One of my favorite hockey crests of all time. It's just not the same without the teal and purple tho.

Is anything safe anymore? Our beloved tradition *Mod warning post #94*

Sports Illustrated writer S.L. Price paid $8.26 for a boiled octopus from Superior Fish Co. in spring 2008, the last time the Red Wings won a Stanley Cup. He stuffed it into his pants to sneak it through security into Joe Louis Arena, I get accused of this every time I go to a Wings game. Stupid PETA....

Don't worry. If Frk gets 0 NHL offers, then you will turn out to be right. Even if he plays more than Pulks in the NHL, they are both still fringe NHL players with a big RH shot. You can have your "I told you so" moment then. BTW, I never disagreed with your assessment about their ability and lack of skill set. I do believe that Frk is slightly better than Pulkinnen tho and will probably end up hanging around longer than Pulks did. Just my 2 cents. But yeah, they really aren't that good. Would rather have Jurco over Frk to be honest, so fight me.

I think so. Dahlin and Svech will go 1 & 2, no drama there. If the Habs take Kokaniemi and AZ goes Tkachuk, it will really be interesting to see what Ottawa does. I mean if Zadina is still there at 5 do you throw the Sens a pick to swap places to get him? Could be interesting.

The only way I see a D making his way onto the roster to start the season is if he looks like he's ready to become a top 4 D at the NHL level. Hicketts doesn't project that high, so until some bottom pair D are moved out, he will be sent down to start the season. TBH, I wouldn't mind that. I think bringing him up later in the season (or as a regular call up) might actually be better for him so that he gets a significant taste of the NHL without him being broken down jumping right into a full NHL schedule. Would I like to see Hicketts on the big roster? Yes. Do I prefer him over Ouellet for example? Absolutely. But I wouldn't be too upset if he started the season in GR because I trust the Coaching Staff to make the decisions that are best for the individual players and the team. As for F, the same applies here. Unless a kid is out of waiver exemptions or he looks like he's a top 6 F, he will probably start the season in GR and be brought up later in the season. Svech to me seems like a middle 6 winger at this point. Way too many guys like that to leap ahead of to justify a permanent roster spot to start the season (plus he's still waiver exempt), so he likely starts in GR. Rass on the other hand looks like he could be a future 2C. Plus, he can't be sent down to GR, so I think this actually makes it more likely that he starts the season with the Wings rather than be sent back down to juniors. Would I like to see Svech and Rass on the roster to start the season? Yes. But again, I won't be disappointed if they aren't. Blashill and Holland will do what is best for the team. If that isn't Svech and Rass, then so be it. I will still sleep just fine.

Depends on who ur moving out. Replacing E or Wit with those guys wouldn't effect the height or weight average much. Those players would lower the average age considerably tho, which would be appropriate for a rebuilding team. In regards to average size, TB actually has the smallest overall team in the NHL. Also, subtract Chara from Boston's roster and they become the smallest team. So you are correct in that size isn't everything. Certainly there are situations where it is an advantage, but obviously, skill/talent always trumps size. Uh oh. Did I just make this thread political?

The more time Frk spends in the NHL, the more he turns out better than Pulks. He may indeed turn out to spend most of his career in the minors or overseas, but he would still be more of an NHLer than Pulks.

This reminds of an article I stumbled across recently: https://theathletic.com/210035/2018/01/12/sizing-up-the-nhl-2017-18-nhl-teams-by-age-height-and-weight/ NHL average age this season (as of today): 27.1 Wings still have the oldest roster at 28.9 On the other side of things, Detroit and Ottawa are ancient by today’s league standards. Old and bad unfortunately. The Red Wings have eight players who are 30-plus and no one who’s really young beyond 21-year-old Dylan Larkin. There used to be a time that Detroit was always the oldest team and always a Cup favourite. NHL average height this season: 73.1 inches (6-foot-1.1) Wings are in the bottom third at 72.8" (6-foot-0.8-inches) NHL average weight this season: 200.7 lbs Wings are fifth from the bottom at 197.3 lbs NHL average draft position: 64th (in regards to roster players) Wings are 3rd from the bottom at 87.9 The full table of results is here for anyone who is curious:

My concern would be if he can maintain that style of play over a full season at the NHL level with bigger, faster, and stronger opponents, At some point, tenacity and hard work can no longer overcome lack of skill.

