01/01 GDT : Red Wings vs Maple Leafs : Centennial Classic : 3:00 PM ET

Drives me nuts when players turn away from a hit they see coming. Don't be a pansy and take it, you get hurt less that way. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk Bitter from what, turning them down to go to Philly? Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk -
By your standard was Lidstrom a #1? He wasn't physical at all. How about Coffey, he won a certain trophy a couple times and wasn't close to a shut down defender Regardless you seem to be defining a #1 as elite level. I think that's far too narrow. If a guy can be trusted to play a lot of minutes in all situations, and it's not just because he plays on a crap team, he's a #1. Kronwall absolutely was a #1 before his knees were shot, even when he was behind Lidstrom. There were only 10 or 12 guys better than him league wide, especially when you realize he put up a decent point total playing second pair minutes on the second PP unit. Mantha probably doesn't play on the top line for a good team. That's kind of like arguing Mike Maroth was an ace pitcher because he was the best on the 119 loss Tigers team. But let's go with him being a top line winger. Top pair D are still more valuable and harder to find so I still move him for one without thinking twice. Mantha with 13 points in 21 games is a top line winger just because he's being used there on a team near the bottom of the standings. Folwer isn't a top D despite being used there on a playoff team with stats that back up his status.

Because 4 games doesn't wipe out a season and a half of inept play

Top pair D > second line winger Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

The difference in the standings isn't nearly as big as the difference in performance. Tatar, Nyquist, Dekeyser, Larkin, and the rest of the players in their early to mid 20s should be getting better. They're all regressing. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

There's a difference between a goalie with a 2.5 gaa( random number) who consistently allows around that average and one who had a long stretch where he was at 2.0 gaa then an equally long stretch at 3.0 gaa. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Leads Anaheim D in scoring by a wide margin, 11th in the NHL in defense scoring, 15th in TOI for D, and plays a bunch in all situations. If that's not a #1 you have a very strict definition of a #1 Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

I still don't understand how a guy who likely tops out as a second line winger is untouchable or how a #1 defenseman isn't worth trading for. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Tatar and Nyquist can both score like that under the right system. AA could be a 20 goal guy. Larkin should be a 20 goal guy. Svechnikov is a potential 25 goal scorer. Fowler isn't an elite player, but he's a damn sight better than anything else they have, h's 25 years old, is the Ducks' #1 D, and his 22 points would be second on the Wings behind Zetterberg. If Mantha brings in a guy like that, not doing it is STUPID. People want KFH to make trades and bring in good young players, but don't want to give up a good player to get them. It doesn't matter how many guys like Helm and Smith you throw into a deal, those guys won't bring anything.
-
Any move they make won't be, or at least shouldn't be, focused on this year. They have zero top pair potential d-men in the system outside of the kid they drafted last summer. Dealing Mantha for D is moving a position of strength to fill a weakness. If they can do that, it's smart. But it's KFH so either he won't do it or he'll get some 30 year old rental in a desperate attempt to save The Streak. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

who is at fault? As far as I'm concerned, it's a three headed monster. Ownership has focused on the new barn and the Tigers, Holland is just coasting, and Blashill is a moron.

Anyone have a De Lorean and a flux capacitor? We have to go back and stop Kenny from signing these guys! Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

The real issue is Holland gave him a fat contract based on a small sample size. He needed a bridge deal not what he got. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

It's more that I'm not sold on Hamilton than anything else Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

I think Dekeyser is better than he's shown, he's just playing a role that's over his head. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

That seems like a lot for Hamilton. The fact that Boston traded him and now Calgary is apparently open to moving him sends up red flags for me. Generally when a kid with that much potential is moved twice by that age, it's a bad sign.

He was fine until February. Maybe the team took him out boozing and he decided he likes it too much. It's weird that he's been crap since then. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Fire Blashill. Fire Martin. They started signing the crap contracts after they hired him to be their capologist. Put out the word that EVERYONE is available at the right price. The right price for some is a lot, but I'd move Larkin or anyone else if it meant getting a #1 D-man. Guys like Ericsson, Helm, and the rest of the bad contracts can be had for a conditional 7th. Tell the new coach that I want to see Jurco on a scoring line for at least 15 games, and I expect him to let the kids play even if they have a bad period or have some defensive issues. I want to see what the kids can do. Do a serious evaluation of the scouting staff and get rid of anyone who isn't pulling their weight. I'd focus on making sure I have the best possible scouts and pay them well.

They did that specifically for Mrazek because they worked so well together in GR. And it's not like Bedard did spectacular work.

Jimmy Howard "Out awhile" - Coreau called up (again).
DickieDunn replied to kickazz's topic in General
When Mrazek was giving up 3 or more goals every game, that's not good enough to keep the #1 job. I don't care of he was undefeated, a team isn't going to win much like that long term. Blashill is a moron in a lot of ways but his handling of the net is about the only thing I agree with him on, and I don't even thunk Howard is more than an average starter.
