Red Wings popularity in Detroit/Michigan

I think geography plays into it too, you have a better chance of selling salt water to a Hawaiian then getting ice hockey popular in the south. -
I gotta ask. How do you suggest they slow the pace down, especially in a league where concerns are altering the game rules for a more exciting, higher scoring game. Shallower nets, hybrid icing, limiting where goalies can handle pucks, taking out the two line pass. An argument could be made for a more european style of hockey taking over so its more so about finesse, but this is still north america. And aggression attracts more people to the sport. Im not trying to call you out, im genuinely intrigued to hear how you think the game could be slowed down.

Your comment was tops man.And you used shadenfreude, which although is technically not an English word, is literally the best explanation for the fascination of the lions(post 94') Literally a full article couldn't describe it better then that one word. So, kudos. -
The guy literally destroyed the lives of countless people, then black mailed them on top of it just to bury them. I would still call him a hero if I actually believed livestrong wasnt an idea pushed on him by publicists, or if all the money they made wasnt a front to draw attention of his malicious actions, and to surround him with any amount of doctors and professionals who started off wanting to make a difference and ended up helping him replace his blood with charlie sheens tiger blood infused wizardy. Minus the crack, of course

Completely agree.I put hockey first, but only because i played for ten years and I happened to be good enough that my coaches didnt want me playing football. But the majority of the new generation of religious detroit sports fans had the pleasure of growing up watching Barry sanders, and Herman moore, who in my case I, idolized for the way they conducted themselves during the peak of their success. Watching t.o. run to the center of the star in Dallas to spike the ball, compared to literally running out of a pile of 8 men using finger tips to keep him upright, then breaking three more tackles on his way to the end zone and celebrating by handing the ball to the ref and calmly walking to the sideline. As a kid just starting to go through puberty,Barry had that confidence that you aspired to have. He acted like he had scored before and cared about more then one good play. We were pretty spoiled with him, and yzerman, and Lidstrom, and now Pavel and z. Megatron brings my excitement back to football though. Seeing someone that talented that humble, and clear headed is awesome. But for every calvin there is three+ titus youngs. Which is why the wings will always win in my mind. But I'd be remissed to say, that I'm not a fan of the lions. -
Our stock of future homegrown d isn't looking bad at all, with that said, I'd like to see nicastro, and possibly nestrasil used as trade bait to alleviate some cap space coupled with the players left on the outside of the wings depth chart.

Though I'm inclined to say I agree with you, when an athlete is past his peak he eventually slides into a lesser role, but when a politician starts slipping he accidentally shoots his friends while hunting, and then becomes a so called expert on gun control laws. But generally I would say that no one is immune to criticism. -
I'm excited for this kid. I haven't seen a full game of his, but you can't help but fall in love with the type of player his highlights portray him to be Smooth as pasha, and I'd like to see him and helm in a race a few years down the road when helm has been 100% for a good amount of time, and A.A. has had some time with a professional conditioning/training system.

I doubt this will happen. But I'd like to see him resign for 2 years putting his cap hit this year at his salary from last year(just under 1 m) and load the deal with incentives and a 2.5-3m cap hit hit next year. This way if he proves himself, he could make back the money he would've lost this year, and it sets us up with a right handed potentially top six sniper after alfredsson is gone after next year. If its done right It won't be too hard to clear the extra strain the deal would potentially put on the team in their efforts to lock up Andersson and Nyquist. But if they do clear the cap space and another roster spot and they pay cleary $2-3m+ over something with Brunner, then I'll be extremely disappointed. Although I am a fan of cleary.

. It'll take years to get a solid reading of the new rules, consistent diagnoses will help set the new standard when they revisit the the numbers. Before they basically had to get knocked unconscious for them to do a full concussion work up, now if you get hit high in the shoulders and your head jerks a little you're in the quiet room for 15 mins without fail. So you have a more than valid point, the answer just won't be definitive for a few more years with the same standards of testing.
