So i was lookin around on some other boards to see what people were saying about the whole roster crunch were going to have to do and this name got brought up. From the same town as datsyuk. Dreams of playing with him. http://www.russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2014/01/08/fedor-malykhin-the-next-big-european-free-agent-signing/#more-58133
-
Im assuming he's stuck in Russia for a bit. Not the worst thing to happen to a young guy, maybe hell still come over for datsyuks swan song. Its ridiculously hard to dig up anything on him, Wheres rusdrw?

I'm just hopeful well have some change on the back end.
-
Aside from the prospect rankings what makes me think Sprouls ahead of him is that he's still om the roster, and Sprouls been sent down. That seems counter intuitive but the way I'm thinking is they want sproul healthy for the ahl season, and want him playing as many minutes down there to groom him for a larger role. I'm thinking they're showcasing Jensen for a trade because what would be the reasoning behind keeping him here and not Sproul, unless Jensen's moved passed him. Which seems unlikely. And maybe they don't plan on keeping him as the number seven, I know they've said lash and kindl aren't fighting for jobs but maybe theyve played their way out of security. or maybe they don't think he's going to turn into anything more than a bottom pairing d man, he is our 14th rated prospect ( how much of that was affected by his injury well never know) so theyre keeping him up planning on bringing him in the way lashoff was, just a right handed option instead of him or kindl and if he surprises and develops into more then awesome. And there's talk of trades from kh and I know he says something similar every year, but they've gotta get something done if they plan on bringing these guys in to see what they've got. I think last year shocked them when they realized what they had in sheahan, and less shocked but still surprised with Nyquist. These guys were getting called up and filling in beautifully, they're ready made for the big club, they come in knowing the system better than they expect (blashill could just be that damn good at preparing them) Id like to think they learned the lesson that they need to see what these guys can do in the big club before losing them for nothing. (Ala Adam almquist)

What do you think about him dominator?
-
He has been regressing. If he was showing signs of improvement you'd think he'd be more than a 6th guy, no matter what quarrels he had with his coach. And burke isnt exactly known for making smart choices. I havent watched enough of him to say he's beyond fixing, but he's a 3rd pairing d man with a 3.6m dollar cap hit. He's still young enough to think the change of scenery would help, along with better coaching/some mentoring but that's alottttt of money to spend on another project. He is a right handed shot but we've got a few of those that look readyto make the jump and will be cheap. If we could get Luke and brayden out of it im sure thered be someway to work it out, kind/lash/q would have to go the other way to make take up the space in case he does flame out and they're not exactly in the best cap position so as not an option, and braydens playing on their top line, so who knows what wed have to give up for the combo. I think we do need to trade away some of our mid level guys for a higher tier guy, but getting Luke wouldn't help us there right now, at least not anymore than marchenko sproul or possibly even Jensen now since he's still up. Some things gotta happen. And idk if he's disliked or what. He had even +/-last season, and he seems to putup decent enough numbers, but he kinda seems like another square peg when were trying to fill a round hole. honestly. I could be wrong. I haven't studied the guy or nothing, you've probably seen as much as me of him, but if were going to bring on another project, I just feel like we need to be doing it from grand rapids considering the logjam were about to have on d.

And McCarty was supposed to protect people, but near the end of the line there, the people he was there to protect had enough respect around the league he didn't have to do much. Aside from the draper lemieux incident, but Claude was one of those dirty agitators, skilled, but a cheap shot artist. I even miss brad may. He went out there to hit, and when people charged him or people he dropped the gloves. But even he had friends and other fighters who he'd go out there with the intention to fight certain people, the last few honorable dudes who had the job to bring energy, and he did it. Its the oddest form of camaraderie and I loved it. -

I loved the grind line because they were so amazingly balanced for abottom 6 line. Noones going to mistake any of them for Gretzky. But McCarty was tough as hell, and had decent hands. Draper was fast as sh*t and was amazing on the draw, and malt by was a big body who could chip in goals and was gritty. All were Amazing forecheckers. I'm not anti fighting, by any means. I just think its being fazed out, for good reason, honestly, but when were in those games where everything's chippy and getting dirty it was nice to have those guys who would stop it. I was a fan of the leg wand move just for that reason, he wasn't dirty or the best fighter, but when you werethrowing cheap shots he didn't take it. There most likely will never be another Brendan shanahan, and Brett hull was way too damn strong for his stature, and there's no way to find that skill with that grit, even people comparable today would cost wayyyy to much. Just look at the deal Callahan signed, he's nowhere near as skilled as shanny, has nowhere near the shot of hull, and would get destroyed by either one of those guys in a fight, but he got paid. I like old school hockey, but I love the skilled game. The sad truth is when you find fighter types they don't last long in the league because of injuries and the new wave of these guys don't seem to have the same code the dying breed lived by. That's why I'm okay with us not bringing in a goon. There's almost no respect anymore, I get helping your team win by anymeans necessary, but after the old bouts you'd always see a guy nod his head or pat the other guy on the pads for keeping it clean. Its gotten too dilluted for my taste, and id love for that to change, but sadly I don't see that happening. But to the guys who are out to stand up for their teammates, and aren't just goons bringing nothing else to the table, will always have my respect. Its great to see people passionate about the game, and I think the lucic types are the closest thing were going to see in the future. Dirty, cheap shots, who you'd love to have on your team, butcouldnt respect even if they were. Tanner glass type "agitators." -
I feel like wed Waste assets getting him here and he'd end up being our seventh. Or he comes over and gets beat out by a kid with higher potential. Then only thing he brings that we don't have is the physicality, which is something we need, but I don't see us using it very well. Ala too too. I get he's on the back end, but he's not a top four guy offensively or defensively. He's shown flashes but nothing to merit giving up something that'll be better for. He could just need a change of scenery, sure, but i don't think he fills any holes we can't fill from within. He is a good hitter.

