He's a injury prone, ufa, career backup goalie that we don't intend to keep. Why would anyone give anything for him? It's not like this is someone we have locked up. Are you going to hope we can trade Quincey next year?

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Take out Mantha, make the pick a conditional 2nd if Franson resigns, and Toronto needs to retain 2-3m on Kessel for it to work. -

I think Smith could be better than Q. They had to pair Q with DDK because he was a liability anywhere else. And then he makes a bonehead play... -
And first thing they're talking about is how many cups Crosby could win with Babcock coaching...
-
The Sharks said that they realized you could win a cup with a cheap goalie, by putting the money saved into forward and defense, and Chicago was their example. Never did work out for them. http://m.espn.go.com/nhl/story?storyId=5316670&src=desktop

I don't think he's leaving either, just the whole thing about him being a leaf fan is silly. And Calgary didn't have a team until Babs was almost 20.

Babcock grew up in Saskatchewan. He's more likely an Oilers fan growing up. And if he wants a challenge, Edmonton sure is a challenge too.
-
And Crosby and co. are being stomped over in Vancouver.

Fighting for first in the East is so much nicer than fighting for a playoff spot

One year! One year we can't get any of the over rated players and suddenly we can't get anybody ever again! Weiss and Alfie were the top free agents a year ago. We got them both! Can we please stop this "nobody wants to ever come to the wings again" thing? Seriously. We could end up #1 in the entire East this year. I have a feeling we'll be able to sign someone this season. -
Roy loves to pull his goalie super early.

Deep, just reread. Nvm

Subban has a $9m hit, Doughty has a $7m, Pietrangelo and Karlsson each are 6.5m. Keith has a sweetheart contract for 5.5. In fact, more than 30 defenseman make well over $5 a season. Franson for $5m is well within his value. Kronwall makes $4.75 though, but he could easily make more. http://www.spotrac.com/nhl/rankings/defenseman/ -
Smith!!

Tatar! That was a beautiful goal

Marchenko recalled from GR... Ouellet sent down

That's a situation where I am OK with trading Tatar -
I think we should let McCollum start a game. He's made some good saves so far.

Helmmmmm

I would agree that he has done pretty well, but what this stint has shown is that he's not ready for full time NHL starting, which some have been calling for. This is why Kenny kept Monster. Mrazek can still use time in the AHL.

Brodeur retires. Named Sr. Advisor to Blues GM

That's a huge slap in the face to the Devils organization. He played his whole career there and joins the front office for the Blues where he played a handful of games? -
The problem is Chicago has had three in a row now.

Funny that Hossa signed here at 30. Guess how old Weiss was when he signed? Here's a hint, he's 31 now. So if Hossa was in his prime, so is Weiss. The fact is, with the league being so equal now, players can play where they want, closer to where they grew up and have family, or closer to where they have other relationships. We had trouble landing a couple overrated Dmen, (Niskanen has a whopping 15 points) and suddenly we can't ever get a good free agent again.
-
So, will he be paying to replace that glass? Cause he really should have to.

Howard reminds me of Osgood in this way. He's an excellent goalie, but will usually allow 2-3 goals a night. If we're scoring the way we can, that's not going to hurt us. But both goalies were just short of the elite class that can win games 1-0 regularly. There's maybe a handful that can do that consistently, most can't.
