We have this thanks to our genius GM: Weiss missing tooth out of work buyout 15 mil Howard backup goalie 4 more years 20 mil Tootoo playing in Jersey buyout 4 mil Ericsson 3 more years 15 mil Kindl sitting in the pressbox 1 more year 2.5 mil Cleary in the minors 1.5 mil There are about 3 other bad contracts, but those were all fairly understandable at the time. Our GM is the king of not knowing what he's doing.

We've all been hoping Jimmy could outplay the other goalie since the game 7 ot loss to the blackhawks in 2013. That game wrecked Howard. He has been in decline since. No trade value left. I would say there is a possibility another team would pick him up if we ate 2-3 mil of his salaey each year. And the Wings should do it if given the chance. It's a pretty sad situation for all involved. Our gm really blew it on this one.

Kindl is the variable in your equation.

Why does/should it amaze you? Canada, Finland, and Sweden are all relatively affluent nations at the correct latitudes to produce good hockey players. It should amaze you if those countries were consistently producing good surfers. You should really EXPECT good hockey players to come out of Scandanavia. No surprise to me that these wj games and other national tournaments often feature Sweden and Finland.

I disagree. I think he has bull in a china shop problems. Not mental issues. He's just not patient yet. The game hasnt slowed down for him yet, but he's close to that point. He's 26, and has 3 seasons worth of games now. Its time for Smitty to be what he can be. If he doesnt close that final step and lock into an every game type of guy, then the Wings can relegate him to #6 for life or move him.

Agreed. I'm gonna wait to see how Kronwall performs in the playoffs this year, but I am completely unimpressed with #55 to the point of taking the A off his sweater and sending him down to the third pairing. He's not doing our team a lot of good. Throw Smith some pp minutes. He's fast so he can cut down the seconds chasing the puck down and getting it up ice. And he's got a pretty good point shot. His speed should be utilized when we have the man advantage.

And Robbie Russo, as well. Ericsson, Kronwall, and Kindl = 12 million of cap hit. I'd rather have Stamkos.

You are spot on. Smith, Marchenko, and DeKeyser are on the rise. Kronwall and Ericsson are falling. Coach sees who is earning the minutes 5 on 5. Frustrating that Kronwall gets so much pp time. He's not THAT dynamic at the point anymore either. Smith would easily be leading this team in points if he was our pointman on the first unit. -

The stats do not support your Marchenko analysis, but damn it, my eyeballs agree with your eyeballs. I love the DeKeyser Marchenko pairing and hope it sticks together a long time. -

From thst projection, I would think Kindl would be a good trade. Developed #6 NHL defenseman for undeveloped 4th line center. No reason to trade more than Kindl to get a poor man's Sheahan. -

Great post. The Kings have a very good fan base, as well. But Kings fans do not stretch across the nation. Chicago fans are bored bulls fans who are bored bears fans. You are right about their lightswitch propensity.
