Because he's 32 and this is a rebuilding team
-
1) A long time ago 2) I doubt it
-
Yeah, he had a chronic base of headuphisarse
-
Larkin, Dekeyser, Chevy, and a couple firsts gets the talks started. There's no reason for those guys to be moved short of a stupid overpayment.
-
They should be traded, but this is Holland.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if he got a 3 year deal by the all star break
-
Bedard needed to go. They just need to stop using GR coaches as heir apparents and actually interview people.
-
Nyquist just flat out looks like he dgaf. I'd bench his ass.
-
That's also when his salary drops. It was never intended or expected that he finish this deal. The last few years were to drop the cap hit.
-
Mrazek looks lime a mental midget. Thought he was a future super star Vezina winner?
-
Because he's half the player he was and has a chronic bad back
-
Sprout beaten by a smarter player, Ericsson out of position

Can We Please Stop Putting Teams In Unsustainable Cities?
DickieDunn replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
Boxing and UFC are more of an event than a hockey game though. Multiple fights, and Vegas is one of the few places in the US that hosts the big names. I have no doubt that most of the seats for hockey will be sold, at least at first, but I doubt more than half of them will get used. I know for me going to a Wings game would be down the list of things I'd want to spend my money on if I was there. That's ignoring the fact that most teams get the vast majority of their money from their own fans, not visitors. How many people living there would actually be hockey fans? -

Grand Rapids wouldn't have enough support to sustain an NHL team. Too many would be Wings fans first and GR fans second. Like I've said before, Vegas is going to flop. Too many residents work nights and/or don't make a lot of money, and it's too much of an event town. People go there to gamble and party, not see a hockey game. Sure, hotels and casinos might buy a ton of season tickets and a few suites as promotional stuff, but most of them would likely to go unused. The Coyotes might work now that they're moving back to Phoenix, but it's 50-50 at best. Winnipeg I think will fail once the novelty of having "their Jets" back wears off. I think Atlanta could have worked if they had been winning, and it disgusts me how quick Buttman moved them after refusing to let the Coyotes move for years. Miami has troube supporting anyone other than the Dolphins, unless the Heat are winning, I don't see the Panthers having long term success there. The Lightning have a decent core group of fans, but they're always going to struggle too. The reality is that there aren't 30 cities with enough hockey fans to support them all. It's too much of a niche sport, and a lot, if not most, minorities think it's just a white boy sport. The other issue is that unlike basketball or soccer where you need a ball and a place to play, it's expensive to get into. Kids who play grow up to be the fans. No kids playing, not as many fans. -
Blashill isn't an NHL coach. They have no system. Every player has regressed. He's followed Babcock's lead and tries to turn players into something that they're not. Smith should never have been put solely on the PK and been forced to become a defense first defenseman. Jurco has been forced to play a grinder role. Helm has been used in a scoring role when he can't score far too much. They want Mantha, a natural shooter, to play like Homer because he's big. He allows Tatar to play like that guy in your beer league who refuses to pass to anyone because he ALMOST played in the CHL when he showed up to an open tryout. He keeps sending Sheahan out there despite him being ineffective in almost every area of the game. That's how it's partly on him and not all on management.
-
More likely that Holland takes him and everyone hates him for not being as good as his dad
-
If Zetterberg is taken in the expansion draft it will be because of the difference between his salary and cap hit.
-
Instead of making him Glendening Jr. put him with a couple guys who can score and LET HIM PLAY. None of this "Jurco played really well, that's why I'm scratching him for the next 5 games" nonsense. Don't bench him for a defensive mistake that you let Tatar and Nyquist get away with over and over.
-
Ownership philosophy changes from Cup or Bust to just make the playoffs. GM signed too many players to contracts that are too long and too much money and who can't /won't make a meaningful trade. Prospects not panning out. Players playing roles they can't handle. Coaches turning pkayers into something they're not-Helm into a scorer, Jurco into a grinder, Smith pk only with no pp time, Mantha net front presence a la Homer. Piss poor coaching.

Serious question. What other teams wanted him, what was the source of the rumors, and were the offers actually on par with what he got or was it something like he had one offer for about $3.8 a year but it was only three years, and he had a 5 dear offer for around $3 mil, etc? The only thing I heard was "other teams wanted him." That tells me nothing. For all we know, nobody else came close to what he got in Detroit, or he had 3 better offers but loves the Wings so much he really did take a discount, or his agent is the one who leaked the supposed offers, the media ran with it, and Holland panicked.

What's the point of being in the race if you have no shot at winning? High picks with good scouts often leads to success. Signing mediocre players constantly leads to mediocre results. The Blues and Hawks both had long playoff streaks that never got them the Cup. Who cares. Nobody remembers the team that got in as the 6 seed and ALMOST won a round, they all remember the champs. It wouldn't really take a full tank job anyway. If Larkin turns into anything close to his potential and AA, Mantha, and Svechnikov turn into legit top six forwards and Mrazek is close to as good as his fanboys insist, they need a couple higher end D and maybe one elite level forward.

People complain about cluttering threads with off topic stuff then complain about a new thread. So one tweet from Dreger? Teams were interested or actually made offers? I might be interested in buying a car until I find out the asking price and how far the seller is willing to drop it, doesn't mean I'm buying it.
-
Not really irrational to think it's stupid to have a checking line guy who probably would be a reserve on a good team playing on your second line. It's not like he's some kid who has a lot of upside but isn't quite ready, but they want to throw him into the fire to see how he responds.
-
who said it was a conspiracy? writers, even TSN writers, get rumors wrong all the time. I believe that there were teams interested in him, but not at 5 years for almost $4 mil a year, especially with the NTC thrown in. I'd rather win the Cup every 8-10 years and miss the playoffs a few times between wins than make the playoffs every year and not win a Cup. The Cup is the goal, not the playoffs.

There are beer league players who would be better options
