1. Long term contract. Team had too much money invested for too long. I am sure the doctor(s) was/were being pressured by the team to clear him to play. 2. Franzen really was a "Mule". He wanted to play, to earn his contract. He could have just stayed home and collected a paycheck, but he was never that kind of player, even tho ignorance says otherwise. I am sure that he also pushed them to clear him to play. 3. Leftwinger wanted Hossa. They probably just wanted Franzen to play so that they wouldn't have to hear about it for the next 10 years+. 4.The understanding of CTE has come along way since then. I don't think he would be playing if that happened today.

All valid points. Like I said, choosing Murray over Fleury would be the logical choice. I am not sold on him yet for the reasons I mentioned: 1. Murray didn't really win it all as the "guy". He had help, either as a tandem with MAF or by "committee". How does he fare when its all on him? If this season is any indication, not good. We'll see. 2. Too many injuries at such a young age. I don't care if he IS the next Roy. It's a red flag and exactly the reason why I would keep a 1B type goalie around with him (someone like MAF). 3. Guys with that much success that early in their careers scares me, regardless of position. Too many guys fizzle out after "peaking" too soon. Not saying that happens to Murray, but a little insurance wouldn't hurt. -
1. No. 2. Still no. 3. H-E-double hockey sticks NO!

Good, cuz "guy", "man", and "dude" is labeling and not "gender neutral". Can't have that here. -
No. Franzen was a lazy floater. CTE had nothing to do with it. He never would have been better than Hossa even with a healthy brain. He is and always will be a Bumb. Yzerman clearly didn't know him at all when he gave the "Mule" nickname. He clearly didn't know what hard work was.

Yes. He showed them his college ID. That said, I wouldn't be disappointed with Hughes at #6. It's just that I would literally prefer every other player mentioned over him. Nor should they be. I remember when the complaints were about them trying to stay competitive when they should be rebuilding. Now that they are rebuilding we shouldn't be complaining about them not being competitive. You're right. His Wikipedia page doesn't say anything about him married, so I guess he is available. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Kessel I am not into dudes, so I am not particularly excited about this tho. -

One of these is wrong. Doesn't it bother anyone that "capitals" is in all lower case letters? -

When he says "same thing every year" I think he means Holland does the opposite of what Lefty would do. That's why it bothers him. -

It's like offense/offence, gray/grey, labor/labour, etc. There are multiple spellings for certain words depending on where ur from. I prefer Capitols. Spelling it Capitals is fingernails on a chalkboard for me...or should I say chaulkboard. -

A team with a Knight using the softest metal on earth for armor or a team who spells Capitals with 2 a's. (It's Capitols...Capitols!) IDK. For sake of redundancy I won't say who I am choosing and why. (See my above post for the answer) -

Right or wrong, sometimes attitude and politics play into (pun intended) who plays and who doesn't; not stats. If Toledo or GR thought Machovsky was better, they would have played him more. They play to win the games. If they believed that Machovsky gave them a better chance, he would have been the starter in Toledo or at least the backup in GR, regardless of the numbers. It's very possible that he had a bad attitude, entitlement issues, poor work ethic, etc that led to his limited use. I don't know this of course, i am just speculating. Like i said, I am no expert on goalies by any means. But I do think that no team is going to play an average, veteran minor league goaltender over a young, raw goaltender with better potential without good reason. What those reasons are, I don't know. But I am betting there was more to it than stats. -
Wow he really does look like a Don. I mean, could you say "NO" to this guy?

I don't get it. Actually we need DD's. The Wings have: Danny DeKeyser The Kings have: Drew Doughty The Capitals have: Mia Khalifa Maybe we can trade our DD for LA's DD or DC's DD's. Get it done. -

Machovsky couldn't even beat out a career ECHL goaltender to earn the starting job in Toledo. If he was better than any of Coreau, McCollum, or even Nagle, his path would have been different. They were better. They played nicey nice with management and coaches. That's why they were used more. Simple as that. -

Yeah. A roster made up of college kids who ended up mostly being fringe NHLers or less beating a roster full of future Hall of Famers and some of the best hockey players of all time. A team that was arguably the best international hockey team ever who beat a squad made up of NHL All-Stars (20 of whom are in the HOF) in 2 out of 3 games the year before. Yep. No big story here. Way overblown. Not deserving of a movie cause it wasn't true hockey players (Canadians). Not a "Miracle" at all. Tell me more Colin Kaepernick. https://www.nhl.com/news/look-at-miracle-on-ice-players-after-lake-placid/c-286973684 https://abcnews.go.com/Sports/1980-soviet-union-squad-historys-greatest-international-hockey/story?id=42117760 -

Are you saying these were bad signings or bad contracts? I actually think they were both good "signings", I just didn't like the contracts themselves- mostly the lengths. Admittedly I only saw them both play together in training camp, but I actually thought Nagle was the better goalie of the 2 from what i saw. I am no goaltending scout tho. -

#wahlstromisthefuture Signing Larkin and Mantha long term for 10-11 mil a year would be a great deal. You know what's not? Kane and Toews for $ 21,000,000 a year.
