It takes a dedication to making sure your home grown.mediocre players are taken care of financially
-
You realize that when someone says that, they mean NHL caliber, right?
-
Sure it does. Datsyuk in his prime was consistently excellent. The OMG line is consistently ineffective and overmatched. McGrattan is consistently one bad mother -hush your mouth! But I'm talkin' about McGrattan! !!
-
He meant for his AHL team
-
con·sist·ent kənˈsistənt/ adjective (of a person, behavior, or process) unchanging in achievement or effect over a period of time. When you're good for 2/3 of the season and then play like a dumpster fire for a month and a half, that's not consistent play. Consistent is good for the majority of the season, except for a game here, maybe a 3 game slump there.

Name one thing Mrazek has done to prove he can bethe #1 and play well over a full season playing 60 games, much less handle 70 games. I think he'll get there, but he hasn't yet.
-
Yeah that was my point. The article talked about losing promising young players.
-
But but but..... Miller and G Money are the bestest ok guys EVER and Ott is awesome because he pisses guys off! But what promising young players were waived for them? I just saw Callahan Frk and Pulk.
-
Nothing is going to get Zetterberg back to close to the player he was. He is what he is.
-
Mrazek is still fairly shiny and new. Give him til the end of the year and he'll have almost as many detractors as Howard and Osgood before him.
-
But is Mrazek really the #1? Both were excellent last year for a stretch and both were hot garbage for a stretch. I haven't seen anything to say he's for sure the better goalie right now. Regardless, having your starter play in 50-55 games is ideal. Keeps him busy but doesn't burn him out.

By the time these guys get waived, the team has seen them in practice and games for several years. Just because they haven't been given 14 minutes a might on a scoring line in the NHL for 20 games doesn't mean they weren't given a chance, or they weren't properly evaluated, or anything else that's been said when the Wings have lost Netrasil, Ferraro, Pulk, Frk, etc. You can see how a guy skates in practice to see he isn't fast enough. You can see how hard he works and competes to determine he's not good enough. You can look at film of a player's AHL goals and see that an NHL caliber defense wouldn't have given him the time to shoot, or that an NHL goalie probably wouldn't have left that hole open. As far as trading them goes, what value can they possibly have when virtually every team in the league has fringe players like them? Just because a GM is willing to take a guy for free doesn't mean he'd give up an asset for it. Would you trade a pick for these guys if you knew you could get them for nothing? http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/player-bio/andrew-miller-40149 http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/player-bio/emerson-etem http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/player-bio/ben-smith

I'd go play at home instead

Both
-
No, just.... no
-
Yup. But Holland would just use the cap space for another bad deal.
-
They haven't played as well as the record indicates. If it wasn't for goaltending bailing them out they ccould easily have one or two wins.
-
IIRC Vernon was Bowman's guy and Holliand thought Ozzie was better, and he was.
-
NHL caliber. Lots of guys get a cup of coffee. Doesn't make them NHL players.
-
Because none of them are NHL players
-
So is that supposed to be an alternative to LCA? This is way worse.
-
That's two. you need more than that to win. They haven't gotten the guys like Datsyuk and Zetterberg late for a long time, or even guys like Homer. I don't remember the last time they drafted a guy who really exceeded expectations. I know fans like to think that getting all those players in the mid to late rounds was some kind of drafting genius, but the reality is that it was a lot of luck. For every Datsyuk or Homer, there are a lot of Rynos and Hat trick Dicks. The rest of the league has caught up to them in scouting Europe, which was their only tangible advantage, and you can't count on luck.
-
what's the point of moving him if you take back a deal that's as bad or worse?
-
Building through the draft doesn't work if you don't draft top end talent.

Mantha needs to be in Detroit
