    NCAA Basketball Season

When I read the title of this forum I thought for sure a MSU fan started this! But yes, I am excited. I really want to see if OSU's Tad Five lives up to the hype. I think MSU will still make the tournament even though they almost lost to Grand Valley State a few nights back, and if U-M doesn't make the tourny this year Tommy Turtleneck Amaker should be gone.

I think both teams were looking ahead, and taking a break due to the all hype surronding "the game", and their difficult schedules.

On a Grand Rapids radio station Jim Harabaugh's brother said if offered Jim would take the MSU job. This scares me, but I guess they're going to go after English hard. Just like MSU, U-M may have a new coach too. Word is Carr is close to retiring...as soon as this year if they win out (knock on wood) Heres a list from the Rivals board according to U-M insiders 1) Kirk Ferentz- Assistant AD at U-M hired Ferentz at Iowa while working there. Ferentz's daughters go to U-M 2) Les Miles- Just got a huge extenstion, but he has one clause. He can leave for U-M anytime if hired because he used to be an assistant there. 3) Ron English- If Carr did retire, he would do everything in his power to get English the job...simular to what Bo did to Carr 4) Mike Tvogorac- Defensive Coordinator for the Carolina Panthers, and former U-M LB. 5) The following very unlikley, but have connections.... Urban Meyer (contract clause), John Gruden (said if he ever coached college he would want U-M/OSU), Mike Cameron (Chargers OC, former U-M coach), Mike Debord (current U-M OC)

I was at the Ball State game...it was ugly to say the least. Brandon Minor played very well though, but part of the reason of the Ball State comeback was U-M's 2nd string D was in. I guess you can't blame them though after a brutal 6 game stretch playing ND, PSU, WIS, Minn, Iowa, and MSU. Those games take a lot out of you mentally.

I forgive Herby...here his side of the story. Hes right he got "painted" in the corner by media... Kirk: "First of all, I did not call Steve Breaston worthless. I called his production in the Michigan offense worthless since his freshman year. That was probably said more out of frustration for Steve and wishing that he were more of a factor because of his ability to make big plays. I really regret that the newspaper painted me into a corner, making it look as if I called Steve worthless, which I never did. And I would never call any player worthless. But the facts are the facts and he has not been involved in this offense consistently since his freshman year." Kirk Herbstreit: (3:27 PM ET ) "The other thing that really ticked me off about that article was the headline that said that I feel that the Michigan defense will fail against Ohio State. I NEVER said Michigan's defense would "fail". I simply said they would not be able to dominate the Ohio State offense the way they've enjoyed dominating everybody they've played up to this point. I take a lot of pride in the fact that I'm an objective analyst, and anybody who's listened to me analyze Michigan over the last 11 years on ESPN, if they were being honest with themselves, would have to say I've always been fair to Michigan. If there's any regret that I have, it would be in using the word "worthless" to describe Breaston's productivity in the Michigan offense. That was not a term that I would ever use about a player and the person who he is. And it was clearly misconstrued, misrepresented and mean-spirited by the paper. I will continue to be objective and I will continue to enjoy seeing Michigan play well. As far as Eddie George's party, for me and my travels, I don't get a chance to see former players very often and I took Eddie's comments about a get-together as just that, win or lose that a bunch of former players were all going to get together. I hope all of the Michigan fans understand that this was clearly an attempt to paint me into a corner, as being anti-Michigan, which is the furthest thing from the truth. I've talked with Bill Martin, the Athletic Director and I have a call into coach Carr. And I'm looking forward to seeing Michigan win their next two games and I literally can't sleep because of my excitement about the Maize and Blue and Scarlet and Gray meeting to decide which of the two teams will play for the national title."

I'm suprised too. I posted a while ago that Mason left because it was in the Free Press, but maybe something happend making him change his mind. Or maybe the Cavs were just trying to get him.

I didn't see the intros, but I didn't think it was Mason..just a fake. This is from Detroit News during the summer- "The Cavaliers hire John Mason, whose distinctive, rumbling voice at The Palace has become legendary in the NBA. Mason is a genuine NBA personality. We used to have Gus dancing in the balcony and Leon the Barber heckling. Listen, we don't care Gilbert's fling with Larry Brown hastened his divorce with the Pistons. We wish McLeod well. The media has become a free-agent business. But the intolerable act is hearing Mason's rumbling tone tell us "CLEEEEEEEV-land, BAS-KET-ball." Or, "at the line, wearing the Cavaliers 23, LeBron, 'Bron, 'Bron, 'Bron, 'Bron JAMES!!!!" Maybe something changed, but I think he got hired by the Cavs.