Any concerns about what was said in the video about Bouchards final season in the OHL being inflated because his team basically set him up to succeed, more ice time, favorable situations, etc..? BTW, can someone give me another "like"? I don't like sitting at 666.

I literally have no valid reason for believing this. I agree with you on Bouchard. The only other guy I would take if he's still there (besides Dahlin and Svech of course) is Zadina. We just need D too badly to pass up any of the high end Dmen there. And I wouldn't trade up to 3 either. The quality of player ur getting at 6 is virtually the same as what ur getting at 3. I mean unless some ridiculous scenario happens where Dahlin or Svech is there, then yes I trade up, but otherwise, keep 6, and trade 30 and 36 to move up into the 20's an draft a C. So basically, expect Holland to do none of this.
  18. LOL. I can't believe I didn't see that. Anyway maybe some punctuation might be in order here. Erik Karlsson's Wife Harassed While Pregnant, by Another Player's Fiancee not Erik Karlsson's Wife Harassed, While Pregnant by Another Player's Fiancee I have to be honest. I would find the second one much more interesting. Erik

I forgot to mention that like E, Dahlin was originally a Centerman. Something I didn't know previously. I hope it is Bouchard, but I have a feeling it was Kotkaniemi. What i hope happens is they draft Bouchard at 6, and trade up a few spots from 30 and draft one of a few good centers who falls into the 20's. If they have to give up 36, that would be okay with me.

If a scenario like this happens, then you find a way to make it work, whatever it takes. But if it's a lukewarm prospect like Hicketts for example, I would rather utilize the waiver exemption and hold on to my older guys until I can trade them for max value. Then fill those holes with the kids. It would be nice to have some openings already on the roster, but we are dealing with a playoff streak hangover and it'll take a while to sort it all out.

So what I learned from this: Draper will be the next GM. Really impressed with him. Draper doesn't know how many picks he has in the top 100. He kept saying 7, but he actually has 8 (which is AWESOME, BTW) There was one player the Wings interviewed that Draper REALLY likes, but he won't say who it was. The drafting of Rasmussen was as much about the interview process than anything else. They really liked his poise and answers. This will be the year to watch the draft (if you don't already), lot of fluidity, lots of stuff will happen with the 1st 5 or 10 picks. Should make for good TV. Cleary is BAAA-AAACCCKKK as Player Development Assistant. "Overripe" is a thing of the past. I am really excited about our draft this year!

I mean yeah, that's certainly an option, but considering Ouellet is still around, it may be easier said than done. Why give up an asset for him when you know you can just claim him on waivers for nothing? Which is exactly what I think happens to Ouellet BTW. As for Jensen, I do think he is much more tradeable. Any team looking for a RH depth defenseman might be interested, but he's more likely to be traded at the TDL I think, which doesn't help getting any kids on the roster.

I would agree with you if a vet could be sent down without having to be put on waivers and his salary not count against the cap. Or be bought out without penalty. But the current structure of the CBA makes the "tie going to the vet" more of a necessity as opposed to a choice. While I would absolutely love for our D to have Hronek and Hicketts on it over Jensen and Ouellet, the waiver rules make it much less doable.

I think Bokk will be someone's "reach" pick. Doubt he lasts until 30. Speaking of 30, I wonder who Vegas' 1st round pick will be? This guy:
  25. I can't prove it, but I think ur a Sharks spy. Every time a player is mentioned, you bring them up. Admit it, you take what you learn here and take it back to your Bay Area Cronies in order to help them pull a Caps and finally win a cup. I am on to you.
