They're not going to get elite talent in the expansion draft, but the league isn't going to stick them with a roster that will challenge the old Caps team for worst of all time either. As far as the teams that have struggled for years go, that's on them. Should have hired a good GM and scouts and used their high picks better. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

That video posted in the thread made it pretty clear that Bowman thought Avery as part of the Schneider deal was too much as well. Apparently Holland changed his mind later, or the other trade just plain fell through and that was their best option. 2016 Holland would never make that deal though. Can't trade away a home grown kid. At the time it was. Why is that so hard for you to understand?

Four Red Wings — Yzerman, Chelios, Shanahan and Lidstrom — even deferred part of their pay to allow the Wings to sign Hull. Believe me, you will never see the New York Yankees do that. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/columns/ted/2002-06-14.htm

Holland gets no/little credit because he wasn't GM. Andersson, Nill, and Yzerman get a lot of credit even though they weren't GM. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

It did. Everyone who paid attention to the team at the time knew about it. It was talked about in all the media. The archives aren't all that great is all. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Having a team that will be garbage for three years is a great way to build a fan base, right? Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Jimmy Howard "Out awhile" - Coreau called up (again).

Playing his #1 goalie when he got back was the proper way to handle the situation. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk -
It was widely reported at the time. Not being able to find that info this many years later doesn't mean it didn't happen. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Mrazek has allowed 3+ goals in 13 of the 19 games he's played, has a 3.06 GAA, a .899 Save % and people are mad at Blashill for not playing him more than he did before Howard got hurt when Howard has a 1.96 GAA and a .934 Save % and allowed 3+ in 4 of his 16 games. Mrazek did not start out hot. In his first 9 games, he allowed 3+ in 6 of them, including 4 goals each in a three game stretch. In fact, through the end of November he started 12 games and gave up 3+ in 8 of them. He did have one nice 4 game stretch where he gave up 7 total goals, but then gave up 4 in each of his next 4 starts. He had another nice 3 game stretch, then his last five games he gave up 3 or 4 every game. Howard has only given up 3+ in back to back games one time, those stinkers against LA and Anaheim. But yes, Mrazek is totally getting a raw deal and Blashill was playing the vet over him just because he hates Petr. -
Holland did a lot of the GM duties before officially becoming GM so Bowman could focus on coaching and things like painting locker rooms and complaining about short benches. Saying he doesn't get credit for helping build those teams is ludicrous. So is the argument that he bought any Cups. Other teams spent a ton of cash too, and did nothing. For a good stretch he was the best GM in the NHL. He's slipped though. I don't know if he got complacent, has people above him interfering with him and telling him to do things he doesn't think will work, or if he really believes that the best way to build a team is to sign a bunch of mediocre at best players to 4+ years. Regardless of the reason, he's done a bad job the last few years. Yes, every team goes through bad stretches, and the nature of pro sports is that no team stays on top forever, but his refusal to do a full rebuild is doing nothing but delay them from getting back to the top by extending the mediocre period.

The Axe is back, baby We don't need any Foote Fungus in Detroit, even if it's the spawn of the the original

When Howard is on his game he's a top flight goalie. When he's off his game he's a mediocre AHLer. Since February Mrazek isn't even that good. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk -
Which End of the Ice Do you Find Most Frustrating?

The PP is a train wreck in the middle of a dumpster fire during a s--t storm. But that's 99% on Trashill's "system." Give the team a decent PP and they're at least close to a playoff spot. -
Pretty sure KFH agrees

He might get there but right now he's not even close Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

They have Mrazek who has been playing like a career #2/boarder line NHLer, Coreau who is likley a career AHLer and... who? This team is like the Lions a few years ago, they need EVERYTHING.

Offense starts in the D zone. Bad breakout passes= bad offense. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk -
No, but you can play your way out of contention by then. This whole season defines this team. Mediocre talent being coached down two levels. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

Find a skilled player who's under 6'0" and 170 pounds who has work ethic questions, and that's the Wing' #1 target

So we just need 3 top 6 forwards, a #1 D and probably a second pair guy, and a #1 goalie Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

12/19 LGW GDT : Red Wings vs Hurricanes : GAME CANCELLED
DickieDunn replied to NerveDamage's topic in 2016-17
It's all Abdelkader's fault. He was looking for somewhere to charge his phone before the pre game skate and unplugged something in the control room.
