I said that when the last three were signed and was told I'm a hater. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Overpayment. He's a 3rd pair guy on a good team. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Smith isn't very valuable though unless you look at his advanced stats and ignore everything else. A 3rd or 4th rounder can turn into a better player or be packaged as part of a deal. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

So you'd rather overpay a mediocre player than trade him because he might be better in another system? That's a terrible line of reasoning. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

They wanted him riding the pine instead of one of their prospects. Not a dick move, it's doing what's best for your team. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Well, if Holland lets Smith leave and he goes to another team and his performance improves, that would make Holland look bad., Much better to give him a 4 year deal to stay.

Glendening is a border line NHL player who should never play more than 10 minutes a game. Wings coaches loved him though and overuse him, making Hollland believe he's better than he is. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Abdelakder: Signed through 22-23, $4.25m, 4G 8A in 39 games, 82 game pts pace: 25.2 Helm: Signed through 20-21, $3.85m, 6G 5A in 29 games 82 game pts pace 31.1 Nielsen: Signed through 21-22, $5.25m, 10G 16A in 54 games 82 game pts pace 39.5 Glendening: Signed through 20-21, $1.8m, 2G 10A in 57 games 82 game pts pace 17.3 Dekeyser: Signed through 21-22, $5m, 3G 5A in 57 games 82 game pts pace 11.5 The forwards are all at or near the age when they're probably going to start slowing down, and none of them are really earning their pay now. It's only going to get worse. Basically they have a 4th line paid almost $10 mil. Dekeyser would be better if they could use him on the second pair, but they still need more from him for that contract. Does anyone still think these are good contracts?

4% is pretty significant. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Glenny is real hard on da puck and he works hard and defends 95% of his shift which means he's reelgud. Defending is more importanter than offense. This is Blashill's line of thought. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Ott is better, sadly. 4 more years of Glendogmillionaire Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

The issue isn't that the Wings don't have players who can defend, it's the system that's the issue. It doesn't matter how good you are defensively, if all you do is defend, because your coach doesn't understand that you need to score to win, you're going to give up a lot of goals to good offensive teams. A guy like Hanzal is the last thing they need.

Do they need more third line players? Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Eaves had a good year in Carolina then had injury issues and didn't ever get healthy. When they traded for Legwand Joakim Andersson was their best healthy center. They don't make the playoffs without that deal Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Top pair D are harder to find than wingers who can score

A scout who is currently employed vs. a musician who retired a long time ago isn't close to the same thing. Most of those players, other than Ericsson, were known commodities, did nothing in the NHL, or haven't gotten there yet. Any competent scout can find guys like them. Andersson did well finding Homer, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Franzen, but people act like he's some kind of genius still when he really hasn't done anything special in a long time.
-
I'm getting a little tired of hearing about how great Hakkan Andersson is. Yeah, he got some good players who turned out to be a hell of a lot better than they were projected to be when not as many teams were investing much money scouting the backwaters of Europe. Since Franzen, who has he dug up that turned into anything special? People complain that Holland is resting on his laurels and getting a pass because of what he did years ago, why is Andersson still considered some scouting god?

I'm not really sold on Trouba. Depending on if there are other pieces involved, maybe. Straight up pick for Trouba? nope. I'd rather move Svechnikov and a second or Mantha alone for Fowler.

Vernon needed to be moved to give Osgood the clear #1 spot. Goal tending was not the reason they didn't win 3 in a row. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

This. He wants to defend defend defend. Good teams don't spend much time defending. They have the guys like AA and Mantha doing their thing putting pressure on the other team. Blashill would rather have Sheahan and Glendening spending 75% of their time in the D zone because they're "good defensively" than AA playing in the O zone because he might make a defensive mistake. Well, if you're scoring a bunch and giving up goals vs. another guy who never scores but defends well, the offensive guy gives you a net gain even with lapses defensively. I only want Vanek on one year deals. 1) he's getting old and 2) I don't think he'd continue to play as hard on a multi year deal Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

It's going to be a huge deadline. Huuuuuuuge. Biggest ever. I guarantee that it'll be so big that you won't believe it. Now excuse me, I need 3 more layers of spray tan. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Julien, Boudreau, coaches have been fired mid season. Sometimes it's a wrong fit with a team, or a knee jerk reaction by the GM trying to save his own arse.
