Agreed. Trades and buyouts are also a solution. And even if Kronwall returns, there are always injuries within the D corp. Hronek and Cholowski will almost certainly be on the roster next year. What I don't want to see is 20 something players who can be re-signed traded for picks unnecessarily. Guys like Goose and Jensen are the kind of guys we should be supplementing the roster with along with the kids. When guys like Kronner, E, TD, Vanek, Wit, Green, Helm are gone they'll have to be replaced by somebody. There arent enough kids in the system to fill all of those spots when they become available. We could go the free agency rout then and fill those holes (and likely pay more or get lesser players) or we could just keep just enough of the right guys now by re-signing them. I think the idea that rebuilding means trading as many guys as you can to acquire as many picks as you can is oversimplifying the process. The draft isn't a fixall. You cant solve every problem thru it. You have to trade the right guys, sign the right free agents, re-sign the right guys, draft the right guys. That's how you rebuild. I know you understand this, but it seems like there is a fire sale mentality out there that we should trade everyone who was born before Mantha. That's just silly. Obviously, we shouldn't lose any of Nyquist, Howard, or Jensen for nothing. And if they can't be re-signed, then yes, they should be traded. But I would be trying to re-sign Howard to a 2-3 year deal, Nyquist to a 4 year deal, and Jensen to a 3. We're already getting a lottery pick this year and have 2 2nd rounders. It wouldnt be a crushing blow if KH didnt add to that considering any of the picks acquired will most likely never be as good as those 3 anyway. Keep em. Make them our future vets. Bottom line for me is that this isn't the year to swap players for picks. That's next year when Green, E, and Daley are all up and the following year when Helm and Glenny are up.

If you can't re-sign him, then yes, get something for him. But unless it's an overpayment, I don't do it unless I know he's leaving. My point was that Holland should be looking to re-sign him first and foremost, and not go into full blown fire sale mode. Then you re-sign Jensen and deal with the overloaded roster for one year when Green, Daley, and E contracts are up. Letting a relatively young, solid, RH, puck moving dman go during a rebuild when you have 3 pending aged UFA dman next season is poor roster management IMO.

Why? He's not keeping anyone off the roster who should be there. Try to trade him next season or let him play out his contract. I see no benefit in a buyout and taking on a needless cap hit. Why not just re-sign him? The idea that you trade everyone you can during a rebuild to stockpile draft picks is overblown. You trade away guys who are too old to contribute post-rebuild, yes. You trade away pending UFAs that you don't want to re-sign, yes. But Jensen is a solid depth dman who shoots right and is the right age to carry thru a rebuild. Trading him for spare change makes no sense IMO.

Never understood all the dislike for some of the commentators. I will watch whoever is doing it. Just mute them and watch the game as it was intended if you dont like them.

This whole season has been Sisyaphean. Than you should want ur boy Abby on the 1st line. Yet u complain when he is.

Your top pair D play the most. This team currently does not have any legitimate top pair D. Cholowski or Hronek may get there, but not yet. Someone has to take those tough assignments each game. I would rather it be a vet than a kid. You dont put your young D out there to get destroyed every night. It could slow, or even ruin their development. I would rather make Daley, E, Kronwall, DD play in positions above there skill sets. I would rather see them get torched than a Cholowski or a Hronek. Thats why they get more ice time. They have to play those tough minutes, and it should be them over the kids in those situations until the kids are ready. I don't know why people don't get that.

Yzerman has not been as successful yet as Holland already has been. Yzerman learned how to manage from Holland. Dont think it would be that much better. Although it might make some of you feel better, I don't think 19 gets this team back into contention any faster.

Patrik Stefan was a bust. Alex Daigle was a bust. 2nd line winger at 6th pick is not. Big difference between a disappointment and a bust.

I believe that Nyquist is our future. Teach him to play well and let him lead the way. Show him all the beauty he's possessed on ice. Give him a sense of pride to make it easier (to score). Let the Goose's laughter remind us how we used to be.