I loved the line where he was challenged by carkner You stick up for your teammates. Ive been on his side many times, and I didnt want to turn him down. You kind of respect him sticking up for his teammates."It always astounds me how well mannered and respectful these guys are, they know they're a dying breed and generally speaking they're the most honorable dudes on the ice. Things like that are why I fell in love with the game, I love football, but hockey always seemed to show the best of respect in competition. And they need to sign someone who can take on the fighting for him. Its only a matter of time before these guys start showing signs of cte, and all the other health problems that come along with multiple concussions. -

I don't think they do yet. I'm sure they'll get on it soon but who knows. There was rumor of a TV station that was going to air gryffins games, so I'd assume its only a matter of time before the red wings have their own stream site for them and their affiliates. -
So Jensen's been playing at a high level, the other night he had 20+minute toi, And he survived the first round of roster cuts. Anyone have any inside info or opinions on whether or not they're thinking about keeping him up? I mean, a right handed shot completely changes the dynamic on our blue line. Theres been trade speculation and all that, what's everyone thinking? I known hell most likely be sent down soon after the preseason, but, I was thinking they might be trying to show him off to use as trade bait. They already sent down Sproul, so unless they plan to keep him upas the number 7 I'm thinking they're choosing Sproul over him for long term plans. I could just be reading too much into it, and they're keeping him here to fill out the roster for the remainder of preseason, ive just loved his play so far, he's silky, and hasn't made any huge mistakes that I've seen.

I've been excited about him since I seen his first highlight video. Its hard to say hell be a top six guy, but I think hell be in the next round of callups. Speed like his is too damn valuable these days, and to be able to think faster than he skates to make some of the moves he pulls off is a rare talent. I've got my fingers crossed that hell take a huge leap in development in gr this season. Also. Has anyone else noticed the wildly inconsistent posting of his height/weight? Or has anyone seen any reliable info on it? I've seen him listed as 6',6'1'' 6'2 and 200lbs. I'm assuming going off of the red wings prospect page as being reliable, they have him at 6'2 193, but at one point his junior team had him at 215. I'm just wondering how big he actually is, so can anyone who seen him live for the training camp/preseason give any reference to his size?

Huge guy with a short fuse. Go get him. Let's keep the other teams honest. Haha

Holy hell. 2 seasons ago I paid the $99 for gcl and I didn't renew last year because it was cheaper for me to just get cable. Since I'm not renewing from last year I'm no longer eligible to use the renew price. And wtf is with those blackout restrictions? NHL getting greeeeeedddy. -

I was on bleacher report and seen this article, its actually a pretty good read for a hockey article on bleacher report. http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2204990-concussion-prone-ryane-clowe-knows-he-should-give-up-fighting-but-he-cant -

I want roulette, Sproul, and Jensen (ormarchenko) to be our fifth, sixth, and seventh. Pipe dreams. Edit: to include Sproul and marchenko And also to say, that when they started to struggle, wed probably be in hell. -

I definitely tjink hes good, really good, hes just made a few bad plays, and whwn pressured he seems jumpy. He hasn't looked horrible though, he's physical and made his share of good plays that pass that lead to the breakaway was awful, but hell get it. Im kind of thinking Jensen sproul and marchenko look so good because were not used to seeing right handers on that side of the ice, so compared to what were used to seeing it looks easier because it is. Ha. Jensen is just looking flat out good though. -

Nosek could turn into something more...He looked good until that last shift, when he missed the net with a wide open look, then made that stupid hit that got him kicked out. I'm liking what I'm seeing from nestrasil. -

Always old school xym, always. And Jensen just looks smooth. They keep saying how oulettes our most nhl ready defenseman but the mistakes he's made are the type that would make me worry about him against all NHL competition. I know the learning curve for d is steep, but Jensen and marchenko look a lot calmer, but I could just be noticing them more because the right handed shots. -

Smith looks like a different player, I mean i still expect him to make a few boneheaded plays every now and then, but I don't cringe every time he has the puck in our own end. On the earlier pk, he skated the puck out himself with two guys chasing when there was no clear outlet pass, and as soon as he got into traffic he shot it down. Callahan looks a lot better than I expected him to, but for the most part hes out there against ahlers. And Jesus mrazek. That little behind the back of the boards bank perfectly on the D's stick. I want him in net just because he relieves some of the pressure on our d from the forecheck. -

If jimmy keeps struggling, Mrazek looks like he could be the guy now. The kid is effin smooth, and that pass to center ice reminded me a bit of the way Brodeur used to slide up the ice and push the play. Lemme hear them bodies talk.
