Nyquist Larkin Zetterberg Tatar AA Abdelkader Mantha Sheahan Vanek Jurco Glendening Miller Pulkkinen Aubrey Bertuzzi Frk Callahan and whoever else can fight for the last 3 spots. They're not going to win the Cup with what they have now, might as well let the kids play. -

Developing young players by giving mediocre vets long term deals and keeping them from making the NHL when they deserve a legit shot? -
With all the contracts that are "just a little too much" the team has about $6 mil+ in wasted money. Minimum.

That would require him to trade a roster player, so pretty unlikely. -

The problem with paying guys just a little too much is if you do it with several players it adds up. If you give 8 players an average of 700k too much, that's $5.6 million you don't have if a top end player comes available. -

Darren Helm third line center is solid, but overpaid by close to a million a year. Darren Helm scoring line winger sucks. -
Are they getting a new GM? Because Holland doesn't do that trading thing
-
If he gets a couple concussions or starts playing like a pansy it could be

Signed Glendening signs 4-year, $1.8m AAV extension

The team would score more if they had a legit top line and top D pairing. They don't, they have a bunch of second line quality forwards and second pair quality defensemen and a coach who overuses some of them in the wrong situations. Add a GM who won't part with any of that second tier talent and you get the current Red Wings . -
Same with Wallin. Broke his leg badly and never recovered
-
Unless he gets significantly better, if he's the cornerstone of the defense, the team is screwed
-
If a 4th line plays as much as a second line, wouldn't that make them a second line?
-
May was brought in to be a spare forward to play if they needed a goon, hard to call him a bust

I tried to make a trade, but nobody would give me a good player for Pulkkinen and a 5th rounder pick so I couldn't. - Ken Holland -

It's nonsense to demand over $4 mil per for 7 years after one 20 goal season, but it didn't stop Holland from giving that deal out. -

Glendening is at best a mediocre pk guy. If he was matched up against second and third line players he'd be fine, but Trashill keeps putting his line against guys like Crosby and Ovechkin and they usually get dominated by the stars. -
Hudler and the Wings both let it go to arbitration so that he'd be locked into coming back to Detroit.

Setting the next GM up for failure? -
Helm's big advantage on the defensive zone is his speed allows him to get the puck out once he has it on his stick. Glendening can't do that. Of course, once Helm does get the puck out of the zone, he has no clue or ability to do much offensively, which is what makes his contract so bad.

It depends on how long you play. Datsyuk was late coming over, I don't think that 1000 point mark should apply. Did Neely hit 1000?
-
He was voted the best Russian, ahead of Malkin and Ovechkin, in 13 and was widely regarded as one of the top 3 players from the 04-05 lockout until injuries started showing him down. Announcers on national broadcasts generally called him arguably the best because of his defense, and most people agree he'd have scored a lot more if he had wanted to.
-
Crosby Malkin and Ovechkin scored more. Datsyuk was still the better player.
-
Datsyuk was the best forward in the NHL for a few years, he should get in. Pretty weak candidates overall though.

I ignore facts because they say I'm wrong. If a player gives up a lot of shots and goals against relative to players who play a similar role, how is he good defensively?
