Being that Holland was unsuccessful at doing that, I am assuming Goose made it known that he wants to test free agency. SJ was smart enough to know this, which is why they offered less. Nyquist was a rental. Everyone knew this which is why the return was less. Or Hollands an idiot, whichever.

No. Just that there way bigger disappointments. No, it wouldn't. Blame Smith for Smith's mistakes, E for E's, but don't over-exaggerate them. He doesn't suck. He looked just fine when he had a better D corp around him. He was able to play a secondary role more appropriate to his abilities. Now he's forced to do too much. If he is really as bad as people make him out to be, he never would have been signed to that contract in the first place. Unless of course Holland is as dumb as people think he is (he isn't). People wanna complain everytime he makes a mistake despite the fact he's a 4/5 dman playing above his skill set every night. There are guys since E that merit much more disgust that get a pass because they aren't here, they're irrelevant. Cant hate on those guys because they're forgotten. But E is convenient. He's on the team. He's on the ice. He's visible, so let's overreact at every gaffe. Let's put this teams accumulative suckage on one guy. Yep. That's completely fair and rational.

To be fair, I think people have been way to hard on E over the years. He was a 9th round draft pick, last overall (the draft is only 7 rounds now). We shouldn't have had any expectations about him playing in the NHL at all, let being alone a 10 year regular. He has beyond exceeded any reasonable expectations and has accomplished something many other Wings picks havent, playing in the NHL. At least E made it. Literally every other Wings draft pick since Ericcson has been picked higher, and most never made it at all. We've had 1st and 2nd rounders who couldn't match E's accomplishments. Why aren't they whipping boys? Why arent the guys who should have made it and didn't the butt of jokes? Better to cough up pucks in the NHL than never be there at all. Instead we crap on the guy who we should in fact be praising. The one who, against significant odds, acheived his dream.

Is that allowed? Or is hindsight bias banned by the Social Justice Warriors now too? Does this make me a "Timist"? Or a "Future-phobe"?
