Kronwall-Green Ericsson-Sproul Jensen Howard and Mrazek in net

Ok. Ignore what I was saying. Nielsen shouldn't be a Red Wing if the goal was winning a Cup anytime soon. Period. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

That's why I said only a Vanek type as trade bait. Too bad Holland thinks that they should be happy with making the playoffs and being bounced early. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

So what? I want a Cup not a first round exit. If that means a couple more bad years, fine. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk
