Yeah there is no way burns gets traded unless the sharks are cleaning house, but even then I think he'd be someone they keep for his versatility alone. And wideman would work, but I have the asking price has to be stupid because his names been in trade rumors a lot and nothings been done yet, same thing with Greene.

Lucic has a meltdown as Bruins get smacked by Habs...again

If Sean Avery was as skilled as looch then there's be teams willing to put up with his bull. But I agree. He's out of hand, and I find it appalling that he keeps getting slaps on the wrists instead of any substantial punishment.... Which is why hell keep doing it. Whats his incentive not to? -
The only reason I can think people would want to break them up right now was If they're not actually watching them play, and just looking at the stat line.I get that they seem like the clear cut choice to replace with someone like pulkkinen, but if they keep playing the way they are there is absolutely no reason to change the makeup of that line. Injuries would pose a new problem with it, then I could see trying a scorer on one of the wings, but they're getting quality chances while shutting down top lines, which means our three scoring lines get more favorable assignments. And The only way kindl and Weiss would get us a top 4 d man is if that package included a high pick and/or one of our d prospects, and wed have to eat salary. And weiss' value is so low right now, It'd be best just to let him get back into the flow of things enough to where we wouldnt be stuck paying half his salary just to get someone to take him. He willget better, he may not be what he once was, but his value is at an all time low right now. I really hope he bounces back into the second line center he was supposed to be, or at least becomes serviceable, Cuz that contract would handcuff us pretty damn bad in the future if he doesn't work out at all. Maybe if the injuries affected him so much for the future that we could stash him on ltir, ala pronger and philly. But I don't see the league doing that again... unless they planned to hire weiss, and he hasn't been important or dirrty enough to make him an asset in player safety, so I dont think that's an option. Every game ive went to, be it lions, tigers, wings, or even the toledo storm(walleye) There's always at least one butthole peeing in the sink. And the Toledo sports arena was one of, if not the darkest and dankest, grungiest, and most poorly built arena I've ever been in. Even the home locker room was tiny, the visitors was so small there was at least five kids/young men literally getting dressed standing in their own bags, and the bathroom wasn't connected to the room so If you had to go before you were fully suited up you walked half nekked past the concessions to get there, and one of the locker rooms was so far away from one that you walked around a quarter of the building to get there.. The ice was always soft, the benches had splinters big enough to Pierce through gloves, and the penalty box was so effing small there wasn't room to have someone man the door if there happened to be two or more people in the box. Insulation and other random debris would fall out of the rafters, And no joke, the ice in the corners were so bad, sometimes there would literally be a gap so big between the ice surface and the kick plate that play had to be stopped to dig the puck out by hand. You had to be carefuk going behind the nets not to get too close to the boards because your skate blade would get caught in the moat mid stride. Ha. I know the Joe is no gem, or architectural marvel, but comparing it to that frozen trash heap, is kind of insulting. Not to mention the seats were basically kid sized wooden lawn chairs that were Bolted to the floor.

I was just thinking something to that effect. If theyre not playing every other day I get antsy, I was looking at the schedule and it seems all out of whack. At the end of the month theres a stretch of four days without hockey, and in the middle of November theres a five day break, and its not for thanksgiving. -
Dan Rosen Pens a Great Piece on Babcock's Coaching Tree
jimmyemeryhunter replied to Dabura's topic in General
I agree you do whatever it takes to keep him, but blashill has more to do with the development and preparation of the kids.I'd honestly be okay if ilitch threw the checkbook to babs and blashill just to keep the system stable and on this course.give babs a little more power, like assistant or co-gm, or just add another fancy word like executive blahblah that way he's not just a head coach making a players wage. Blashill is the extension of Babcock that has made our kids transition so smooth. They have the same systems in place, he expects the same out of his guys, they're, IMO, the best pro coach/minor team coach tandem in sports. They compliment each other perfectly, and I'd really like to keep it together. Even if blashill ends up making the salary of an average NHL hc, its not like coaches $counts against the cap. And in today's game its becoming glaringly obvious that the minor league affiliate is crucial to the teams success, but the hC gig in the big league is probably too appealing for him, honestly. But it'd be awesome if he would just take the pay raise to stay on with gr. -
When your fourth line is going against the oppositions top line and generating steady pressure against them, you have a good thing. They don't need to light it up, theyre not supposed to be scorers, secondary scorers, or even need to be tertiary scoring. They just need to chip in everynow and then, which if they continue to play the way they are, they will score some.

