He is a good top 6 F, but not among the top 50. Would live t have him in Detroit. I just wouldn't give him the "star" moniker.

That is a problem, yes. But when u have D playing above their skill set, u force ur Coach to place them into roles that isn't the best use of their skills. It's a combination of not providing the Coach with the players he needs (no top pair D) + inexperienced, below average coaching. Even with a really good Coach, this D Corp can only do so much, and there just isn't enough talent there to be successful.

Pretty much. The market dictates a players value. And the market says Nyquist is a 5 mil player. In regards to re-signing Nyquist, I would be OK with it. this team needs 2 top pair D. The likelihood of getting one via free agency is small. The likelihood that there are 2 top pair D in the system is also remote. At least one will have to be acquired thru trade. Guys like Nyquist, Daley, and Helm won't get you that. It will require a young scoring line forward going back., which leaves a hole. F is an area of strength in the system right now, but I wouldn't mind seeing someone who's still relatively young like Nyquist re-signed to fill out the roster. There are other older F who should be let go instead. I agree. But even young, unproven players have value. It is quite often determined by projection, not accomplishments, as they have not yet acquired them. And guys like Mantha, AA, and Larkin are not unproven. Larkin's contract is more than fair based on his production and market value now. The value of that contract only rises as market prices rise over the next 5 years. Nothing wrong with wanting to get a good value, but when we set what we're willing to pay way too low, we end up with nothing. Gotta be willing to spend to get what you want/need. It seems like ur only interested in re-signing guys if they play for peanuts. You can't fill your roster that way. You prefer to play more kids instead, but only if they play for peanuts too. At what point are the players supposed to get paid?

No. I think that Feds was often times the best player on the ice. He sometimes played like the opposition was a tier below him, so he didn't have to put forth as much effort. He played "down" to his competition. In other words, he didn't go all out every shift. Stevie didn't play that way. He went all out every shift. He had the better career overall. I am not disputing that. But, I wouldn't put him in the conversation with the all time greats. Just a step below. Feds had more natural skill IMO. If he had played like Yzerman every shift, not only do I think that he would have put up better numbers, but would have had the better career of the 2. And I do think that he would be among the all time greats as a result. Unfortunately for him, Feds didn't play the game that way, which is why Yzerman places higher on NHL's greatest players lists. And rightfully so. BTW, I voted for Yzerman.

If Z doesn't return this season does Larkin get the "C" ? I believe that he is the future captain of this team, but is he ready for that role yet? I am not so sure. I think I would give it to Kronwall this season and then hand it over to Larkin when he retires.

Yzerman always played "up" to his level of competition. Feds seemed like he played "down" to his. It was almost like he was bored. Like putting an NHL caliber player in the minors, they get bored with the level of competition. If Feds played up to his skill and ability every shift, he would have been in the conversation with the all time greats. As much as I love Stevie, he was always one notch below.
