I didn't really see any positives from this game, considering that Tampa: a. played the night before b. gave up 5 goals c. had 2, 2 goal deficits This is a game that the Wings should have won. Any team worth anything would have walked away with a win. I don't see this as positive just because they almost won, or because they played hard. Ugly loss. Nothing else to say about it.

Leivo would have certainly taken a team friendly deal since the team knew Zetterberg was retiring. Normally, I think the sauce being thrown at you is overdone Lefty, but in this particular case, I think you have to admit that the Leivo trade really had very little to do with cap implications, if at all.

That's the problem with the "size = strength" narrative in the NHL. Just because a guy is bigger, doesn't mean he has to play a physical style, just like smaller guys don't have to be skill players. A lot of smaller guys are physical, its just how they play. I have no problem with a bigger guy playing a finesse game so long as he plays it well. Train/teach these kids to play to what got them where they are. Stop trying to change them into a different player. Make them better at what they already do, improve their skills in the areas where its lacking. Coaching isn't brain science.

It would be a hockey trade (young D going back). Leafs wouldn't trade a young guy about to sign a 6 or 7 year deal for a pending UFA forward and a soon to be UFA 30 something defenseman.

In which case, I would certainly consider it. But like you said, if he gets traded, he's likely gone forever. And let's be honest, Nyquist isn't exactly old. He's not dead weight. You would be trading away a guy at a prime age who's a 2nd liner with probably 5 more good years left in the hopes that you get at least that back in the draft with a late 1st to 2nd round pick. If he was older, or redundant (like Tatar was) or we had some top 6 F knocking on the door, then I would definitely do it. Otherwise, you need to wow me, cuz I don't need to trade him.

Hopefully he's not looking at "retreads". Not to burst your bubble, but I don't think Howard gets traded at all and probably gets re-signed. Nyquist may get traded, as there will certainly be interest.He's having a great season. But unless a grade A prospect or 1st round pick is coming back, I don't do it. He's the right age to keep around with the kids for the rebuild. Would love to have him re-signed.

No bad scenarios. The team wins and that's good for the kids. The team loses and the draft pick gets better.
