Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread
Neomaxizoomdweebie replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
He's tearing up the U18 Worlds right now. Looks like I may have been wrong about the kid. Another kid who's looking really good in the tournament. Can't be drafted until 20/20, but if we're still a lottery team then, this is who I want: -

The good news is: If the Bruins knock off the Leafs, there's only one team left that I absolutely do not want to see win (Pitt). As long as its one of the other 7, I'm cool with that. -

Should The Wings Re-Sign Mike Green?
Neomaxizoomdweebie replied to ChristopherReevesLegs's topic in General
Green is coming off of a season ending neck injury. He and his wife just had a baby and he wants to say in Detroit. Holland has all of the leverage here. If he can't sign Green to a 2 x 5 deal or better w/o a full NTC in the 2nd year, that would be a serious failure on his part. -

So all the higher seeds advance basically. Boring. -
Fletcher really had nothing to do with that. Suter is whipped and Parise is a Mommas's boy. That's why they signed there. All Fletcher had to do was hand them a pen.

Exactly this. I don't get it at all. My grandparents love watching the British comedies on PBS. It makes me not want to go over there for dinner. -

All true, but I don't think that anyone in here who believes the 02 team is better is "blinded" by the names (casual fans maybe). It seems like most of us here are more knowledgeable than the average fan, and some of us still think 02 is better. As i said, some guys in 02 were "past their prime", but many of the guys on the 08 roster were just "past their prime" versions of the 02 team. -
Should any of #91, #13, #40, #30 be retired? Poll/Discussion

Holland: Y'know we'd really like to put #91 in the rafters. How would you like to have your name on the banner instead of Fedorov? Tavares: Where do I sign, Ken? -

I disagree with this. There were "past their prime" guys in 02 for sure (Yzerman, Hull, Larionov, Robitaille, Olausson, Duchesne) but there were also "past their prime" guys in 08 as well (Lidstrom, Rafalski, Lilja, Holmstrom, Drake). Plus the entire "Grind Line" of McCarty, Maltby, and Draper were in their prime in 02, but well past their primes in 08. The 02 team also had Fedorov and Shanahan in their primes vs. Datsyuk and Zetterberg in 08. Both teams had "past their prime" Chelios and Hasek, obviously both were better in 02. But the biggest advantage for me is that the 02 team had a much younger Lidstrom. The "past their prime argument" doesn't work for me considering there were 8 guys who played for both teams and were 6 years older in 08. -
Should The Wings Re-Sign Mike Green?
Neomaxizoomdweebie replied to ChristopherReevesLegs's topic in General
1. It was a joke. 2. We don't know yet the severity of Green's injury. The prognosis of a C-spine injury depends on multiple factors. For example, is there any spinal cord injury and what grade is it? Is there motor or sensory impairment? Which individual vertebrae are involved? Is there now a musculoskeletal disorder? Will there be range of motion limitations? I haven't seen anything specific yet. If you have, please feel free to share it, I would be interested in reading it. Until then, I am staying positive about his outcome. and hoping for the best. -

I'd rather see the Toronto Raptors win the NBA Championship. I'm not shocked at all. I would say that the Bruins playoff experience gives them an advantage, but according to some, saying that would be lazy. -

Should The Wings Re-Sign Mike Green?

No. What has turned this franchise into what it is is having sustained long term success in a league designed to prevent it. Implementation of a salary cap without even a luxury tax preventing signing of meaningful free agents, and then overpaying pending ones. Going long periods of time without high end draft picks, and missing on the lower ones that were awarded based on the way the draft is set up (punishing success, rewarding failure). No longer having the best scouting staff and pulling gems out of later rounds. Being incredibly unlucky in drafting defenseman and getting duds (Kindl, Smith), as well as fluke injuries/medical issues regarding defensemen who were actually very good (Vladi, Fischer, Kronwall). This team would not be any better today bringing up any of its past prospects sooner than it did. Blaming this team's current state of affairs on how it has handled its prospects in the past is quite irrelevant IMO. It's like that person you work with who blames all of their problems on whoever the President is. In reality, this has very little to do with their personal issues, but they don't like him, so he's a convenient scapegoat. In summary, this team's issues are multifaceted (as mentioned above). It's handling of prospects has never been one of them that i can recall. But it's easy to blame our downfall on that perception for those that didn't agree with it. It's just human nature I suppose. -

So far, 4 series are in the bag. VGK beat LAK 4-0. (Got this one wrong) SJS beat ANA 4-0. (Had SJS in 7) WIN beat MIN 4-1. (Got this one exactly right) TBL beat NJD 4-1. (Off by 1 game) That puts me at 3-1 so far for the playoffs. NASH leads COL 3-2. (Off by 1 game if NASH closes it out) BOS leads TOR 3-1. (Still think it goes 6) WDC leads CBJ 3-2. (Still think it goes 7) PIT leads PHI 3-2. (Off by 1 game if PIT wins) -

Always loved the Mighty Ducks jersey/logo. Yeah the first Moose jersey is a 90s color scheme for sure. I always liked the logo on it, you could always update the Jersey. I like the angry Moose on the newer logo, but its only the head, so its too much like Halifax's for me. Plus there's no lettering in the logo at all. I agree with whole heartedly on the Whalers. I liked the fleur de Lis bordering on the Nordiques jerseys and the color scheme, I just always hated the igloo-stick logo. It looked like an 8 year old came up with it on an etch-a-sketch. -

I'll probably get thrashed for saying this, but I never liked those jerseys or that logo. I also never liked the Nordiques jerseys either, although a lot of people seem to. I like the new Jets jerseys/logo better, but I was disappointed they didn't go with this name/logo/jersey when they relocated from Atlanta: or the new one: -

Whaaaa? Much like British comedy, I just didn't get it. So in other words, we're getting a really good player no matter how badly we get screwed on lottery day. Keep the bus from falling below 55 MPH. -

Yes. He had Overpaidus forwut Youbringus, more commonly know as Capitis. According to webmd: t's a rare but debilitating disease that affects mostly men in their mid to late 30's. It is most common, but not limited to the Great Lakes region of the US. Other contributing factors include: Eastern European ancestry, working in cold environments, and lifting heavy metallic objects. -

You're absolutely right. I am totally lazy for not picking a first year expansion team, coached by a guy with a 49% career win percentage, and a GM who is already on his 4th NHL franchise to beat a team in the playoffs who has won two Cups since 2012 (one of which was as an 8th seed). How indolent of me to not foresee Vegas not only making the playoffs in their inaugural season, but win their division, and complete a 4 game sweep in their first ever playoff series. Yep, cuz this sort of thing happens all the time. How slothful I am for picking a Kings team with 11 players on its roster who have won Stanley Cup Championships in LA over a team made up of throw away players from other teams with minimal playoff experience aside from Fleury, Neal, and Perron. Yep, that was just pure laziness on my part to actually put thought into my picking of the Kings. Cuz we all know that first year playoff teams always win Stanley Cups, and playoff experience is totally irrelevent. Why would I half-ass my playoff pick like that and choose the statistical upset, cuz we all know that going chalk is soooooo much harder. I am so lazy. I should be ashamed of myself.
