  1. Great player! Wpould love to have him as a Wing, but 9,000,000.00 is a huge percentager of the entire teams payroll. It will be even more difficult to surround him with a team.

Still a better deal that the one signed by Quincey and on a different note didn't kronwall sign an extension before Lindstrom and Stuart left where he wasn't their go to defenseman? It would make a lot more sense for why he's paid so little as the first defensemen.

  2. I'm very close to one of the players on this team (take it for what its worth) and I can tell you that a lot of free agents get hung up on the city rather than the organization. Based on the roster and the tradition, good free agents will listen and give us a meeting, but when it comes down to picking the right team (as long as they have similar offers) players are picking better places to live instead of to play.

I'm sure that's true but as a gm you need to pitch to UFAs in a way where they're excited enough about the team and it's potential that they're willing to sacrifice and live in an area that in their mind is subpar

  3. Oh but Holland DOES give out overpriced UFA contracts....see Quincey and Cleary...BOTH overpriced. Waste of money, whether he has $1M in cap space or $100M...they are BOTH grossly overpaid.

I really disagree. I think Cleary is definitely worth 150k per game

  4. Yea, but no one says what they'd do as GM. I bet if the average Red Wing fan became GM, he/she would make horrible trades and sign over priced UFA's. We'd be like the Leafs and our team would be build around guys like Kessel, Phaneuf, Lupul, Clarkson, van Reimsdyk and Bozak for the next 4 years plus. No thanks, I'll take Kenny, who's building the team with the draft, isn't signing any over priced UFA's, and actually knows how the cap works.

I understand signing Quincey and Cleary isn't "sexy", but they're only 1 and 2 year deals. That Niskanen deal is insane! Smith and Dekeyser are going to be better then him. Unless a team has drafted the player, I don't think any UFA should be signed for over 4 years. Do an online search and see how many horrible long term UFA signings there's been since 2005-06. The Wings don't have any bad ones over 3 years. The only potential bad one could be Weiss, but he's got a few years to still make the deal a good one.

Holland made an offer for more money and same term for Niskanen and same with other UFAs so it's not like he isn't making idiotic moves just no one is accepting them

  5. Let me know when they win a Cup as a GM

It really wouldn't surprise me if those two meet in the Stanley cup finals next season given their strong groups of forwards with solid goaltender's and decent defenses, Tampa bay with an edge in defense and possibly goaltending

  6. I don't want Kenny to make any trade... last two were disaster.

After Q and Legwand, thanks but no thanks. Kenny has no skills in trading. See you in summer 2015

I agree with that and you know what makes it worse? Our last two assistant GMs are doing amazing for their new teams: Yzerman and Nill

  7. I would go for this, besides having McCollum be the back up after Howie is gone. Maybe McC will have improved enough, but if not we could always sign a free agent back-up. Gus is only 29 so he could still be a viable back up at that time. Just not sure where he'd go in the intermittent season of the Howie/Mrazec year.

Gus could do a Ty Conklin and come back and I'm only saying McCollum if he improves enough to be an affordable backup that is used sparingly.

  8. I agree with this. He doesn't really have a future with Detroit, but I think he could push for a back-up job somewhere around the NHL. He might have to prove himself in another system for a year or so, but I could see him landing somewhere.

It could be a future possibility that he becomes a backup to Mrazek and the red wings trade Howard if Mrazek becomes a clear nhl starter.

  9. I can't see the Caps wanting a D in return. Capgeek has 8 D on their roster, plus any prospects who might be ready. Andersson, a second tier prospect, and a mid pick could do it. I don't think Green is worth much more than that.

And we avoid giving them anyone that would be a key contributor to the wings

  10. I completely agree Kip....I think the value of Green is drastically overstated. The guy is still young and if he is healthy, he can have a long career but honestly, people are acting like we are trying to acquire Drew Doughty here. It's obvious that the caps are going in a different direction with the signing of Niskinen and Orpik. Green is the odd guy out AND Washington is right up against the cap. As Ansar points out in his article, they need depth at forward and they need to clear some cap space to go that.....so in my mind, it's a salary dump for Washington so they can address their needs at forward. That works in Detroits favor. I think a 1st rounder and a moderate prospect will do it. Once they rid themselves of the 6 million they are paying for Green they can address their need with a forward.

If this is the case, I'm interested.....if they are talking Jurco, Gus or Tats....I'm not!

PS Franzen could go....and then the Caps can have the laziest line in hockey with Mule and OV!

I like keeping Tatar Nyquist and Mantha but I would really like red wings to hold on to their first rounders. Just so they can get some talent with a shorter development time so we can have a stacked roster in the next few years

  11. I'd say if mike green comes to Detroit he will never put up over 55 pts. Detroit is a two way team and won't want it's defensemen taking to much risk to get points. Look at Smith they moved him to forward to use his offensive skills and kronwall has had to be conservative since Stuart left

  12. The rumors point towards the red wings acquiring Mike Green. Personally I like this idea because we can get an offensive right handed defensemen for a more affordable rate given his cap hit and Washington's excess of defensemen. We could probably get him for Anderson, Washington needs centers, and a pick. Anyone have some input?

Maybe need to offer kindl or lashoff as well
