Too much to give up. Chances are, we have guys as good, or better, coming up. Why trade for what you already have? Larkin? Raymond? Edvinsson? Bertuzzi? Vrana? Berggren? Who are you willing to give up for a 30 something Forsberg? -

This. Great option at 2C. Way cheaper than Forsberg, and actually plays a position of need. And RH too. -
I would be ok with Hertl, but Strome and Trochek are both RH and will probably be cheaper for the 2C. That's were SY needs to spend his cap space. Also, there is zero chance SY signs and/or trades for a 2C, 2W, and 2 top 4 D all in one off season.

Bye bye Kravtsov.

I understand the concept. What I don't understand is blowing up your entire roster and having wingers play center in order to fit in one guy on the roster. A guy who is going to get a max deal, and potentially become an albatross contract at a time when Seider, Raymond, and Edvinsson will be due for a big payday. And since SY has not added any RH forwards to the top 9, in 3 seasons, I don't think he is all that concerned either. Besides, Rakell and Rust are both better, cheaper options. -

Yzerman is not trading away a 1st and 2 2nds from the same draft. That is exactly the kind of asset management that Holland was doing to extend the playoff streak, and it decimated the prospect pool. -
This team wouldnt be a contender next season even with Lindholm.

If your centers are Larkin, Veleno, and Fabbri, you wont get past the 1st round of the playoffs. Veleno is a 3rd liner and Fabbri is better on the wing. Raymond, Bertuzzi, Vrana, and Berggren are the wingers on the top 2 lines. Why would you move players to positions they arent suited for in order to pigeon hole Forsberg into the lineup? How about you play your guys at their best position and then trade for or sign guys to fill the holes left over? -

The only team willing to "trade" for him is Grand Rapids. -
This is why we don't need Lindholm.

SY should only be considering big contracts on positions of need with little in the pipeline to fill. The only position he should even consider a high dollar/ long term contract on is 2C. That's it. We don't need anymore wingers. Seider, Hronek, and Lindstrom will be here for a while and their D partners can be brought up over the next 2-3 seasons. No need to spend big money there either. -

The only thing that stopped DK being waived before the season started was the injury to Stecher. Like I said before, the demotion of E was the writing on the wall for DD. He'll probably be called back up after the TDL. -

Past their prime guys will be SY targets. Those guys will be expecting 1 or 2 year deals anyway and Yzerman can offer them top 4 ice time, where they would be depth players on better teams. He also has more cap space to pay them. I looked over the list of UFA D for this summer. I ruled out RHD since Seider, Hronek, and Lindstrom need left side partners. I ruled out anyone 30 and under since they will expect longer term. I also ruled out the really big names since they'll want too much money, and will probably go to a contender anyway. And I ruled out players with less than 100 NHL games since they would be mostly depth guys. This is what I came up with: Alex Goligoski, Alex Edler, Ian Cole, Michal Kempny, Andrej Sekera, Kris Russell, Keith Yandel, Jack Johnson, Jordie Benn...beyond that is just 7th D and AHL guys. A guy like Goligoski, Edler, Cole, or Sekera could be brought in on a 1 or 2 year deal. Theyre old, but could they be any worse than Staal and Leddy?. One vet I would consider at least a PTO is Michal Kempny. He has an injury history, his left leg is potentially shot, but he would have been a good 2nd pair dman if he could have stayed healthy. A couple of younger guys I would make a short term offer to and see if they bite: Calvin de Haan, Ben Chiarot, Brett Kulak, Nathan Bealieu. -

Yzerman will bring in a vet or 2 on short term contracts like Leddy, Staal, and Stecher. He isnt going to handicap his future contracts by handing out big ones now to guys who are going to be anchors later. He also has a lot of yound D in the system who will be up in the next 2 or 3 seasons. It doesnt make sense for him to sign contracts now that will last beyond that. -
6 goals against last night. Just pull the goalie.
-
This is what I would imagine a Soderblom fight would look like.
-
I hope this happens. It means the team has 4 solid top 6 wingers in Raymond, Bertuzzi, Vrana, and Berggren. It means the team has Fabbri, Rasmussen, and Veleno already in the bottom 6 and Neiderbach and Soderblom not far behind. The team would no longer need Zadina to improve, and wouldn't miss him even if he did so on another team. Trading him would be almost necessary at that point.
-
Correct. One GM overpaid with a first. Another will overpay with a 2nd.

How long would his stick be? He could cover half the ice by himself.
