  1. Haha, look at that beautiful mullet!

    Melrose would approve!!

Michigan-Michigan State game only a few days away and all the talk here is on the Michigan-Ohio State rival, go figure.

It's kind of a big deal :D But you're right I guess it's time to start the U-M, or MSU jokes now!

BTW my next door neighbor is a 56 year old MSU alum. I'm walking in my house last night, and there is a message on my door. It said "Watch out I am OSAMA BIN SPARTAN!!!".

    WTF does that mean?!?!?!?!

  2. MSU is down at least one defenceman scince A.J. Sturges is in the hospital in fair condition as a result of a fight with some of the MSU football players. Also as many as four of his team mates may have been involed in the fight that occured at their house on Sunday morning. Do not be supprised to see some players get kicked off the team after all the dust has settled.

Same thing happened to Kampher, U-M hockey player. I posted it in the football forum. Wish both hockey players the best.

  3. So apparently Brett Favre called up the Lions on his own initiative and tipped them off as to things that the Packers do on offense? Assuming that story is true, why? And why do we suck so bad we give up 48 points when we know what's friggin' coming?

Whether it's his retiring, and then coming back saga, telling Tony Romo to play hurt (and never telling Rogers do to the same), or this. He is really pissing me off this year. Shouldn't he be learning his new NYJ playbook since he apparently did this right after he joined the Jets?

I apologize to Packer487 in advance for my comments

  4. I'm sure most read about the dumbass U-M football player who beat up U-M's key hockey player in Steve Kampfer. Now I just read AJ Sturges, a MSU hockey player is in the hospital for what appears to be being beat up by MSU football players. Why the hate on the hockey players?! What are the chances both schools have almost identical crime cases in one week? I wish both well with a speedy recovery. Too bad this stuff happens.......

  5. Michigan's defense is going to be hurting, badly. Mitera is out for who knows how long, and Kampfer got injured in an assault early Sunday morning. He'll be in a neck brace at least 8-10 weeks. I guess one of the freshman, Brandon Burlon sprained his ankle as well.

Thats a huge blow. This is Sauer's time to put it all on his shoulders. I know there are still people who doubt him, because of the frozen four (I don't). I can't name another scenario that would be better for him to prove everyone wrong.

And U-M got Jack Campbell, one of the nations best goalies for 2010!! Kill Jack Kill, oh wait I mean....

  6. I think Purdue is the team to beat, but I wouldn't count out MSU. Wisconsin will be solid like usual too. It never matters who they lose player wise, because Bo Ryan is a good coach. I'm excited to watch U-M improve. They will struggle again, and really lack the big men with Udoh transferring, but hopefully they can make the NIT. I really like what I hear about John Beilein. I think he's going to do good things....

What a surprise a MSU fan started this thread (:

  7. The one thing that Michigan fans my want to look at is Alabama. Bama lost to UL-Monroe last year. Now look at where they are at.

I like to look it at it that way too, but I will be honest there is a major flaw in the U-M/Bama comparison: Bama has a senior QB, while Michigan will have a true freshmen next year. HUGE difference, but I think is a good comparison between two past successful coaches starting out fresh again.

  8. I guess my point about recruiting mostly has to do when you look at Nebraska. Ever since Osborne retired, the program has took a major downward spin. Why? Is it just coaching?? Is it recruiting? Is it everyone else in the Big 12 catching up with them?? If Michigan has a rough year next year and the following, why couldnt that scenario happen there??

Tennessee is another good scenario to consider. The Vols used to be a foregone conclusion that the SEC (at least the East section) would always come down to Florida and Tennessee. Now so many other teams have "caught up" to the Vols.

Those are good examples, but Tenn/Neb (especially NEB) took big recruiting hits, but I will say recruiting rankings really need to be taken with a grain of salt. For every 5 star who lives up to the hype (Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Ernie Sims, Rey Manaluga, etc) you can name more 5 star busts (Kevin Grady, Rhet Bomar, Anothy Morelli, Kellly Baraka, etc) On top of that there are 3 star studs that are are always under the rader (AJ Hawk, Braylon Edwards, Mike Hart, etc).

  9. Who'd he run off? Boren? That whiny little daddy's boy? Boren left, I think, for one big reason: RR wouldn't let him go home and snowplow when his ass was supposed to be in the weight room. So he complained about "eroded family values" and took off. The only other transfer was Mallett, who Carr couldn't stand and who didn't like RR's offense and rightfully so, because he has the mobility of an oak tree. He was smart to leave, he wouldn't have succeeded in this offense.

