Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread
DickieDunn replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Comparing him as a top 6 winger to third line centers is an apples to oranges comparison. He's so good at center he hasn't been used there in 2 years -

So you're sure the evidence is there, you just don't have it. First, TBTLC would actually have to center the third line, which he hasn't done since shortly after Babs dubbed him that. He was an unproductive second line winger until Blash moved him to Glendening's wing last year. -

Where's the actual evidence that Helm is the best 3rd line center in the NHL? Other than Babcock saying it. -
Signed Glendening signs 4-year, $1.8m AAV extension

He's an average 4th liner treated like he's a good one. Babs and Blash both rake a guy who works hard or they like fir some other reason and push this idea that they're better than they really are and play them in situations they shouldn't and Kenny says well his role us this, let's pay him for that regardless of his actual performance -
Should any of #91, #13, #40, #30 be retired? Poll/Discussion

Datsyuk was the best all around forward in the NHL in his prime years. He should get it. -
The moves Holland as been making aren't geared towards winning the Cup, they're geared towards just making the playoffs and keeping the band together. If a GM can't move on from guys like Helm and Miller, who can he move on from?

He is a good pk player, but that's all, and Blashcock insists on playing him on a scoring line, which causes issues. -

I think the lack of short handed goals is as much higher a result of the play it safe and don't take risks strategy of Babs and Blash. They need to turn some of these guys loose instead of making them play like robots. -

Anyone who thinks Mantha or AA has a chance of making the opening night roster barring injuries hasn't been paying attention for the last 7 years -

Helm's stone hands would kill that line's production. Of course, they'll kill any line's production. -

Getting Fowler would require Uncle Kenny to trade one of his boys, he'll never do it. -

They can't become good nhl players if Holland blocks them from playing because of Helm and Glendening -

Holland won't trade him because he's Ken Holland and trading is hard Holland names all of his pawns and just can't bring himself to lit Bradley die in battle -
Signed Glendening signs 4-year, $1.8m AAV extension
DickieDunn replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
The issue isn't necessarily about Glendening, it's about having several young forwards who are at least potentially NHL players in the next 2-3 years and Holland handing out 4 year or more contracts to guys who could easily be replaced and refusing to trade anyone else because it's hard. -

Draper was a good shut down defender. The grind line wasn't constantly penned in the D zone like Glendening and Miller are. Just because he defends all the time doesn't mean he's a shut down center. And nobody is going to trade for a guy like Glendening., especially at that cap hit -

Glendening is a plug. He's easily replaceable. Now they're stuck with him even if he gets passed by a bunch of younger guts because nobody will want him in a trade -

We have a lit if good young forwards in the minors and juniors, so I'm going to give a bunch of mid and low keep NHL players long term deals so the kids can't make the team. - Ken Holland -

Very few teams carry 8 D for more than a few games here and there. Helm's contract guarantees him a top 9 spot, so unless they waste Sheahan on the 4th line there's no room for Mantha or AA. Holland won't keep them to play on the 4th line.
