You know somethings wrong when they call a crap penalty after Mick says its coming. Cuz thats part of what bettman calls "parity."

Abby may not have the best hands, but he's smart. He's been the Karate kid lately, not gonna score in space so he goes to splitthe d, takes their attention while having the presence of mind to open his legs so the shot will be screened.

Kronwall has played like garbage, they were saying between periods that theyd throw his name in for best defenseman. When's the last time you seen a #1 d give up 3 shots to one guy.

Well. I believe it does, considering there seems to be a lot off forwards on our team that are here/deserve to be here. And they chose him over eaves because eaves injury history, who has been healthy. Awesome shot dd.

    Lines Thread

I don't think hes hurt, I think baba just finally realized having speed is more important in today's game then good hands. If he was hurt we would've heard something about it.

    Injury Updates

Would you rather he go into the olympics at 70% and comes out hobbled, and hurting, then kills himself getting us into the playoffs? Anyway you look at it its smart, he gets much deserved rest and he's getting healthy for the end of the season start of the playoffs which is when we need him most. Plus he gets back into gameshape playing on the big ice skating more gives him more room to test out some crazy dangles. I wont be worried if he doesnt play before the Olympics. It's pavel effin datsyuk.

    Is it 1970 again?

I'm right there with you, were transitioning kind of well given the amount of changes were going through, keep the playoff streak alive while retooling and the wings brass will be back in the conversations of the best front office ever.but this is a doom and gloom thread. Were in the wrong place.

    The Hudler Factor

I'm with rick on this. Fil was always one I had high hopes for, I was a little sad to see him go, and never cared for hudler. I met him when I played for belle tire, he was goofy as hell, and kind of an ass, he wouldn't sign my practice jersey. And flames fans are crazy. I was on a flames board lookin to see what they thought of cammaleri and they said jurco, sheahan, aand someone else were fourth borderline 3rd line players.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Once again. In regards to buying out weiss. His contract was signed after the new CBS was so we cant use our compliance buy out on him, and a regular buy out would stretch his cap hit for 8 yrs, at around $2m a year, aside from two years in the middle where it'll only count a bit under $1m. Just a reminder.

    NHL may rethink Sochi

I dont see them reneging on the Olympics, especially so close to the opening ceremonies. And honestly, I could slap a Russian constriction sign on 75% of Detroit, Take a picture, and you'd swear I were in an active war zone.... Or pripyat.

    Official Detroit Lions thread

All younger innovative guys with head coaching potential. And we have a Lombardi. That's gotta be good juju. I don't know much about the new wr coach prince, but I'm confused as to why Herman Moore hasn't ever came up in the discussion for that job.

    Is it 1970 again?

No one player will replace zetterberg, no one player will replace datsyuk, I think it'll be by committee and by getting bigger well get harder to play against, give up less chances and have more of our own. Mantha may replace the production of one of them, but not the intangibles. Z (god willing) will still be playing in 2020 so hes got time to mold the next captain. And whether or not dats. Stays here until hes forty, given he's already 35 and is still a top 5 c in the league, I could see him still being able to contribute enough to be on the second line. But I would be surprised if he didn't go home after his new extensions up. But either way. We have a good core that should be here long enough to help guide the kids into the next generation. But were going to be fine. We have 3 of our top4 wingers of the future already up and showing they have first and second line potential, and when mantha joins jurco, nyq, and tats the only thing left to figure out is who'll center them. If they want they could even put sheahan as a top line winger, but Im imagining Riley and jarnkrok are the contingency plan for our top centers, until something else comes along... We have time. Barring trades or some unforseen circumstance We still may have Weiss if he picks it up, franzen if he can get healthy, helm who'll be a bit older but much more seasoned(also if he can stay healthy), Abby, Andy, and glendenning and whatever we lose, well pick up in the trade, and theres always the random free agent. Andreas Athanasiou will be in gr next season, he can play center or wing and hes got speed like helm in his prime and in his best of health speed and has shown some beautiful hands. Not to mention we got mrazek knocking on the door, and all of our young promising d prospects. We have an embarrassment of riches of skilled and big strong guys, and youre freaking out. Ha. Tatar and nyq are small, but as long as they progress right they're skilled enough to get themselves out of trouble.

I'd like to talk about this off-season/next season

I keep heating how impressed vanek is with the isles and that even if he got traded at the deadline (which they say will happen if he doesnt sign before)he would still strongly consider coming back and signing with them. It sounds like he has his mind somewhat made up but wants to test free agency, even of its just to start a bidding war if he happens to convince the islanders to keep him past the deadline with no extension in place.

    Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

Ha.Yeahhhh. I don't know how to make diacritic marks on my phone, but I'll get there. And nah man. Crosby for the second line center. I don't LIKE Crosby either, I'm a red wings fan he's a whiny little girl. But I'd be dumb as hell to say I wouldn't want him on my team. And as for next season. Mostly Addition by subtraction. Wouldn't mind if we can get a top four dman if the price isn't too bloated. And bring in fedyor malykhin, try him out on the third line with sheahan and Tatar, with jurco on the top line if we don't add a big goal scoring winger to go along with dats and z. I'd be okay with trying mantha out in this capacity, just don't see it happening.

My question is why you didn't go all out and trade helm, Nyquist smith and a bag of picks and prospects for Crosby and maata.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

There was a couple talks about us going after cammalleri, I came across a flames board talking about how jurco, sheahan, pulls, and jarnkrok werent worth him because they're all 3rd 4th liners in their system. Which gave me a good laugh.

I can't remember who the other player was, but malykhins team let another one of their forwards out of his contract to go to the NHL.Its in the article in the free agent posts.

He didn't question zetterbergs standing as this teams leader, because everyone knows he absolutely is, which is why you see the w-l record that way.the kids on this team were just being born or are too young to remember when steve y was made captain, and most of them were in the org when they gave z the c. Three captains in their lifetime, and they're part of the legacy of the third one. They rely on him emotionally, just like we did with lids. When Datsyuk hangs his skates up hell be in the conversations of best two way centers to ever play the game for years to come. You don't trade that. And realistically, what power forward would you accept for him? As for the whole "if Gretzky can be traded" argument, id have believes any blockbuster trade was an option, had the wings traded stevie y. The red wings are loyal to a fault, they're not going to trade away one of the most gifted, and humble players to ever play. Had feds not made such a big deal out of getting his paycheck, he would've retired a wing too.
