If a player us claimed, then the team that claimed him wants to waive him, they have to offer him back to his original team for free, and they're our the 50k or whatever the waiver claim fee is. And before anyineI says it, no that's the same as one of us being out five bucks. $50k is $50k, and businesses have a budget down to the dollar. They're not going to be happy throwing that money away. -

The question was what's he done to make a team claim him on waivers knowing they'd need to keep him on their roster for the entire seaon. Solid AHL play doesn't do that. He's not that big and he still doesn't have a good first couple steps. Virtually every team has players of his caliber in their system, if they wanted something like thst, they'd just use their own player. -

To play the style he plays, you need to be big or fast. He's neither. Although he has decent goal numbers, his overall production looks a lot like an AHL version of Clarkson, meaning he does nothing to help drive possession. There is zero indication that he's better than anyone in Detroit. -

If he's so good why has his former coach who always praised him not given him a shot? -

Good play gets you a call up. Solid doesn't unless it's just a temporary injury replacement -

except you do give up assets. Wings can not offer 8 years. It would cost 4 first round picks. Trouba isn't worth close to $8 mil. There's a good chance he'll nevrr be worth that. They have zero cap room which would mean clearing $8 mil. Who do they have that makes relatively significant money that doesn't have a ntc and team would want? Dekeyser and Nyquist. Know what kind of value Holland would get for them with teams knowing he was stuck? Diddly. So in reality it would cost Dekeyser, Nyquist, and four firsts for the privilege of significantly overpaying a defenseman and maybe a couple mid rounds picks. -
At this point Quincey is going to have to take what he can get, probably have to wait for an injury or a team to decide a prospect isn't ready.

One, they could only offer seven years. Two, $8 mil for Trouba is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. -
I think he thought he'd get about what he got last year and missed out on the frenzy. Then teams looked at their prospects and cheap vets. A couple guys like him get stuck every year.

I can't believe this is still up. Even the hot women t he was at the new rwc doesn't allow beaver shots, and that place is like the wild west

Fowler isn't a top pair defensman despite playing on Anaheim's top pair at 24 and he won't ever get any better than he is. But Dekeyser can get a lot better than he is now even though he's two years older. -

I'd move Dekeyser for Trouba in a one for one swap, because as GM I'd be rebuilding and in 3 years a 25 year old Trouba would be more valuable to me than a 29 year old Dekeyser if he comes close to his ceiling. -

It's never going to happen. Our genius GM hasn't moved a significant roster player in 15 years, and that happened when an all time great goalie was practically giftwrapped for him -

Trouba gets 6, leaving 600k to replace Helm. Not enough. That also ignores the fact that Helm has a NTC, and the Jets are more likely interested in a top 6 caliber center, not Helm. Intangibles are only worth so much, and don't make someone a core player without production to go with it. -

No, he's not, despite the insistence that "his speed alone is worth $3 mil a year" by some people. -

Third pair d, third line center, second tier prospect, another prospect the organization has talked down, and a second doesn't touch Trouba. It also doesn't clear enough cap to sign Trouba. That's if Helm waives his NTC -

Kronwall spent most of his best years behind Lidstrom, getting second PP second pairing minutes and still put up some pretty good numbers. The fact that they could put him and Stuart on the second pair is what made them so hard to play against. As far as Trouba goes, if they want a center, offer up AA as part of the deal. Of course we all know Holland won't do anything that involves trading someone who isn't a fringe NHLer or an unhappy prospect. The last time he traded a good roster player was the Hasek deal when he moved Kozlov all the way back in '01. -

If you want to make a trade to get a guy lime Trouba, you're probably going to have to include one of those guys. That shouldn't be a deal breaker. Potential second line forward for potential top pair D, or even potential top line winger if you're really hyping one of them, the top pair D is still more valuable, and there are none in Detroit's system. They have plenty of top six forwards though. You trade from an area of abundance to get something you lack.
