Ahhhhhh. I get it. All you need is a defined role to start for the Wings. Doesnt matter if you and the "role" are completely useless to the team, I guess. "He blocks shots." Really? We see 35-40 a game. He gets in the way of a few power play shots per game. BFD. "He kills penalties." AND?? Our pk is far from outstanding, and anyone of our forwards from Detroit to Grand Rapids could do the exact same thing. Drew Miller's "role" at this point is taking a spot away from a more deserving player. He has 1 point in 20 games, and is a minus 3. He is NOT a help to this team.

I dont want anyone to be dissed.

The thing is - I think we very well could be a basement team without #71.

I have never played with Larkin, so I will just comment from what I've read, seen, and heard. Ive read that he is an excellent leader on and off the ice. Ive seen through his time at Ann Arbor and short time with Detroit that he has unstoppable determination and his play is extraordinary. And Ive heard his interviews where he has said he wants more and wants the team to depend on him. Everything Im picking up from Larkin is SCREAMING "Captain" to me.

Drew Miller in means Tomas Jurco in. It's that simple. If you believe Miller should play over Jurco, then conversation is over. I think its absolutely absurd.

But Miller has 1 assist in 19 games, which earns him a permanent spot in the top 12. I hope we get Miller's 7 year extension wrapped up soon. We dont need offensive players like Jurco. He's expendable as long as we have #20 killing penalties and grinding out 4-8 pts a year.

You are making my point for me. The Red Wings are not far away from a decade of nothing happening. I know Zetterberg is NOT the reason the Red Wings don't come out looking like the same team every game, but the fact is that they've been an inconsistent team for a while now. I think Larkin represents that same type of glimmer that Yzerman represented. He's the face of the franchise now, and the player that stabilizes the team. We are talking about Larkin and excited to see Larkin EVERY single game. We know the Wings can win any game because of him. That's the kind of player you make captain.

He played with Dats and Tatar a bit. I remember. But he's not getting top line treatment like Abby by any means. They had him stuffed with the 4th line or 3rd line the majority of the time.
