Smart fans understood that if the cost of Suter was Parise on that deal, it was better to walk away
-
Daley was better. He didn't put up as many points but got no PP time, and was better defensively. That said, if Green signs for a 1 year deal without a NTC, fine. But I doubt that happens. I fully expect at least 3 years at $5 mil+

even if trading AA and that pick gets a #2 or 3 d-man, later 1st rounders don't generally amount to much on average, and that caliber of a d-man is more valuable than a 15-20 goal winger.
-
AA and Vegas' 1st might get a quality d-man.

Well, if an employee is under contract, then the team has the right to deny permission to discuss another job. If the employee's contract is up, there's no moral, ethical, or business related reason for other potential employees to speak to him or her about another job. It's not poaching or hypocrisy, it's business, especially when there's such a small number of people in said business and who are good at their jobs.
-
Are people here really getting upset with guys leaving for new jobs where they're getting more money and a promotion? It's part of business.
-
Nyquist is what he is, and what I figured he'd be. Some people got over hyped about him, and now that he's not matching up to that he "sucks" in their eyes. His contract isn't that bad, either. AA is all flash and no substance. He needs to figure out that there's more to hockey than speed and highlight reel goals.

I have no confidence in anyone in the front office, Draper and Martin included. They're part of the decline. That being said, I'll wait until I see what Holland does before going full "screw you guys, I'm going home." Right now I'm about 90% there. if Holland actually looks like he's rebuilding and avoids signing middle of the road vets to 3 year deals and leaves spots wide open for rookies to win, I'll back away from the edge a bit. If he continues as he has the last few years, I don't know how much I'm going to be able to make myself care about the team next year. At that point I think the only thing that will get through to ownership is an empty arena and record low local TV ratings.
-
IF he really means it and avoids anymore 3+ year contracts to guys 29+ years old who aren't going to be much use in 2 or 3 years, I'll cut him some slack. If he brings Green back for 3+ years with a NTC, signs another Nielsen type forward, etc. I'll burn him in effigy. Sign Witkowski/Booth level players to low salary one year contracts and let the kids compete for the jobs. If they show they're ready, put them on the team over the vets, otherwise the old guy gets an NHL job for awhile until someone pushes past them. Any signings need to be placeholders who are easily waived.

Detroit Reportedly in the Mix for Top College UFA Defenseman Daniel Brickley

Most players would be less than effective under this moron coach -

A 2nd pair D they got without using a draft pick or trading for? -
The good: They're 3rd in the division with 25 points in 24 games. The bad: Boston is 1 point behind with 3 games in hand and Ottawa is 3 points back with 2 games in hand, so once they catch up they could both be ahead of Detroit. The Ugly: 6 teams in the Metropolitan have more points than Detroit, 4 of them have played fewer games, Carolina is 1 point back with 3 games in hand and the last place Flyers are 3 points back with 2 games in hand. Detroit is on pace for 85 points, last year only 7 teams had fewer than that by the end of the season. So while it would be a light improvement record wise it's still not close to the playoffs.

Wings signing players coming off surgery has been a disaster for the last several years. One more reason to pass on Green unless he'll do it for one year at $4 mil or less without a NTC
-
I have a bad feeling the Lack-of-Brain trust will be back intact. I hope I'm wrong. With Green's neck injury, I want him back even less than I did before. The track record of guys coming off surgery to play for the Wings hasn't been good. MAYBE one year, $3 mil, no NTC, but if Holland is back I fully expect 4 years at $6 mil with full NMC.
-
except the odds of winning go up a minimal amount with each ticket sold. The odds go up at least a full percent for every spot the Wings move closer to 31st, and the bottom 2 have the odds jump up even more. Also, while it's possible that 3 teams could jump the bottom 2 teams, it's not exactly likely.

Browns. Lions when WC Ford was alive
-
when can we eliminate Holland and Blashill from the organization?
-
Deadmarsh was a Wings killer but I would have taken him here in a second.
-
whatever it was before he finally got pulled and said he'd never play another game for the Habs.
-
the 2 best things that happened to Quebec/Colorado was Lindros not wanting to play for them and the Wings hanging 11 goals on Patty Wah.
-
It all depends on if he's just following orders or if these are his decisions. I lean towards the latter.

Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread
DickieDunn replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
Big forwards, little d-men, and if a kid plays NCAA hockey especially at Michigan that gives him bonus. Larkin was U-M, Cholo is a small D, Mantha, Svechnikov, and Rasmussen are big. If Huhes is there and Dahlin and Svechnikov pt. @ are gone, I think they take him I didn't say I'd like it, I said it's a Holland pick. No way I'd take Hughes unless he was clearly better than others, or only small d-men were left without reaching. -

Hughes looks like the prototypical Holland pick. Undersized offensive d-man and he's playing at Michigan. If they don't get Dahlin or Svechnikov I think they get him. -
IDK, if I were in Holland's position and ownership was telling me to do things I knew would blow up and make me look like a moron, I think I'd tell them let me do my job so we can be contenders again ASAP or fire me and I'll have almost every other team in the NHL calling me tomorrow.