I didnt say chara wasnt good, or had fallen off so drastically he wasnt good, i was just stating he lost a step. Which he has. You said agreed on Thornton like you were disagreeing with everything else I said, but you kind of just went into more detail with the same general concept I started with. so yeah. Agreed. I do expect them to get back to being a good team, but they're worse than last year. And the injuries will catch up to him, as well as the amount of games they've been playing over the years. They're still realgud. They can still be contenders, but theyve gotta right the ship pretty quickly and stop all this nonsense. How many times has lucic came out and apologized for his antics, onlyto do something stupid again, and again. They got rid of seguin because of his off ice shenanigans, what's the excuse for looch? -
Ha. Yeahhh. Gelinas. But I thought the same thing, 22, too was just too perfect. I didn't like seeing him in a different number.
-
But miller and Andy are huge reasons that our pk is perfect. And the fourth line has been amazing. I'd much rather see Jurco here, but in all honesty, more time in gr could do wonders for him. I think they'll have to waive cleary, because something tells me someone would claim nestrasil. At least, I hope they'd waive cleary. Nestrasils not great, but he's muchhh better than danny, and he's only going to get better. I'd hate to lose him for nothing. He's made some mistakes, but he's big, strong, decently fast, heavy on the puck, and he's really good along the boards.
-
Yeahhhh. In no way would I move smith at this point. He's had a few fairly noticeable miscues, but he's getting so much better so fast for a d-man. You can't trade his potential with our number one defenseman on the wrong side of 30. And Howard could be too valuable, Especially as a mentor to Petr. With the way the teans playing, I'm only kicking one or two of the tires at this point. Because I like our team. Smh.

Was anyone else just flat out amazed with the speed of the young guns through ot? Like that bubble battle at the end of last year, and our bs in the shootout just isn't acceptable to them. Tats holding the puck fir his entire shift before it gets broken up, then makes the play backchecking. Brendan smith with his jersey flapping in the breeze as he skates the puck end to end. Then sheahan showing beautiful speed and throwing some moves showing gorgeous hands. I'm really excited about our mission of guys. There's room for improvement, but the kids are alright. That's for damn sure. -

If helm stays healthy though, he is also a really, really good third line center. But if he stays injury prone, then we have a five million dollar center who should be our third best center. And at this point, we probably would get more for helm than Weiss. Who was it that wanted helm last year for a d man? And I do see the comparison between helm in his first years playoffs holding onto the puck for almost a minute on the pk and lg. But glendeinng hasn't had that series defining moment, where he's literally changing the game. That alone makes me pray helm can stay skating, if he does, and we make a trade and show some consistency, this team could be scary good. -

Like I get it, you wish he'd score once for every five chances he creates for himself, but he's not a scorer. How many other teams have a fourth line center that you can send out against other teams top lines and they'll Go and control the play, and create scoring chances. Put pulks on his line a year down the road, or anyone else who can finish and well be rolling four scoring lines with a shutdown/energetic touch. I wish he had a good scorers touch to go along with his grit, speed, toughness, heart, Compete level, and leadership, but if he did, we wouldn't be able to pay him what hell make for the rest of his career. And. He's loyal to Michigan... Oh yeah. He's still so very young. I can see what Babcock loves about him. -

Another soliddddddddddd game by Glendenning. Anyone else willing to admit babs was right about that little spark plug? And please. No jokes or puns because I used the word plug. Because dude is legit one of the best fourth line centers around. -
Babcock dug the dog a basement and hid Weiss in the cellar. How many games before this did any of our players play less than ten minutes? Ha. But honestly. We have team speed. And a half. It hard jumping into game speed after a few games, let alone years worth of games. So who knows. It could get better, could get worse. I'm hoping substantially better. It does show how good our system/team is though. And that I'm kind of happy with.

Boston is in the same situation (to a much lesser extent) that we were the last few years with lidstrom. The main difference is charas nowhere near as good as lids was, so now that is game is falling off its more noticeable to the success of the team. They lose boychuck(we lost RAF) and all of the sudden their stellar d is turning average. The wings had much more skill though. And were more disciplined. I think its taking chara longer to get back into game shape, and yes clearly lost a step. And whether you think thornton helped them our not last year Their "team toughness" has definitely declined. Theyre going to be screwwd when chara retires. -

The only thing I can say about the Joe, is there isn't a bad seat in the house. And I've skated on the ice multiple times. Oh damn. I guess I am sentimental about it. Well... ****