I have my doubts too because there is no defensive intensity, which is why Ben Wallace left.

I actually agree with everything he says..hes right U-M offense is struggling, hes right the OSU O can spread the D, and hes right Breaston is struggling. If he would have said Breaston was disapointing, average, or not playing well I would have had no problem. I just don't think worthless should be used on any college athlete. If he was pro its his right, but college is different.

Anyone read/hear Kirk Herbstreits comments on U-M? Usually I like Herby, but I was offended after he called Steve Breaston worthless. No "expert" has the right to call any college athlete worthless. If he would have called Breaston disapointing I would have agreed and had no problem, but worthless is crossing the line. Herby should shut his mouth since he was "worthless" (0-4-1) against U-M. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic.../611010338/1131

What Haurbaugh has done though is impressive. Took a horrible San Diego team, brought them to 7-5, to 11-1, and now they are 8-0 so this year, and ranked No. 1 in the country. Also very young for a coach. One other name I heard to was a coordinator at UCLA...again forgot his name, but has MSU ties.

I just read that some place else too. So who are your candiates? Here is stuff I've read on MSU boards Steve Mariucci- I think he's worse then John L. Larry Coker?? If he gets fired, but again he hasn't proven anything. Brian Kelly- Built CMU to respectability, and turned Grand Valley State into the "USC" of thier leauge. Ron English- U-M defensive coordinator. Is known for intensity, and recruiting. Problem is here he turned down the Bears already this year, why would he accept MSU then? Tyrome Willinham- Washinton/ND coach...graduated from MSU. I think leaving Washington so early though would give him a bad name. Mike Price- Had his off the field problems, but can coach. Has also laid low the last few years. Here is the interesting one- JIM HARABAUGH- Former U-M QB. Has hardly lost at the I-AA level (like Tressel once did) His whole staff is former NFL coaches and players. His brother in law is Tom Cren- who many think will replace Izzo when the day comes. When I first read this I thought "yeah right", but if you search it you will find plenty of sites saying this. I don't see how a former U-M QB could take this job though.... Another guy I've read about is the DC at Georgia Tech. Dont remember his name, but he has some kind of MSU ties I believe.

This is a great post I found on ESPN from a U-M fan.... Let me tell you about a team from a long time ago: End of Year Stats: Ranked #70 in Total Offense #93 Pass #31 Rush Ranked #23 in Total Defense #95 Pass #3 Rush Beat a 9 loss NW team 27-16 Beat Wisconsin 19-14 Beat PSU 13-7 Beat a 6 loss Purdue team 10-6, on a prayer Beat an awful ILL. team 23-16 in OT on Nov. 16th Defeated a somewhat down UM team 14-9 Great team, Huh?? I remember telling all my OSU buddies how UM would smoke OSU because you couldn't score. Oops. That OSU team, 2002 National Champs. Shut up about our offense. The difference between the '02 Bucks and the '06 Wolves, is we CAN score when we need to. We are on about page 3 of the playbook. We'll be there. Will you. Scores don't mean squat. We rank ahead of that '02 team statistically on D, does that make our D better than OSU's '02 squad? So stop bashing our offense, and if you are pinning all of your hopes on that, it's going to be a long day for you. Throw out all your numbers and stats, #1 v. #2, The Game, THE Biggest Rivalry in college football. See you on the 18th, and I hope it lives up to the hype. Am I saying U-M going to win? No, but it WILL NOT be a blowout. It will be like every other U-M/OSU game: hard fought and close.

Butler is going to be a very good TE for U-M. I think he was still a year away from being ready for significant action, which is why he has made some bad mistakes. Overall though I think he's doing a good job for us. To bad for Ecker I thought he was going to have a huge year for us this year. I just hope Breaston has a breakout game sometime.

Some of these NBA projections are a joke! Pistons 6th in the conference? What the heck. People are writting off the Pistons off quick, and I love it. They still have the best starting 5 in the leauge, and have a better bench. I don't see how people think they've fallen off the earth.

I don't want this to happen, but thought it would be fun to ask, b/c I saw it on a Tiger board. It's about A-Rod coming here. The Yanks would want pitching I would guess, and he would have to waive his clause. If we did get him though I think he would do TONS better because I think Detroit would except him (like Rasheed Wallace), and then Guillen could go to first base. Again not saying I want this, but it's intersting to talk about IMO. I'll try to find a FA list somwhere....
