It was a completely unnecessary cross check. IMO. Pavelski did not have the puck. He was completely facing away from the puck so there is no way he was getting the puck back. He was not in any way directly involved in the play. Eakin had no reason to do what he did. It was stupid. It could have been called as a 2 minute minor. I will concede that the fact Pavelski was injured probably increased the severity of the penalty. Reasons why VGK has no reason to complain. 1. They were up 3-1 in the series and had 2 previous chances to close it. They didn't. 2.They gave up 4 PPG on one PP. Ridiculous PK. They only had to stop one of them to win. They didn't. 3. They could have still won the game in OT. They didn't. If Vegas wants something to complain about, there are 3 right there. Stop blaming the officiating. It had very little to do with it.

Yzerman inherited a team ready to rebuild. Holland was maintaining a playoff team who had just won a cup and almost another at the same time. Of course their moves were different. Different teams/scenarios. What I am saying is that if you look at how Yzerman rebuilt that team, its not unlike the direction Holland was taking in the early stages of his rebuild. If you think that Yzerman is going come close to doing all of things you have been proposing (buyouts, trades and UFA signings) you are going to be very disappointed. It will be much more inline with what Holland has already been doing.

Doesnt matter. A penalty is a penalty. You cant argue that it isnt always called. If you dont want to be penalized, dont commit the infraction. Simple as that. Maybe it should have been 2 instead of 5. But, If Eakin didnt do what he did, there wouldnt have been a penalty at all.

Agreed. Bringing in Karlsson and Panarin (both late 20s) could cost up to 20 mil a season for both. And that's just their salaries. Factor in buyouts to make room for them and kids coming up on the roster and its even more. Going the UFA route isnt the way Yzerman will address rhe team's needs IMO. His track record shows he'll continue down the same road Holland did...building thru the draft. Lehner took a 1 year 1.5 mil deal play in NY. If he chose that over a 3 yr 3 mil salary to play in Detroit, than who is the real idiot here?

Yzerman had a contender in TB. Going after Karlsson made sense. Wings are not a contender, they're rebuilding. Going after Karlsson wouldnt make sense. Different teams, different moves. Generally when u mentor under someone, you develop a similar way/style as your mentor. Identical? No. Similar? Yes. Nothing too radical here.

I was referring to management style. Yzerman will have his own unique way of running things, but Stevie and Holland are more alike than different. If people are expecting drastic changes, they're going ro be disappointed. Yzerman will get a LONG leash from fans. He's a hero in Detroit. That will give him a pass for years. Seeing as how this team is already on the way up, they will only get better under Y's tenure. There will undoubtedly be ignorant ( or willfully blind) fans who give Yzerman ALL the credit (and Holland none of it). This will actually help extend Stevie's approval rating even longer. Long story short. I think Yzerman has nothing to worry about for at least 10 years.

At least when Yzerman runs the team similarly to Holland, we wont have to hear all of the FIRE Yzerman! talk. For a while anyway.

Holland is also like 65 years old and he brought in a guy to take the job he already had. Cant imagine he would do that if he wanted to continue to GM. I suppose he could "miss it" later on, but at his age I think he probably takes on a role like Scotty Bowman has in Chicago if he goes to another team. Kinda like ur unceasing optimism.

If he's going that high, he better be top pair. Not interested in drafting another 2nd pair guy in the first round.

Everything I heard in the press conference says otherwise. Holland is much more familiar with what the team has regarding prospects. Yzerman isn't. He has 2 months to get up to speed. If u think that he isnt going to consult with the guy who has led this team for 22 years, you're wrong. Like it, or not, Holland is an asset to Yzerman. He said so in the press conference. Steve would actually be a bad manager to not take advantage of Holland's experience and knowledge. Holland was a scout for years before he was a GM. Yzerman would be an idiot to leave Holland out of the loop.

It doesnt really change my cofidence one way or another. You gotta think that with the draft only 2 months away that Holland will still be heavily involved with this one, which makes sense considering his history as a scout. Having both Yzerman AND Holland at the helm for rhe draft gives me reason for optimism, but I dont think it changes our picks all that much if at all. Where I really think the advantage will be is with roster management. Yzerman can utilize buyouts or trade away bad contracts more easily than Holland could because he doesn't have to fix his own mistakes and allows Holland some measure of saving face. Also, I don't think he makes the same moves in free agency as Holland does, although I do think he lets Kronwall come back for another year if he wants to. Those 2 have history. I just dont think you'll see him bring in the Vanek types anymore.

I disagree. I think he's done with the hands on managerial stuff. I think that's why he worked hard on bringing Y in. I could see Seattle bringing him onboard in some kind of advisory role, but not as GM.

He's handing over the job he's occupied for 20 years to someone else. That has to be, in some way, emotionally draining. It was probably sinking in at the press conference that its all done. He's moving on/up.
