  1. What is your rationale for these claims? Smith being better than daley is laughable! (And I like smith) I do agree with you on 55 and 52. I think kroner may well be heading for ltir. (Cap problem solved)I think we are justified to expect continued growth from Jensen and Ouellette. Why is it so impossible for Z to have another great yr? It seems as though the pessimists throw this claim out there simply because "he had a good yr so there's absolutely no way to do that twice" Actual evidence shows that Larkin is improving and will continue so again I agree with you there and am optimistic about mantha and AA as well. Sheahan will improve and score 25+ points. If there ever was an occasion to objectively analyze and classify a season as "bad luck" it was Riley Sheahan '16-'17. 14 and 21 contributing 50+ points will not surprise. And again with howard "he will not replicate last yr" why not? There's more reason and facts to support that he will than that he won't. Plus mrazek is an ultra confident, ultra competitive very skilled professional athlete who just b****-slapped in front of the entire league and he's in a contract year. I'd put money on him improving not regressing. The whole pessimism for the sake of pessimism because it's the popular narrative is stale and tiring. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk

    Howard 2017 Starting Netminder

Howard signed his current deal after the 12-13 season. In the 4 years prior to the deal howard started an average of 55.75 games with a .918 save%, 2.32GAA and 4SO per year. During the 12-13 season (last before his current deal) the league ave for those categories was .912%, 2.54GAA, 1.3 SO. Howard ranked 9th with a 2.13GAA, 10th with .923%, and 1st with 5 SO. Howard was a top tier starter consistently for multiple years prior to his big money deal. There is no way to know that he would struggle so much with injury and inconsistency as he has in the years since. Yes, it is extremely frustrating but it's easy to sit here and manage the past. Unfortunately, we don't get to see the player's whole career arc before we sign these contracts. Howard was a solid starter for sure and part of the top 1/3 goalies in the league no question and by all accounts had our net situation solved for the next 8 years. His performance last year, while probably not exactly the new norm, is a closer representation of what he is and can be the the injury/inconsistency riddled prior couple years. Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

Correct. Arbitrator had nothing to do with it. Sides can continue negotiating on their own between the conclusion of the meeting and the arbitrator announcing his decision. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

I keep hearing tatar is a one dimensional player. For the sake of conversation can we explain or define what it actually is we're talking about when we throw that phrase out there. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

5-6 million is not a ridiculous contract for Tatar. It is the going rate in the league for these types of players. If every other team would also pay it, that is simply market value. If he ends up somewhere else next yr he will definitely be in the high 5/6mil window. If Abby was making the lower 3mil he should be, helm was making the high 2mil he should be (or gone), and Glendening was making the 800k he should be i don't think there 'd be nearly the talking points or debate over signing a established top goal scorer 5.5/6 mil especially considering market value and cost to retain/sign similar players around the league. Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

If they award him something ridiculous the team can reject the decision essentially releasing the player's rights and allowing them to immediately become ufa...also not a good outcome for us. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

I think the most realistic two sided scenario is either we sign him long term or lose him for nothing after his arbitrary deal. If he gets the 1yr deal on the 20th we have no remaining cards...Tatar has said he will not return if it goes that route...with that knowledge what team is going to offer a deal that Hollands magic 8-ball says is a good one? Also, what is this thread going to look like after the deadline when we send him somewhere for a 3rd and Holland starts talking about how hard trades are and that's the best we could get? We're gonna be trying to talk guys off the ledge! I personally will be pissed. I think there will be news in the next couple days-- 5/little more than 5mil or 6/right around 5mil. Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

He's a UFA next year so arbitration can only award him a 1 year deal. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk

    2017 Opening Day Roster

Kroner and Johan on ltir...my hunch is that kronwall's knee is worse than hoped possibly leading them to crowding the d room and using him for cap space to sign 21, 72 Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk

