Frk is a one dimensional winger who isn't effective outside of a very specific role. Bertuzzi might be a good 3rd line winger. Neither are bad players and both can be valuable role players, but if trading either or both as part of a package brings in a good young center or D, then you don't hesitate.

Howard for Halak straight up doesn't make sense. If they can bring in Halak and a pick or prospect, that would be something to consider. At best Howard is going to be around 3 more years, they need a long term plan in net. As much as I question if Mrazek is that answer, giving him the majority of the starts the rest of this year is probably the smart move. If Mrazek craps the bed, they an try to re-sign Halak for next year and have an extra asset out of the bargain.

It depends on the return. If both of them bring in 2nd round picks or good prospects, that will be more valuable for the team by the time they're contenders than keeping them will be. If the return is just a mid round pick or two, or mid level prospects, you keep them.

1/14 GDT - Red Wings @ Blackhawks - 12:30 PM EST (NBC)

By keep him, do you mean not trade him or get him back over the summer in free agency? Because not trading him would be stupid. Good game, glad to see Mrazek play well. Chicago looked like they were already on break, Detroit took advantage. -
I can't see any way Mrazek comes back. They'd have to give him a raise on a contract he's not earning to retain his rights.
-
Vegas' record is insane. What impresses me is that they're doing it with a lot of younger guys and not just loaded up on vets like the Panthers did early on.
-
Duclair is a smallish winger who can put up points but isn't good defensively. Wings need a center and 2 defensemen, and if they get a winger they need one with size who plays a power game. He might be talented, but he's not what they need.

It's ESPN talking about hockey, it's not going to make a lot of sense. I can't see the Wings moving back to the western conference, even though I would like more games against the Blues and Hawks.

that was a nasty slapper to the head, hope he's ok. There was contact against Mrazek, but I don't think that it was the reason the puck went in

Should any of #91, #13, #40, #30 be retired? Poll/Discussion

Did they seriously retire Hedge Duck's number? -

If the Wings did the Pistons way, Probert, Shanny, Chelios, Hasek, Murphy, Larionov, Fedorov, Konstantinov, Kozlov, Osgood, Vernon, Draper, McCarty, Maltby, Kocur, Hull, Robitaille, Lapointe, Homer, Brownov, Franzen, Rafalski, and probably even Dandenault would have their numbers retired and the guys would be stuck with numbers like 38, 49, and 63 now. -

Chelios played here longer than Chicago I doubt OIsgood gets it. The team appears to be warming up to Fedorov a bit, so it will probably happen. Datsyuk and Zetterberg should go up together. Just for the love of God don't do what the Pistons did and retire half the championship teams. -
I wonder if Holland really believes it or if he's just saying it so it doesn't sound like he's given up on the season The only reason they should be playing Mrzek more than Howardis because they need to give up on the season and play the kids more, even if the vets are better. That's how young players learn. And who knows, maybe Mrazek actually starts playing good and they can trade him while he has value.
-
I just don't think the league would be ok with them parking in on LTIR if it wasn't verified as a legitimate condition that would seriously harm his health.
-
I'm actually on board the play Mrazek at least every other game train. Either he continues to suck, which helps draft positioning, or he actually gets his game back (unlikely IMO). Either way it's a win-win. The only reason to keep playing Howard is if you think that they actually have a shot at the playoffs, and that it would be a good thing to go for it. That would be a mistake.
-
No, his contract slides to next year
-
Not at 9th overall
-
Doesn't mean it wasn't a legitimate condition. I'm pretty sure the NHL wouldn't have let it go otherwise
-
He can't go to GR until his junior team is done for the year. Otherwise every kid that was drafted would want to play pro and get paid instead of playing in juniors for whatever stipend they get

Do you see a lot to be positive about this team, other than a few young forwards? BAD: Bad GM Bad coach Terrible defense with little help in sight One goalie is getting old, the other is young and looks like a complete flop. Good: Mantha Larkin AA (if he develops his game the way Larkin did since last year) Svechnikov (if this year is just a sophomore slump) Bertuzzi looks like he could be a good complimentary player, the type you need to win
-
Pens actually outplayed them most of the game. Still, a win is a win.

Hossa had been dealing with it for awhile, it got worse.

Vegas making the Finals in year one would be interesting
