7/11 - "Backup GDT in case...ya know" - Wings vs Caps

Not her first time tho. -
Hometown discount. Players will usually take less money to stay close to home. It's also why guys choose to retire when they can easily get a job in Europe.
-
The tire pumper drafted by the tire kicker brought to you by the Belle Tire Co.

Right now, it seems his defense is a better asset than his offense. That says "middle six" winger to me. He needs to put up more offense to solidify himself as a top 6 winger IMO. I have been waiting for that jump for 2 years and haven't seen it yet. I see occasional flashes. I've seen some good passing and power plays from him. But I think we can all agree that he is never gonna be the offensive minded goal scorer he was billed to be.
-
Nope. The argument was about whether or not Zadina was a "bust" or not. And how good he would be. I think Hudler was a bad comparison based on size, playing style, and off the ice antics. I think Tatar is probably a more accurate ceiling, while Jarnkrok is a more accurate floor. Just my opinion. And I don't think he's a "bust" based on that. Also, looks like you got "hacked" again.

Dekeyser will be 32 when his contract is up. Certainly not over the hill by hockey standards, but enough that combining that with his declining skills, might prevent a team from signing him. There are just so many free agents anymore that he may not get much interest. I can see him being one of those guys who doesn't officially retire over the summer, but just fades away into everyday life. His salary is really not that bad at 2.5, but I just don't see him getting traded even with salary retention. Michigan connection. Alternate Captain. He is a Michigan native, played all of his college years, and pro career, in Michigan. I really don't think he takes a short term, low salary deal unless it's Detroit. And I don't think SY is going to offer that. It would create a huge logjam in the defense pool.

I think you're being overly generous. Zadina looks to me like a young middle 6 forward with the chance of becoming a solid 2W. I think 1W is now above his ceiling.
-
For what? He's not going anywhere. He'll retire a Wing by next September. This. It's not like he was playing one game and then sitting the next. When he was in, he was getting multiple games in a row to prove he belonged. He didn't. Would I have given him more time? Yes. Did Blash "ruin" Svech? No.

Wrong Bob. -
Substitute KRSmith for 9 and Jurco for Svech and this seems very familiar.
-
No one special. A top pair UFA Dman will be too expensive and take up too much cap space for the next several years. Better to do another Leddy type deal and start filling in the D corp thru the prospect pool.

Its all Blashill's fault.
-
Nope. Blashill was named head coach on June 9, 2015. Abby signed his 7 year albatross of a contract on November 12, 2015. But I will give you that one because it was only a month into Blashill's first season as HC. Also, Abby continued to put up similar numbers for the first 3 years he played under Blashill as he did under Babcock. So there's that. DeKeyser signed his 6 year, $30 million contract after playing a full season under Blashill. So he definitely did not ruin DD. If it makes you feel any better, I agree that Svech should have gotten more of a chance. I wanted SY to bring him back this season figuring he would be a regular with so many UFAs leaving. Yzerman thought otherwise. What I can tell you is that SY must not have seen in Svech what you seem to (and I trust his assessment over yours, no offense). And if Blashill was literally the prospect killer you seem to think he is, then why in the world would SY re-sign him to coach a rebuilding team? You think Steve is really that dumb?

You sure you aren't worried that Jeff ruins Raymond and Seider like every other prospect?

So basically like any other job. Perform up to expectations or you're fired. "Donny, Gary, Bob was mean to me! Boo hoo!" Buncha babies. -
Shush, you.
-
Yzerman's BPA seems to drastically differ from the consensus tho based on his Seider, Cossa, and Edvinsson picks. Even Raymond wasn't considered the 4th best prospect on a lot of boards. I'm not so sure he would have considered Zadina as BPA at 6. He probably would have gone with Bouchard or Wahlstrom there.
-
This is why I think he is considered more of a bust. He is being judged on pre-draft hype vs his actual draft position. If he was a "reach" at 6OA as opposed to falling to 6OA, the "bust" label wouldn't be there. Zadina was over ranked on a lot of draft boards, but wasnt as highly thought of by at least 3 teams. The only fair way to evaluate him is by where he was actually drafted.
-
I thought they had to back to backs with Vegas?
-
I did something like that awhile back. Zadina is well above average in terms of how 6OA picks have turned out. Sam Gagner was also a 6OA and I don't recall anyone referring to him as a "bust" even tho he is a lesser player than Zadina. That's the problem with your word play. If you do a redraft for the last 20 years, you will probably find that more players than not are "busts" by that metric.
-
Is he a bust too?
-
I have said Zadina is not a "bust". He just isn't the elite sniper he was billed as pre-draft. If Zadina and Berggren are the new Tatar and Nyquist, I am ok with that. Middle 6 F is disappointing but he is not anywhere near "bust" territory.
-
You said Blashill is to blame for not getting enough out of the prospects he's been given. Others have mentioned other factors such as injuries, depth, lack of talent, and players' attitudes. You then imply this to anyone who doesnt agree with you: That is an either/or fallacy. Blashill is the only one to blame or Blashill is "washed of any responsibility". You have stuck to the former and assigned the latter to anyone who disagrees with you.