    2019 Free Agency Class

This is on capfriendly armchair gm section under Red Wings named "contending again". I also completed roster makeups for 2017-18 "setting 17-18 roster" and 2018-19 "new era part duex" to show foresight, and preemptive roster management to get us cap space leading up to a +ufa year. Maybe not all perfect moves, but cap compliant, potentially competent rosters and what I think is a decent representation of youth infusion from G.A., retaining roster talent, and making impactful F.A. signings leading to a quick rebuild...oops "retool". 15. Great observation...what I'm saying is that as a 7 seed we played 14 games, beat the 2 seed and gave the hardest series of their playoffs to the cup champions. We were not supposed to do anything but that didn't matter once we were in we finished as one of the top 8 teams in the league Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk
  16. "Just gotta get in...then anything can happen" -Ken...im somewhat joking but I actually don't really disagree with this. Last year in the west we had eventual Champs down 3-1 in 2nd round. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk
  17. Ouellette and Jensen, even dk for that matter are part of the "young guys" they've just proven themselves as nhl regulars. We do have several "young guys" that have made the most of their opportunity/audition. Nhl does not universally = old, washed up, overpaid and ahl does not universally= mistreated wasted nhl talent. Sproul made the team out of camp last year and Jensen didn't get his shot until the 3rd week of December so Sproul has definitely had opportunity to make himself stick. You can't tell me any nhl team is not going to bend over backwards to make a 6'4", righty dman with "rocket shot" work out for them...he just hasn't grabbed it and he's not gonna be ready to start the year. Would I like to see him get another long look this year? Yes! But at kronwall's expense not Ouellette or Jensens. They have succeeded in the same situation that Sproul has thus far not don't penalize them for it...that would be asset mismanagement. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk
  18. I don't believe daley has ntc Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk
  19. Jurco and pulkinnen both are not quality nhlers they had opportunity to prove themselves and could not. Instead they proved they were soft against nhl men, not skilled enough to create their own chances and not talented enough to consistently get their shots through...red wings had nothing to do with that...AA and Mantha and Jensen and Ouellette etc had the same opportunities and time to grow in G.R. and proved themselves...all I remember from teemu and jurco is them sitting at the face off dot slowly winding up for a shot right into the opponents legs and turning over possession. 20. And when they signed him in 2014 he was a big solid defender who'd come up in the system and was a big part of the future core...they didn't see how closely his growth and good years were tied to playing with kronwall in his prime and how severely kronwall's breakdown would contribute to ericson's decline. However, he can still be a positive 4,5,6 on a team in the NHL that's why I'd love to trade and get something for him after this year. I think a 6'5" established defender with 2 yrs on his deal would be appealing to several teams given the current market especially if we retain some salary...maybe a 3rd round pick and mid prospect Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk
  21. Idk Holland doles them out like mollies Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk
  22. Hopefully kronwall is headed to ltir...I think that we've developed 2 out of our 3 young prospects into full time nhl dmen in Jensen and Ouellette. Sproul does not impress me at all he's softer than Jensen and Ouellette in our zone does not win puck battles as consistently as needed, is a average at best skater and can't consistently get his shot to the net...I wouldn't mind trading/waiving him and prefer daley for 3 yrs while hronek, saajarvi, Hicketts to get their shot. Heck I'd take a responsible shot at signing green back after this year 3yr/3m type money...he's not part of the problem and we're not magically going to land a #1 fa without losing the forward talent we do have...keep drafting d and while they develop keep developing dk, Ouellette, Jensen with the big club and keep the #2-3 range dmen we do have...Jensen has potential to be top pairing guy, dk is top 4...can play top 2 with right partner...Ericson's ntc becomes modified after this yr making easier to possibly unload him. After next yr we could conceivably be free of kronwall, Ericsson, Sproul and have 2-3 openings (depending on green) for guys like Russo, sulak, hronek, saajarvi to fight for while dk, Jensen, daley lead Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk
  23. Hi guys. I typed "Detroit Red Wings fan forums" in my search engine looking desperately for a group of people to talk and be excited about the wings with. I'm a displaced fan living in wisconsin I've never joined much less posted to a group before but I got so sick of reading everyone's bitching in response to khan and St James articles (by no means am I defending anything they say) it just almost feels like there are no fans and that a lot of us are so %100 committed to pessimism that we don't even care if it's warranted in a specific case or not. I feel like the vocal portion of the fan base has slipped into a mob mentality trying to see who can be the most pissed of and most creatively label the organization as inept bush league. I joined this forum 10 minutes ago so I'm not trying to make any enemies or disparage people's opinions but I just hope this is a place where, in addition to sometimes well placed angst, we can have fun discussing "our wings" excitedly. Let's talk about the skill and promise we do have, how we'd deploy it, line makeups that have chemistry, things on the ice we'd like to see, personnel changes and deployments we're excited to get a look at, armchair gm moves we'd make. We're "wingnuts" guys let's try to bring the fun back a bit!...we can still pray for Stevie's return! Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk
