Sure you do. Guys that age get 5 year deals all the time. Thats exactly what I expect him to get in free agency. Whats silly is trading away a similar package 5 years from now to re-acquire him or a similar player which is exactly what "contenders" do. It empties the cupboard, and is exactly the reason why teams are sent into rebuild mode. Keeping your secondary scorers AND your draft picks is how you stay competitive for a long time. Trading away one to acquire the other and then trading it back again later is counterproductive.

I wasnt trying to imply that Tavares was hurt or offended in anyway. My post was directed at Leafs Nation who seemed to think that he is some child who can't take heckling and taunting from opposing fans and must be applauded and praised to make him feel better. The gesture was just sad, and actually made Tavares look worse, as if he needs Leafs Nation for some kind of emotional support. If the roles were reversed, Toronto would have done exactly the same thing to JT when he came back there to play; but there's no way that the Islanders would have given him an unnecessary celebration as if he was some kind of war hero returning home. Only in Toronto would this happen.

As would I. My point was how some people think that draft picks and former captains are magical unicorns that will fix everything. Thats not reality. Put Yzerman in charge and trade every bad contract on this team for draft picks and its still a bad team. Its still a team in a rebuild. Plain and simple. Could Yzerman do a better job than Holland? Sure. Could Quenneville do a better job than Blashill? Maybe. But the idea that anything is better than Holland and/or Blashill is nuts. So is the idea that change is improvement. Not always. Put anyone you want as manager and coach and its still a lottery team. Its still years away from a full rebuild and contention. Yzerman doesnt fart rainbows. He cant change that. Y took over the TBL in 2010. Guess how many cups theyve won in the last 9 years? 0. Same as Holland, despite having better teams. Holland is in year 3 of his rebuild and everyone wants him fired. Yzerman had 8 years and won nothing, but everyone wants him instead. Where is the logic in that?

Some folks just don't understand that rebuilding teams are losing teams and rebuilds don't happen overnight. But if we fire Blashill and hire Stevie Y everything will change overnight.

I think Ottawa is the only hope for QC to get a team. Relocating one Canadian based franchise to another Canadian city doesnt really change a whole lot for the league. QC getting an American based franchise thru relocation or getting an expansion team are pretty remote IMO.

At least Lang was RH and could play center. He obviously wasnt as good in Detroit, but I liked having him here.