RR has in fact adapted his system to the personnel. All it takes is to see the run/pass ratio. Last year with Pat White and no receivers, he ran 70% of the time. This year it's an even split. Asking him to try and coach a Carr-style offense when he has no experience with it is like asking Mallett to run the RR offense. It just wouldn't work.

It's WAY too early to start climbing all over RR. We haven't even played a Big Ten rivalry game yet.

    Spot on, well said.

If some of the donors and alumni are upset and want DickRod gone, that speaks volumes much louder than these computer geeks who put together a www.firerrod.com website.

I don't really see the point in that because some donors will never give RR a chance because Miles was their friend, and/or former teammate, and 1st choice. There were donors who hated Carr too.

Recruiting isn't going to be hurt at all, the only reason you see players "de-committing" is because they made their minds up all the way back in April and May, the later you get a player to commit the better the chance they have actually made up your mind.

I agree with your post. I would be shocked if recruiting took a blow. It won't. Look at ND's season last year, and their recruiting class (ranked No. 1). Players understand rebuilding is going on, and know they are still looking into a major program. Bama's cupboard was full too when Saban got there. Players are still going to go the school because of the name, and history behind it. Look at Michigan's class for next year with 2 good QB's, slots, etc. Heck they got 2 studs already from the 2010 class.

  10. It wouldn't have been this down if Carr hadn't retired. Part of that, of course, has to do with Coach Attitude running off players who would have been his most talented players, had intended to stay and ended up transferring out or declaring because they weren't guys who fit his type of offense and rather than try and adapt to the talent that he had, Rodriguez preferred to say 'OK, we're doing it this way whether we have the players to do it or not." And the answer of course is that Michigan did not have the players to do it.

If Rich Rod was willing to adapt his offensive scheme to a QB like, say, Ryan Mallett....then perhaps Michigan would be in a much better position. But instead, he basically forced Mallett out of the program because he was wooing Terrell Pryor, who ended up at OSU anyway. Coach Rod is definitely right. He turned West Virginia around, and now he's turned Michigan around. Unfortunately, Michigan was already good. Hopefully, we can get the Wolverines turned back around again by the end of the season.

That is true. We would still have Baby Boren, and Arrington with Carr, and MAYBE Manningham. But how much would those 2 really help with Threet, and a still very poor OL? Like I've said before I believe Mallett was gone no matter what. He didn't like the school, he missed home, and was alienating teammates. RR wanted Mallett, but like he said when Mallett turned it into a situation where RR had to literally start recruiting him, along with Pryor who are you going to recruit harder? A guy who doesn't want to be at U-M, or a guy who fits the style you are bringing in perfectly, and had legit interest in them. It's not a hard pick.

  11. Which of Michigan's remaining games are you penciling in for wins?

Football at Michigan is different than basketball though. After Ed Martin and the Fab 5, all UM seems to want from a basketball coach is to keep the program clean and not have former players questioned by the FBI. Football is what brings in the big money from the alumni, not hoops. I'd bet dollars to donuts that Martin has been hearing from some donors already.

That is all very true on hoops/football, and there is not doubt you are right on the donors. Some donors have never even given Rodriquez a chance because their boy from LSU was not hired.

  12. Yes but the team certainly has more talent then Toledo. I am replacing all my "APPY STATE" jokes with "TOLEDO" now. Clearly this loss is much worse than the Appy State loss. On paper, this should have been the first game you went to "pencil a win" in.

DickRod won't be fired this year but if this team is this bad next year...his coaching seat will definately get hot. I personally would give him 3 years no matter what. Thats enough time to get his program and offensive scheme in.

I agree on the talent part. They should win that game every time no matter what. I also agree it's a worse lose then App State. I don't agree with the hot seat though. Bill Martin gave more then enough time (actually too much time) for Tommy Amaker, and was on Lloyd Carr's side even if they would have went 0-12.

Next year there will be even more growing pains. There will be a true freshmen probably starting at QB. If not starting getting a lot of PT, along with holes to fill on the DL, and more OL shuffles. Record wise should be much improved though. I'm not worried about RR. He will have them in the elite category in time....

  13. http://www.firerrod.com/

    The honeymoon is over

Whoever made that site should die, and I'm not even joking. This team wouldn't be that good if Carr, Miles, Schiano, or even Vince Lombardi was coaching. People should realize that. Like I've said 1,000 times if you're going to make a 180 degree change in Michigan football this might as well have been the year because it was going to be a down year regardless.
