He's the new Mikael Samuelsson.
-
But I thought Hakan sucked?

You still have Nyquist and Howard to trade. They'll get more anyway.

How does Stammer's WAG feel about pregnant women?

I don't see it. They just extended McDonagh long term and they're gonna have Hedman long term. Plus Kucherov and Vasilevsky will be expensive. Can't see how they fit everyone under the cap unless they go with only 18 players. -
Yes. Even without Bean they have 7 D. I think the Hamilton trade makes him trade bait. Problem for the Canes is that everyone knows that.

No. And neither would Cheveldayoff (he wouldn't want Helm, or 2 F coming back). I would do AA, 2019 2nd, and 2020 1st for Trouba. You could also include someone like Hicketts or Jensen and then have the Jets add a later pick. Karlsson is just not worth that. Plus the assets going back is going to be really good prospects and picks. Adding Karlsson is great, but he won't complete the rebuild alone. You need to keep those picks and prospects for that. Also, the same reasons I would go after Faulk instead. Roughly the same age, not going to have to commit to 9 years, and won't cost all of the assets to acquire him. I would do some combination of AA, Svech, 2019 2nd, 2020 1st for Faulk. Carolina just acquired Dougie Hamilton (RH) and they just signed de Haan, so they currently have Faulk, Hamilton, Pesce, and Van Riemsdyk down the right side and de Haan, Fleury, and Slavin down the left side. Faulk is more expendable now. Where they need help is up front. Even with Svechnikov, they have a pretty blah F group except for Aho and Teravainen, especially if they trade away Skinner. Carolina seems like perfect trade partners right now. -

We could use him to get Tavares. Maybe accidentally put them on the same flight or something. -

Have you not learned by now that I don't listen to people when they disagree with me? And it's what I would do, not what they will do. -
Different circumstances. Stall brothers were much older and Jordan was brought in years later. The Svecnikov brothers would be basically starting both of their careers together in Carolina. Disagree here. I see Faulk as a top pair guy, and a RH one at that. Yes he is a little old to be a building block, but not so old that he wouldn't still be a solid performer when the team is competitive again. I would be willing to make a trade that involves some combination of AA or Svech, just not our 2019 1st rounder. If the price to acquire involved AA or Svech, I wouldn't consider that a big loss. If Svech is a middle 6 winger, then he could be replaced by Givani Smith. AA doesn't seem to fit in with the team and likely isn't going to be with the team long term. If giving up a replaceable middle 6 winger and a disgruntled F who we would probably lose in free agency anyway gets us Faulk, its worth it IMO. I would consider giving up both players if it meant we didn't have to give up a 1st, assuming the return is Faulk plus a later pick.

Which is why I wouldn't have re-signed Frk and would send Svech down to GR to stat the season. I think he could use the opportunity to have a solid bounce back season down there. No logjam then. That said the roster is what it is. They could send down Svech without waivers, but I have a feeling that Frk might get claimed (Carolina) again. I think if they had known about Zadina not being able to be sent to GR, they may not have brought back Vanek or re-signed Frk. -
Normally yes. But I can see how bringing in the elder Svech bro after the hype over drafting his younger brother might be a good marketing gimmick for them. They could try to sell it like the Sedins in Vancouver. I definitely think that Carolina would give the biggest return and they happen to have something we need.

I was for signing Vanek before Frk was resigned. Signing both will create a logjam at F. -
Svechnikovs. More Svechnikovs. They do seem to have a fetish for men in Red uniforms.

It may actually force Hollands hand to move a F in order to make room for Zadina. There's no reason to send him back down to juniors. -
Which means he's still seen as an asset around the league. That's a positive thing.
-
Holland got exactly what he wanted out of those trades. He kept the streak alive without giving up any significant prospects. The players lost haven't hurt the team at all, and would not have been part of a rebuild anyway. The later trades got Holland draft picks he needs to rebuild, again without losing any "building blocks". So those trades end up being a win for what they accomplished.

Cuzzzzzz they watch them play? There's a difference between being NHL ready and being top pair or even 2nd pair ready. There is no chance that either Hronek or Cholowski are ready to take on that kind of responsibility at the NHL level. Even if they are good enough to make the NHL roster, they would need to be sheltered for a while until they can take on greater responsibility. Green, Daley, DD, and Kronwall are forced to play way above their skill set on a nightly basis. But their development is done. Put a young, inexperienced kid into that position and you risk damaging their development and/or confidence. That would be a bad decision. No one is saying that any of the vet D on this team are top pair guys. But they are the best that has been available in free agency, and you need guys like that to shoulder the burden of playing against other teams best forwards. You can't ask kids to do that, which is what makes guys like Green necessary.
-
That's better.

Mike Green Officially Signed *Mod Warning Page 4*
Neomaxizoomdweebie replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
Since 2000 (the year that Kronwall was drafted) thru 2014 (a total of 15 drafts), I count a total of 34 Defensemen drafted. Of those 34, only 11 (roughly 1/3) ever reached the NHL in some capacity: Dmitri Bykov 2001 8th Rd #258 Derek Meech 2002 7th Rd #229 Jonathan Ericsson 2002 9th Rd #291 Kyle Quincey 2003 4th Rd #132 Jakub Kindl 2005 1st Rd #19 Brendan Smith 2007 1st Rd #27 Nick Jensen 2009 5th Rd #150 Adam Almqvist 2009 7th Rd #210 Xavier Ouellet 2011 2nd Rd #48 Ryan Sproul 2011 2nd Rd #55 Alexei Marchenko 2011 7th Rd #205 Interesting to note is that only Kindl, Smith, Ouellet, and Sproul were drafted above the 3rd Round. All of whom, except Sproul, have spent significant time in the NHL, albeit as lower tier Defensemen. The other 8 were drafted in the 4th Round or later. That seems like pretty good scouting/drafting there. League average for 1st Rounders becoming NHLers is less than 50%. Holland was 2 for 2. League average for 2nd Rounders is around 25%. Holland was, let's say, 1 for 2 or 50%, well above average here. In regards to the other 23, it's easy to criticize the scouting/drafting for those, but keep in mind that out of those 23, only 2 (Max Nicastro, 2008 3rd Rd and Gleason Fournier, 2009 3rd Rd) were picked above the 4th Rd. So in reality, of the 6 Defenseman over that time drafted in Rounds 1-3, 3 of them managed to eke out long term NHL careers, Sproul at least made to the NHL, and only 2 never made it at all. Let's call it 3 1/2 out of 6 or 58%. Of the other 28 Defensemen drafted during that time, all were 4th Rd picks or later. Seven of them made it to the NHL, with varying degrees of success. Let's call it 5 out of 28 or 18%. Considering that the NHL average for 3rd Rounders or later is around 12%, I would say the team has done a good job of drafting D in later rounds. So basically, if there is any criticism to be had in regards to drafting D, this team's poor record has a lot more to do with WHERE the D is being drafted and not necessarily WHO is being drafted. The Wings have only drafted 4, that's right, 4 Defensemen in the first 2 rounds in the 15 years from 2000-2014. That's the problem. Waiting until later rounds over a LONG period of time to draft D is really what hurt this team. So poor drafting yes, just not in the way we might think. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Detroit_Red_Wings_draft_picks
