And if by some miracle, Holland doesnt pick his ass all year long and actually makes a trade for a sniper (Stamkos) and/or big D (Byfuglien), we are going to be tough. Well said. He made 2 huge gafs last night. The video above shows one of them. Then Pavel and Smith got caught too close together. That was on both of them, but Smith has to let a wrister go before that gap closes and the play turns into a giveaway. That cant happen. Mrazek bailed Smith out on 1 of 2 mistakes. But at the end of the game, Smith joins the rush and gets an assist on Pav's goal. Finishes even. But I will admit that it was a bad game for Smith. The whole team sucked, but #2 has got to be better. If he plays well, our whole team will be ok.

I created a Smith thread so we can get out of this one. Russo and Mantha need call ups soon. They have earned them. Marchenko is losing steam fast and Kindl is press box for life material. We really need to do something with Kindl, Andersson, and Miller soon. Those 3 guys are going to hurt us once Quincey, Ericsson, and Miller are all healthy. I'd like to see a trade to keep room for the Grand Rapids guys on the team.

Hwlm is a good player. He opens space for Datsyuk and Richards with his speed. You can have 5 million hockey iq in 3 players, but they will all get shut down if all 3 of them are slow. I'd like to see Datsyuk with Larkin and Jurco, and Zetterberg with Helm and Athanasiou. Zetterberg and Datsyuk are not able to beat 1 on 1's consistently anymore. The 2 wingers need to open up ice for them. Richards, Nyquist, and Abdelkader dont open up the ice as well as they need to for the euro twins to be effective.

A first period where we dont get obliterated would be nice. If the Wings are going to come out on their herls every game, a coaching change needs to be made. Hockey games arent 12 round prize fights. You cant feel out your opponent for 1/3 of the game. Preparation, intensity, and alertness are on the coach. These stale 1st periods where we get outshot 15-5 grew old in November. Blash needs to get his Braveheart on and have this team playing hard from the first puck drop.
